This is a very typical response in the war against consciousness, for the psychological community to call a mystical experience a spiritual “problem” as if it’s something that needs to be fixed. The psychosis is on behalf of mental health professionals who perceive mystical experiences as an illness. Dr Paul Levy has also written extensively on this subject, you can find several posts in the archives talking about his own experiences with psychologists and their misdiagnosis of profoundly spiritual states of consciousness.

A video to share with your psychiatrist or psychologist regarding your mystical experiences!
This video was produced by Sean Blackwell of bipolarORwakingUP for leading transpersonal psychologist, Dr. David Lukoff.
This video presents the background and research for the DSM-IV-TR category Religious or Spiritual Problem, specifically focusing on Mystical Experiences as a type of spiritual problem that can present as a mental disorder. However if recognized and treated as a spiritual experience, it can benefit the individual and avoid unnecessary use of hospitalization and medication.
