May 24, 2012 – ITALY – A strong and unusually shallow earthquake struck northern Italy over the weekend, fracturing pavement, sending torrents of brick and rubble raining down from buildings, and killing seven people. The powerful shaking was a first for the region in centuries — and fairly surprising to seismologists. Data indicate the magnitude 6.0 quake, which struck just after 4 a.m. local time on Sunday (May 20), just north of Bologna, was a thrust quake — the type of earthquake caused when two tectonic plates smash together — yet it occurred at a depth of just 3 miles (5 kilometers). “It is kind of surprising that it’s that shallow, because it’s pretty far from the plate boundary,” said Paul Caruso, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey. “Normally we expect things to get deeper as they move northward,” he told OurAmazingPlanet. The quake hit about 470 miles (750 km) north of the plate boundary — the place where the two colliding plates meet — which runs along the sole of Italy’s “boot.” It is here that the African plate is plowing slowly northward, crashing into the Eurasian plate. Caruso explained that the shallower a quake, the more damage it can cause. “If a quake is 500 kilometers deep, and you’re right on top of it, you’re going to feel it a lot less strongly than if it’s 5 kilometers deep,” he said. “As the seismic energy moves through the ground some of it is dissipated.” Several aftershocks have rocked the affected region, and it’s not clear if this recent earthquake is a harbinger of things to come. “We don’t know if this is going to trigger more activity in this area or not,” Caruso said. “We would expect to see aftershocks in the area for a while.” There have already been at least 100 aftershocks. The shaking could continue for weeks or months, he said. –
Physics.org said: “The Sumatra earthquake’s magnitude surprised scientists because it was the most powerful strike-slip earthquake ever recorded. The quake was also unusual in that the rupture was in the middle of an oceanic plate rather than at the boundary between two plates.” Now, we’re seeing these uncharacteristic large magnitude earthquakes erupt far from tectonic plate boundaries like Sumatra and Italy with rather shallow signatures- this is generally not supposed to happen. Earthquakes are doing things which haven’t been generally characteristic of earthquakes in the past. This is further indication that the planet’s seismic dynamism is shifting and change is accelerating. -The Extinction Protocol

| My heart was quivering the other day for the one I love most in this world is traveling for the next two weeks and I have a sinking feeling that something catastrophic is going to happen in the world and that we will be apart when that happens. When I saycatastrophic I am not playing around with that word. |

| My wife of course thinks I am being dramatic because I have been sitting in anticipation of these types of events for the past two years. But what has been happening this past week is pushing the line into the red zone and we literally have volcanoes all over the world blowing their stacks. Two days later I am calm but wish I could say the same for our planet. |
| We now have the 49th volcano erupting this year and the year is young. Ecuador’s Sangay volcano unleashed a 2 km ash cloud the other day and if you don’t believe in global cooling it’s a good time to start because of the enormous amounts of ash and gaseous chemicals being spewed into the atmosphere. Since starting this essay, as you will see below, we have had another eruption making a grand total of 50 for the year. Perhaps before this is published it will be 51. |

After a long quiescent period, the volcano sprang suddenly to life in 1951, producing a powerful explosive eruption during which devastating pyroclastic flows and surges swept all sides of the volcano, killing nearly 3,000 people. |

| Dangerous Places to Live |

| Popocatépetl, the nearly 18,000-foot volcano that hovers like a sentinel on the southeastern fringe of Mexico’s capital, awakened again Sunday, April 15, 2012, punctuating an especially shaky seismic season. Popo, as the mountain is widely called, spewed at least seven exhalations overnight Saturday and through the day Sunday, sending vapor, smoke and gas billowing into the clear sky. The most serious occurred just after 9 a.m. Sunday, sending a vapor cloud a mile into the air. Mexico’s National Disaster Prevention Center issued a precautionary warning to residents advising them to stay alert for a worsening situation and to stay at least seven miles away from the volcano’s crater. Residents are beginning to evacuate. |
| Though more than 40 miles from downtown Mexico City, Popo dominates the Valley of Mexico and the surrounding highlands, home to some 25 million people, most of whom would be affected by a full eruption. |
| Mexico City’s teeming working class suburbs now live at the base of the mountain. The city of Puebla, home to one million people, stands a few dozen miles from the volcano’s eastern slopes. |

| USGS scientists have been investigating the recent increase in the number of earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 and greater in the midcontinent of the United States. These earthquakes are fairly small—large enough to have been felt by many people, yet small enough to have rarely caused damage. Scientists used ultra-sensitive quake-sensing technology to track mid-western tremors and watched the number of quakes jump from a steady background of 20 tremors a year to 50 in 2009, 87 in 2010 and a whopping 134 last year. Clearly, something strange was going on. |
| Gas drilling is on the rise around the country, especially hydraulic fracturing. Hydrofracking uses billions of gallons of water a year to crack deep rock and release natural gas. Some have suspected that fracking was causing quakes, but evidence in several parts of the country points to wastewater wells where companies dump used frack water.[2] |

| The USGS believes there is little correlation between earthquakes and volcanic activity[3] although there is evidence that some volcanoes are triggered by earthquakes and vice versa, that some earthquakes are triggered by volcanoes. |
| Others show evidence that earthquakes, volcanism, El Nino, and global warming phenomenon are caused by the changing location of the poles as the Earth wobbles back and forth slightly in what is called Chandler’s Wobble. The name for these correlations is called vortex tectonics.[4] |
| And some like Bill McGuire of the University College London’s Hazard Research Center believe that climate change itself is causing this increased activity on earth due the earth’s crust rebounding from the last ice age and the resulting melting of glaciers, changes in weight on the earth’s crust and rising sea levels.[5] |
| Conclusion |
| We can come up with any theory we want but concepts and theories pale against violent volcanic eruption and major quakes. Of course this is all very bad news for the Japanese and just about everyone else because building No. 4 at Fukushima is hanging by a thread with all its spent nuclear fuel rods suspended in space three stories up. |

Should we worry about Earth’s Magnetic Poles reversing?
You’ve gotta love Joey’s sensible matter-of-fact approach to surviving a pole shift in a bunker!! He also brings up some good arguments with the authors position, whose message appears to be “Nothing to see here, lets move along folks”. There’s no mention of entire continents dissappearing in the oceans which may have been the result of past pole reversals, basically we don’t know exactly what’s going on. Scientist’s have a good idea, but from the perspective of a long history of academia suppressing facts that make certain members of society uncomfortable because they don’t fit current “memes” set forth by Science or Religion, there are still many question left unanswered about Earths geological history.

Are earthquakes destabilizing tectonic plates across the globe?
Well duh!! If the seismic pace continues to increase unabated through December 21st, what happens when Earth hits the massive energy wave at the galactic equator? Hopi legend says the planet will go in to what they call the Great Shaking where the entire world experiences the equivalent of 9-10 magnitude, basically enough to shake us back to the stone age. IMHO spiritual preparation and the elimination of fear from our minds, is the most important element to whatever is heading our way as 2012 unfolds. By eliminating fear you also allow for your ability to Co-Create and manifest that which you need for your survival.

Deepening seismic tension agitating tectonic plates across the globe

July 6, 2011- MOZAMBIQUE – The tension is nigh universal. In South America, double earthquakes have hit Colombia- a 4.7 and a 4.1. A 4.4 similarly has rattled Nicaragua. The Caribbean is unsettled with tremors rattling through most of the islands. Double quakes have struck Fiji (5.0 and a 4.9 magnitude) and Japan was rattled by a 5.7 and Taiwan was hit with a 4.8. If we look at the recent spasm of moderate earthquakes happening inside the Ring of Fire, we can see that tension is not unwinding but is instead diffusing along faults, oceanic boundaries, and volcanic arcs and transform fault zones in the Pacific perhaps setting the stage for the strike of a big earthquake event over the next few days. On Tuesday, a 4.6 near the southeast coast of Australia was followed by a 6.5 (5.3 USGS) near Lake Taupo on the North Island of New Zealand. A 5.5 followed off the eastern coast of Honshu Japan, followed by 4.5 in Oruro Bolivia and then a 5.3 earthquake in Fiji and the second earthquake in 24 hours along the Nias Region of Indonesia- the second Indonesian earthquake struck much closer to the surface than the first; 15.9 km. On Monday we saw a similar pattern with successive moderate earthquakes striking Tonga, Alaska and Indonesia. Perhaps, even most disconcerting- we see seismic tension now surfacing with the 4.7 magnitude earthquake in Mozambique at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley which is an indication, along with the eruption of the Nabro volcano in Eritrea, the pressures facilitating the tearing of the African continent are increasing. -The Extinction Protocol

But this British scuba diver is actually between two tectonic plates.
Alex Mustard, 36, dived 80ft into the crevice between the North American and Eurasian plates near Iceland to capture these spectacular photos.

Mr Mustard snapped away as he and his dive partners swam through fresh water canyons Silfra, Nes and Nikulasargja, which are up to 200ft deep.
He also took photos of the Arnarnes Strytur chimney, which forms a cloudy plume as 80C water is ejected from Earth’s crust and hits the cool 4C seawater.

Mr Mustard, from Southampton, said: ‘The photos show diving in the unique underwater world of Iceland which, like on land, is formed by the volcanic landscape of the country.
‘Many people visit Iceland to see these features on land but they also continue underwater.
‘For a scuba diver these are spectacular places to visit – being able to fly through the clear water and explore the fault lines in three dimensions.
‘I have dived all around the world and this is almost certainly the clearest water I have ever been in.
‘Many people have an experience of vertigo from the sheer walls and clear water.’
