‘Uranium-eating’ bacteria to clean-up radioactive sites

SYDNEY: Some bacteria have the capacity to stabilise uranium contaminated sites, and if they are used they could reduce the chances of these sites contaminating major waterways and ecosystems, U.S. scientists have said.

Of the millions of tonnes of bacteria living within the Earth’s subsurface, some are able to transform the oxidative state of uranium, which defines how the element will interact with oxygen to form various molecules. They change it from the radioactive, toxic and water soluble uranium (VI) to the less soluble, stationary and therefore less harmful uranium (IV) as part of their normal growth.

While this process is relatively well known and has been demonstrated numerous times, until now most studies have occurred in the lab without the added difficulties associated with working in the field. Namely, that uranium isn’t the only element that the bacteria affect.

Bacteria causes changes in other elements too

“Bacteria cause chemical changes in several elements, including iron and sulphur,” said Ken Kemner, a physicist with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory, which is conducting the research.

“Those changes in the iron and/or sulphur geochemistry could cause the uranium to change between soluble and insoluble forms,” he said.

The Argonne scientists are studying bacteria at three uranium-contaminated research sites across the United States, one in Colorado and two others at the Pacific Northwest and Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Washington State and Tennessee, respectively. All are relics of the nuclear proliferation of the Cold War era, with the potential for contaminating major waterways.

Not yet ready to unleash on environment

Using the US Department of Energy’s Advanced Photon Source (APS) electron accelerator and storage system – which provides the brightest x-ray beams in the Western Hemisphere – the scientists have been able to study the transformation of uranium at the atomic level.

“The [researchers have] successfully demonstrated in some pilot studies that this really works,” Kemner said. “But we don’t understand it enough that we can go off into the environment and routinely employ the bacteria on a larger scale.”

According to Robert Anitori, a microbiologist at Oregon Health and Science University, “the importance of the research being performed by the Argonne group is that they are trying to understand what is going on in the field.”

Other bacteria, iron may work too

“This is unique, compared to the numerous previous studies in this area,” he said. “Their work will result in improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of uranium-eating bacteria employed in contaminated sites.”

Anitori is currently working on a similar project using a nanoscale form of iron to clean up a uranium-contaminated site on the Columbia River in Washington State. He has also worked with the Australian Centre for Astrobiology, based at the University of New South Wales, on similar ‘extremophile’ bacteria inhabiting radioactive hot springs in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges.

According to Anitori, “the [Argonne] results are easily applicable in an Australian context, in that they would be easy to adapt to any uranium contaminated site.” One such example is the leakage of uranium-contaminated water from the Ranger uranium mine, located in the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park in Australia’s Northern Territory.

In 2009 the Australian Office of the Supervising Scientist warned that the Ranger Uranium Mine was spilling the equivalent of three petrol tankers-worth of contaminated water into the ground each day. In total, there have been more than 150 leaks, spills and other problems at the site since it opened in 1981.

Earlier this year, news outlets reported that the water seeping out from beneath the dam at the Ranger mine has a uranium level of about 5,400 times greater than the natural background level.

While Australia has no nuclear weapons, and does not currently use uranium to generate electricity, it holds around 23% of the world’s uranium reserves, has three large-scale uranium mines and three nuclear reactors with the capacity to commercially produce radioisotopes for nuclear medicine and neutrons for research and irradiation of materials. Australia has also accumulated over 4000 cubic metres of low level and ‘short-lived’ intermediate level radioactive waste in the past 40 years.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory published two studies on the research in January and February this year. Both appeared in the US-based journal Environmental Science & Technology.

Fukushima & US Deaths. First hour guest, Dr. John Apsley reported on increased deaths in North America that he believes are associated with the Fukushima catastrophe, and the leaking of radiation. There was a spike in infant mortality rates within the first 10 weeks of the catastrophe in cities across the US, and the radiation contamination likely came through rainfall, he said, adding that infants were particularly susceptible because of their reduced thyroid function. Russia Stunned After Japanese Plan To Evacuate 40 Million Revealed

A new report circulating in the Kremlin today prepared by the Foreign Ministry on the planned re-opening of talks with Japan over the disputed Kuril Islands during the next fortnight states that Russian diplomats were “stunned” after being told by their Japanese counterparts that upwards of 40 million of their peoples were in “extreme danger” of life threatening radiation poisoning and could very well likely be faced with forced evacuations away from their countries eastern most located cities… including the world’s largest one, Tokyo.

The Kuril Islands are located in Russia’s Sakhalin Oblast region and stretch approximately 1,300 km (810 miles) northeast from Hokkaidō, Japan, to Kamchatka, Russia, separating the Sea of Okhotsk from the North Pacific Ocean. There are 56 islands and many more minor rocks. It consists of Greater Kuril Ridge and Lesser Kuril Ridge, all of which were captured by Soviet Forces in the closing days of World War II from the Japanese.

The “extreme danger” facing tens of millions of the Japanese peoples is the result of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster that was a series of equipment failures, nuclear meltdowns, and releases of radioactive materials at the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant, following the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami on 11 March 2011.

According to this report, Japanese diplomats have signaled to their Russian counterparts that the returning of the Kuril Islands to Japan is “critical” as they have no other place to resettle so many people that would, in essence, become the largest migration of human beings since the 1930’s when Soviet leader Stalin forced tens of millions to resettle Russia’s far eastern regions.

Important to note, this report continues, are that Japanese diplomats told their Russian counterparts that they were, also, “seriously considering” an offer by China to relocate tens of millions of their citizens to the Chinese mainland to inhabit what are called the “ghost cities,” built for reasons still unknown and described, in part, by London’s Daily Mail News Service in their 18 December 2010 article titled: “The Ghost Towns Of China: Amazing Satellite Images Show Cities Meant To Be Home To Millions Lying Deserted” that says:

“These amazing satellite images show sprawling cities built in remote parts of China that have been left completely abandoned, sometimes years after their construction. Elaborate public buildings and open spaces are completely unused, with the exception of a few government vehicles near communist authority offices. Some estimates put the number of empty homes at as many as 64 million, with up to 20 new cities being built every year in the country’s vast swathes of free land.”

Foreign Ministry experts in this report note that should Japan accept China’s offer, the combined power of these two Asian peoples would make them the largest super-power in human history with an economy larger than that of the United States and European Union combined and able to field a combined military force of over 200 million.

To how dire the situation is in Japan was recently articulated by Japanese diplomat Akio Matsumura who warned that the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear plant may ultimately turn into an event capable of extinguishing all life on Earth.

According to the Prison Planet News Service:

“Matsumura posted [this] startling entry on his blog following a statement made by Japan’s former ambassador to Switzerland, Mitsuhei Murata, on the situation at Fukushima.

Speaking at a public hearing of the Budgetary Committee of the House of Councilors on 22 March 2012, Murata warned that “if the crippled building of reactor unit 4 – with 1,535 fuel rods in the spent fuel pool 100 feet (30 meters) above the ground – collapses, not only will it cause a shutdown of all six reactors but will also affect the common spent fuel pool containing 6,375 fuel rods, located some 50 meters from reactor 4,” writes Matsumura.

In both cases the radioactive rods are not protected by a containment vessel; dangerously, they are open to the air. This would certainly cause a global catastrophe like we have never before experienced. He stressed that the responsibility of Japan to the rest of the world is immeasurable. Such a catastrophe would affect us all for centuries. Ambassador Murata informed us that the total numbers of the spent fuel rods at the Fukushima Daiichi site excluding the rods in the pressure vessel is 11,421.”

Disturbingly, the desperate situation facing Japan is, also, facing the United States as Russian military observers overflying the US this week as part of the Open Skies Treaty are reporting “unprecedented” amounts of radiation in the Western regions of that country, a finding that was further confirmed by scientists with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute who have confirmed that a wave of highly radioactive waste is headed directly for the US west coast.

Important to note is that this new wave of Fukushima radiation headed towards the US is in addition to earlier radiation events that American scientists are now blaming for radioactive particles from Japan being detected in California kelp.

Though the news of this ongoing global catastrophe is still being heavily censored in the US, the same cannot be said about Japan, and as recently reported by the leading Japanese newspaper The Mainichi Daily News that reports:

“One of the biggest issues that we face is the possibility that the spent nuclear fuel pool of the No. 4 reactor at the stricken Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant will collapse. This is something that experts from both within and outside Japan have pointed out since the massive quake struck. TEPCO, meanwhile, says that the situation is under control. However, not only independent experts, but also sources within the government say that it’s a grave concern.

The storage pool in the No. 4 reactor building has a total of 1,535 fuel rods, or 460 tons of nuclear fuel, in it. The 7-story building itself has suffered great damage, with the storage pool barely intact on the building’s third and fourth floors. The roof has been blown away. If the storage pool breaks and runs dry, the nuclear fuel inside will overheat and explode, causing a massive amount of radioactive substances to spread over a wide area. Both the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and French nuclear energy company Areva have warned about this risk.

A report released in February by the Independent Investigation Commission on the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Accident stated that the storage pool of the plant’s No. 4 reactor has clearly been shown to be “the weakest link” in the parallel, chain-reaction crises of the nuclear disaster. The worse-case scenario drawn up by the government includes not only the collapse of the No. 4 reactor pool, but the disintegration of spent fuel rods from all the plant’s other reactors. If this were to happen, residents in the Tokyo metropolitan area would be forced to evacuate.”

Even though this crisis in Japan has been described as “a nuclear war without a war” and the US Military is being reported is now stocking up on massive amounts of anti-radiation pills in preparation for nuclear fallout, there remains no evidence at all the ordinary peoples are being warned about this danger in any way whatsoever.

POLITICALLY HOT!! BROWN’S GAS USES ~ SUPRESSED Radiation clean-up technology

We are learning more applications for the gas all the time. Examples include making super-pure water (literally formed from atoms), spot glazing for ceramics, repairs on exotic materials, enhancing combustion of petro-fuels (HyZor Technology), neutralizing radioactive waste, etc.

We expect people who use the ERxxxx WaterTorches to discover uses we haven’t even thought of. The possibilities are so endless that this technology will change civilization as we know it.

POLITICALLY HOT BROWN’S GAS USES
We mention these applications here so that you can see why Brown’s Gas would be of interest to nearly anyone. Some of these applications are politically too hot for us to touch right now. We have enough internal (Eagle-Research) evidence to mention these uses as potentially real and are working to get independent verification. DISCLAIMER: Until we have independent verification we are describing the below information as RUMORS.

In the meantime, we feel that it is important to get as many ERxxxx WaterTorches out into the world as possible, so that the technology has public acceptance when we then tell people the many ways to use the Brown’s Gas for their personal benefit.

Pure ‘New’ Water Manufacture
We’re learning that water can be ‘programed’ to pass on health. This is easy to do with the water formed by the ‘exhaust’ of the Brown’s Gas flame. The production of Brown’s Gas ‘erases’ previous programing and then we can impress new programing on the water as it is newly reformed. We can make water that gives a feeling of relaxation and well-being just by drinking it.

Hydrated Water for Health
When Brown’s Gas is bubbled through clean water, the water absorbs oxygen and hydrogen. We think there is an additional energy (electrical in nature) added to the water as well. We find the drinking the resulting enhanced, oxygenated and hydrated water to bring us alert like drinking a cup of coffee, without the side effects.

Many people know that oxygenated water is healthful. There are many companies selling water that has had oxygen added to it.

What is generally unknown is that water is even more healthful when hydrogen is added to it. Drinking water is called hydrating the body. An astonishing fact is that chlorinated water, coffee, carbonated and sweetened fluids are generally dehydrating. Most of the diseases known to mankind (including aging) can be prevented or mitigated by hydrating the body.

Every test of Brown’s Gas enhanced water shows it to be super hydrating, far superior to regular water (as much as 10 times).

Enhanced water is an essential key to keeping an active youthful body as the years go by. We have reason to believe this water enhances every chemical process in the body, making a super immune system and mitigating the symptoms of aging, mostly caused by dehydration.

Detoxifying Water
In North America chlorine is used to purify water, intending to kill microorganisms that cause disease. Chlorine is a deadly poison and attempts are made to put in just enough to kill the microorganisms and not the person drinking it. Most of the rest of the world purifies water using Ozone, a form of oxygen. Oxygen kills the microorganisms without harm to people. Brown’s Gas is an excellent way to oxygenate drinking water.

Atmosphere Enhancement
We now live in an area that has very dry air. We were using nearly a gallon (4 L) of water a night to keep our bedroom moist enough so that we could breathe easily. We are finding that the Brown’s Gas gives us the same results using only a cup (250 mL) of water per night.

Muscle Relaxation; Pain Relief
When Brown’s Gas is applied to the skin, hydrogen and oxygen are absorbed which then flows (via blood) to muscles and joints that have problems due to dehydration, resulting in nearly instantaneous relief of pain caused from cramps and swelling. This relief continues for extended periods of time.

Speed Healing of Wounds
When Brown’s Gas is applied to a wound, hydrogen and oxygen are absorbed which kills anaerobic microorganisms and assists cell regeneration.

Help Plants Germinate and Grow
Plant growth can be enhanced by either hydrated water and/or ‘programmed’ water. The resulting plants and fruits are more healthful to eat, providing nutrition and energy that most current produce cannot.

Neutralization of Radioactive Waste
It has now been officially proven (in Canada) that Brown’s Gas can neutralize radioactive waste in seconds, easily and extremely inexpensively. This neutralization treatment can take place right at the nuclear reactor so there is no need to transport or store nuclear waste.

This issue is so politically HOT that we deliberately do not promote it. Brown’s Gas technology is not firmly enough in general use to prevent suppression by ‘vested interest’. This single application is worth billions of dollars and can revolutionize the nuclear power generation industry.

Creating New Industrial Materials
Brown’s Gas can both make and weld rubies together. Brown’s Gas can weld sapphires together. When Brown’s Gas cooks rocks, it turns then into semiprecious material; for example feldspar (30% of earth’s crust) turns into a transparent form of moonstone, which can be used as a nearly indestructible building material (colors can be added).

Transmutation
We’ve learned of two ways of using Brown’s Gas to make materials that did not exist in the original samples. We can make metals from water. Again, too politically HOT to touch.

Inexpensive Toxic Waste Disposal
Brown’s Gas is an implosive flame, with the power to reduce nearly any material to it’s basic components (usually nontoxic). So enclosed chambers can be built to vaporize PCBs and other toxic waste.

Vastly Increase Recoverable Ore
In tests conducted by several mines, Brown’s Gas treated ore allowed recovery of up to three times more mineral. Brown’s Gas can be used to treat waste dumps of obsolete mines, recovering more mineral than the mine originally produced. Again, this application is worth billions of dollars.

Underwater Breathing Gas
Brown’s Gas is nontoxic and breathable. When used as an underwater breathing gas it allows divers to stay underwater longer and come up faster because the hydrogen does not cause the bends as much as nitrogen or helium. This would allow much more use of ocean resources.

Super-Efficient Room Heating
Generally, Brown’s Gas is a poor way to space heat, because the flame radiates very little infrared (heat) energy.

However; there is evidence that, using catalytic materials, a Brown’s Gas heater can be constructed that radiates huge amounts of heat and does not require any room venting. The efficiencies stated are 400%. In other words, a 1000 watts input will produce 4000 watts of heat. Eagle-Research has not yet verified this, but has seen enough evidence to list it here.

Surface Treatment of Materials
When a Brown’s Gas flame is played over the surface of materials, there are effects that can be beneficial. Iron becomes rust resistant, and can be surface hardened to prevent wear. Brick and cement become corrosion and water proof.

Combustion Enhancement
Brown’s Gas has been proven to help burn water/fossel-fuel mixtures in a ratios of up to 90% water. This works in internal AND external combustion (from vehicles to home heating and electrical power plants).

349.5 CPM (counts per minute) = 3495 over the course of 10 minutes.

(first test was 250+ CPM over 5 min – not on camera — several more tests over the next few days forthcoming)

By all accounts, 100 CPM is the alert level for “high radiation”. This means we are far over alert levels when it comes to small radioactive particulate matter in the air.

This boldly contradicts my previous findings from cross country measurements.. highest levels cross country were in Colorado @ 80-100 CPM

Both paper towel and plate pre-tested for ambient background radioactivity (normal) on video.

I intend to repeat this test several more times as well as tomorrow (nov 19 2011) taking several outdoor measurements across the Saint Louis Missouri area using the same collection method.

It appears that regular geiger counters are NOT picking up even LARGE amounts of particulate radioactive material.. (not talking about hot particles here but particles of actual debris material in the air) it requires a collection apparatus which then allows one to be able to measure a “stationary sample” of the particles— this is done when the particles build up on the collection plate — normally these radioactive particles would float by undetected.

Which is why ALL the geiger counters are returning LOW amounts (except those near fukushima directly).

If you have a magnetic air purifier metal collection plate (like an ionic breeze for instance) and a geiger counter, you can repeat this experiment in your area.

I looked into possible contamination by the ionic breeze.. it produces negative ions..the DUST that im wiping off the plate and removing far enough from the whole device.. is producing a radioactive return.

could the ionic breeze be turning my regular household dust into mini-radioactive particles? Not likely… however I do concede that it is a REMOTE possibility that the ionic breeze is a mini-radiation generator that is slowly killing me with radiation (no one has figured it out until today LOL) .. if that is the case I have a lawsuit against ionic breeze for radiation exposure !

More likely, the particles in the air that I am wiping from the plate are indeed radioactive… actually either way they are radioactive, its just a matter as to WHERE are these particles coming from.

Parents this is a must hear report from Chris Busby, especially if you’re living in Japan. But to be honest, this disaster isn’t going away anytime soon and as a result the radiation will also have cumulative effects. So parents anywhere in the Northern hemisphere need to be diligent by getting into a routine of cleansing the radiation from the body and you can make if fun with sea salt and bentonite clay in the bubble bath! Keep them out of the rain and get them on a diet high in kelp from seaweed and miso soup is also highly beneficial so it helps to start learning how to prepare Chinese meals.
