Navajo Water Supply is More Horrific than Flint, But No One Cares Because they’re Native American

native-water-worse-than-flint

The news out of Flint, Michigan brought the issue of contaminated drinking water into sharp focus, as it was revealed that officials at every level—local, state and federal—knew about lead-poisoned water for months but did nothing to address the problem.

Under state-run systems like utilities and roads, poorer communities are the last to receive attention from government plagued by inefficiencies and corrupt politicians. Perhaps no group knows this better than Native Americans, who have been victimized by government for centuries.

In the western U.S., water contamination has been a way of life for many tribes. The advocacy group Clean Up The Mines! describes the situation in Navajo country, which is far worse than in Flint, Michigan.

Since the 1950s, their water has been poisoned by uranium mining to fuel the nuclear industry and the making of atomic bombs for the U.S. military. Coal mining and coal-fired power plants have added to the mix. The latest assault on Navajo water was carried out by the massive toxic spills into the Animas and San Juan rivers when the EPA recklessly attempted to address the abandoned Gold King mine.

In 2015 the Gold King Mine spill was a wake-up call to address dangers of abandoned mines, but there are currently more than 15,000 toxic uranium mines that remain abandoned throughout the US,” said Charmaine White Face from the South Dakota based organization Defenders of the Black Hills. “For more than 50 years, many of these hazardous sites have been contaminating the land, air, water, and national monuments such as Mt. Rushmore and the Grand Canyon. Each one of these thousands of abandoned uranium mines is a potential Gold King mine disaster with the greater added threat of radioactive pollution. For the sake of our health, air, land, and water, we can’t let that happen.

There is no comprehensive law requiring cleanup of abandoned uranium mines, meaning corporations and government can walk away from them after exploiting their resources. 75 percent of abandoned uranium mines are on federal and Tribal lands.

Leona Morgan of Diné No Nukes points out one example: “The United Nuclear Corporation mill tailings spill of 1979, north of Churchrock, New Mexico left an immense amount of radioactive contamination that down-streamers, today, are currently receiving in their drinking water. A mostly-Navajo community in Sanders, Arizona has been exposed to twice the legal limit allowable for uranium through their tap.

Last week, Diné No Nukes participated in protests in Washington, D.C. to raise awareness of past and ongoing contamination of water supplies in the west, which disproportionately affects Indian country.

“The delegation is warning of the toxic legacy caused by more than 15,000 AUMs nationwide, extreme water contamination, surface strip coal mining and power plants burning coal-laced with radioactive particles, radioactive waste from oil well drilling in the Bakken Oil Range, mill tailings, waste storage, and renewed mining threats to sacred places such as Mt. Taylor in New Mexico and Red Butte in Arizona.”

These uranium mines cause radioactive contamination, and as a result all the residents in their vicinity are becoming nuclear radiation victims,” said Petuuche Gilbert of the Laguna Acoma Coalition for a Safe Environment, the Multicultural Alliance for a Safe Environment and Indigenous World Association. “New Mexico and the federal government have provided little funding for widespread clean up and only occasionally are old mines remediated.  The governments of New Mexico and the United States have a duty to clean up these radioactive mines and mills and, furthermore, to perform health studies to determine the effects of radioactive poisoning. The MASE and LACSE organizations oppose new uranium mining and demand legacy uranium mines to be cleaned up,” said Mr. Gilbert.

Politicians continue to take advantage of Native Americans, making deals with mining companies that would continue polluting their water supplies. Senator John McCain sneaked a resolution into the last defense bill which gave land to Resolution Copper. Their planned copper mining would poison waters that Apaches rely on and would desecrate the ceremonial grounds at Oak Flat.

While EPA and local officials have been forced to address the poisoned water in Flint, the contamination of Indian country water supplies continues. A bill called the Uranium Exploration and Mining Accountability Act, introduced by Arizona Congressman Raúl Grijalva, has languished in Congress for two years.

Burning ship had tonnes of radioactive material

Photo: DPA

Published: 17 May 2013

After a freighter went up in flames at the start of the month while carrying radioactive material into Hamburg’s harbour, it has emerged that the German port city receives such hazardous cargo up to seven times a month.

Fire fighters said they had only narrowly been able to prevent a catastrophe on May 1st when the freighter “Atlantic Cartier” caught fire – complete with its radioactive load.

Tens of thousands of people were gathered just a few hundred metres away to celebrate the Evangelical church day when the ship went up in dramatic flames.

Fire fighters were able to quickly identify the containers which had the radioactive cargo and remove them before anything worse happened. The authorities confirmed that the ship had been carrying around nine tonnes of the dangerous uranium hexafluoride, a toxic chemical used in the nuclear industry, as well as four tonnes of explosives, the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported.

The Green party forced the information into the open with a written question to the city government, local radio station NDR 90.3 reported.

“Hamburg just managed to scrape past a catastrophe on May 1st,” Anjes Tjarks, Green spokesman for harbour policy told the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

“It is a monstrosity that the government did not inform the public about this near-catastrophe of its own initiative. One has to speak of a cover-up attempt.”

Yet Frank Reschreiter, spokesman for Hamburg’s interior authority, said the dangerous cargo was known about – which was why the fire fighters knew to remove the relevant containers. Nothing dangerous leaked, he said.

Now the city government has admitted that radioactive material had been brought into the harbour on Atlantic Container Line ships 21 times in the past three months.

Concrete information about which ships were being used to take the radioactive substances, and which route they were taking, would not be revealed, Hamburg’s government said.

Most of the shipments were due for a uranium-enriching facility in Lingen, Lower Saxony, NDR 90.3 reported on Friday.

NUKED IN THE SKIES: Kim Kardashian, Lil Wayne, Kelly Osbourne ~ IMPORTANT HEALTH INFORMATION

Once again, Christina Consolo and guest Leuren Moret cover a VERY important health topic touching everyone’s life: Radiation fall-out from Fukushima. After two years of fall-out, serious exposure symptoms are beginning to appear in signs of declining health in many young celebrity’s, especially in the frequent flyers ~ including individuals in the general population who are racking up airline miles. Frequent flyers like celebrities, pilots, flight crews and business class are simply the canary’s in the coal mine, we’re all are constantly exposed to higher than normal levels of radiation in the general environment and in the food supply; which itself, has become thoroughly toxified with pesticides, gmo’s, fluoride and a growing list of preservatives.

For myself, two months after Fukushima began spewing radiation into the environment I relapsed into Hepatitis C after being in remission since 1998.  At the time I was outside most of the day doing landscaping and gardening work for an employer, as well as the property I live on. I spent a lot of time sitting on wet grass after the rains being exposed to radiation coming from the sky.  In addition, my home is located in the tropical rainforest and my windows are open all day so I’m also exposed to particulates in the air. There’s no indoor ventilation system so the windows need to stay open during the day or mildew will take over fast.

I’ve had a helluva time over the last two years recovering from the Hep C and am still dealing with liver issues today.  Recently I learned ALL of the teeth in my upper jaw and a few on the lower, are falling out due to “advanced” periodontal disease, when only two years ago there was no sign of deterioration or disease. Last week after a mammogram, they found a mass in my left breast so I have to go in for more testing. In addition, I’m losing bone density ~ which may be a symptom of menopause and can’t be directly tied to radiation exposure, even tho strontium is linked to bone deterioration. To top all that off, there’s something going on in my hip joints that needs further testing to see what’s going on.

Now, when all of this is happening to someone who lives a nutritionally healthy lifestyle, thinks positive and meditates daily, one can only imagine the health affects a radioactive environment is having on the youth, pregnant women, those with immune deficiencies, the elderly and the general population who aren’t educated on nutritional supplements or healthy diets. Recently I’ve talked with others who are having problems with teeth falling out and other health problems in normally healthy people.

Regarding the side effects of radiation, the medical community is either clueless or has been silenced into NOT addressing the issue of radiation from Fukushima. Whatever the case, they appear to be ambivalent of the radiation doses people are receiving and how it’s affecting our health. The problem isn’t in a lack of data on radiation, most of it’s affects were known as early as the 1920’s. But to be fair to the average doctor or nurse, the Rockefeller’s most likely omitted radiation education from the medical school curriculum, just as they have done with natural medicine and herbal treatment to cure disease.

The fact that Japan has been left on it’s own to deal with this nuclear nightmare in a highly incompetent, criminally negligent manner is a telling sign of the real agenda: indiscriminate depopulation.

There are many things you can do to fight radiation damage and help reduce the risk of health problems, readers sent in numerous recommendations that you can find in the right hand column under the category Radiation from Fukushima in the sub-category Remedies and Antidotes for Radiation Exposure.

Please share this show freely, thank you!

“Prof. Doug Brugge on the medical effects of uranium mining and how mining particularly harms Native peoples”
This week’s guest is Doug Brugge, a professor in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the author of The Navajo People and Uranium Mining and the associate editor of the Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health. His research includes studies of asthma; the impact of culture and language on health communication; the impact of environmental tobacco smoke; traffic pollution and cardiovascular disease; and the impact of uranium mining and processing on Native Americans. Prof. Brugge and Dr. Caldicott cover how they both started their antinuclear activism with Native peoples in the U.S. and Australia, respectively. Topics discussed in this episode include the health effects of radon, how uranium mining induces lung cancer, the cover-up of the harm caused to Native American uranium miners and their communities, the enlargement of uranium mining operations in Australia and elsewhere, and how Native peoples in many places, from India to Canada to North America and Australia, find themselves in harm’s way when their land is found to contain mineable uranium. Scientific dishonesty and nuclear power ~ by Chris Busby

This article is based on the talk by Dr. Chris Busby about scientific dishonesty in nuclear issues at the Royal Society in London last November. Please also see the video of the talk — There is also a Powerpoint presentation.

Dishonesty and the Science Policy Interface
Dr Christopher Busby

There is a problem I want to draw to the attention of those who watch the world and the antics of those who run it. It is a problem that has exercised my mind for some time, one that I came to as a result of my interest in the health effects of low dose radiation. I have written about my researches and discoveries in this area (Busby 1995, 2006) and most recently about the health effects of uranium weapons (Busby UNIDIR 2009). But as I conducted my naïve enquiries in these areas of science, it dawned on me quite early on, that there was a dangerous gap between what the politicians and those who ran the show believed (or said they believed) and the facts, if I may (also naïvely) call them that. In 2003 I was asked to become the leader of the Science Policy Interface group of an EU funded outfit, the Policy Information Network on Child Health and the Environment (PINCHE). Here I met a wide range of eminent research scientists and doctors from across Europe, and in the meetings we had, we discussed the ways in which science is translated into policy, a subject that I had studied and seen in the area of radiation risk. I think I was chosen for this position because of my experience in the area and my cynicism. I certainly used it to ensure that the final report made clear to the EU Commissioners (van den Hazel et al. 2006) that there was a bias at the Science Policy Interface that needed putting right (in case they didn’t already know, that is). I wrote about all this at some length in my book Wolves of Water. What I want to do here is to try and take the issue further. I base this essay on the presentation I made at the Royal Society London in October 2007 where I was asked by Roger Coghill to dish the dirt on this area of science and policy based on some of my experiences.

Let me begin by saying that those who think that there is a conspiracy to exclude the truth in various areas associated with environmental risk are quite correct. There is. Quite how it works I am not so sure about even in the quite well-defined cases I will present here. Why do those who are key figures act like they do? I think that probably there are many factors; financial, cultural, legal, psychological and economic among them. Also fear: in the Committee Examining Radiation Risk of Internal Emitters (CERRIE) committee members were threatened with personal litigation and they subsequently changed their position and voted in the opposite direction (CERRIE 2004b). There are certainly dirty tricks. What I have noticed is that very often the individuals I find at the centre of some questionable or dishonest behaviour are people from what I call a subordinate culture, people who have been poor in their childhood, people from the colonies who want to belong or to be important, from poor areas of the country, people who didn’t go to the best universities, people who have some reason to tie their psychological security to their position, a position, usually a key position, handed to them by government. They are so grateful and so fearful! I guess a lot of politicians are like that: why else would you wish to be a politician? The selective filtering of personality types into power is an interesting area in itself and one that essentially makes a nonsense of democracy.

Legacy of Treason – Depleted Uranium and the Poisoning of Humanity

Legacy of Treason - Depleted Uranium and the Poisoning of Humanity image

treason n 1 betrayal of one’s sovereign or country.
2 any treachery or betrayal. treasonable adj treasonous adj

In recent years I have become aware of the issue of depleted uranium (DU) and its use by the US Military in Iraq in 1991 and again in the current Iraq war. The photos of birth deformities and stories of suffering resulting from DU shocked me, reminding me of the Agent Orange victims of America’s Vietnam war. Then I watched David Bradbury and Peter Scott’s film, Blowin’ in the Wind. Its content shocked and appalled me, and spurred me into researching and writing this article. It is undoubtedly one of the most significant issues on the planet today, and yet the mainstream media stays quiet.

Depleted uranium (DU) is what is left after raw uranium has been enriched to the highly radioactive isotope U-235 used for weapons and power generation. For every ton of U-235 produced, there are seven tons of DU. Estimates vary, but it seems that currently the US alone has in excess of five million tons of stockpiles of DU. This has no commercial use beyond its use as a radiation shield in medical devices, and for adding to concrete to form radiation containing bunkers. However, this requires an insignificant quantity of the DU produced each year.

The half-life of DU is 4.5 billion years, so storing it safely and indefinitely is cost prohibitive. To remedy the situation, the US Department of Energy has made it freely available to the Pentagon and US armaments and armour manufacturers, and it has been used in weapons exported to 29 countries. It is simply cheaper to make it into weapons than store it.

It is widely accepted that DU itself is fairly stable, as the dangerous alpha particles which it emits cannot pass through more than a couple of centimetres of air. The problems arise when DU is in contact with water or is used in weaponry and explodes. (Remember the footage of the Baghdad bombing, with all the big sparks flying into the air? — The sparks were DU that was on fire and exploding.) It then creates a vapourised, radioactive gas comprising of tiny nano-particles.

The microscopic particles in this vapour are then littered, depending upon prevailing winds, up to 100 kms around (estimates on this vary — with some sources citing up to 1000 kms), where they fall on crops, water, or just on the ground to be picked up by the next gust of wind or by car tyres. Later, when this gas enters the atmosphere, it can spread worldwide.

The nanoparticles of DU enter the body, from the air, from landing on clothing or skin and from food or water. These nanoparticles penetrate all protective clothing and masks (nothing can filter these particles out), and once it comes in contact with the body it immediately disperses and begins to alter DNA. As it is not soluble it cannot be excreted from the body. Uranium is a toxic chemical element, just like lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium.

According to the declassified Groves memo from the Manhattan Project in 1943, the properties of DU in weapons have been known and strategised with for 60 years. It is clear that the US has known for 60 years about the effects of DU on the battlefield, also the danger to its own soldiers.

Why is DU so useful as a weapon?

DU is very hard, the hardest and densest of metals, and so is used for armour piercing rounds, fired from tanks, ships, aircraft and snipers, and for the bunker buster bombs made famous in the 2003 attack on Baghdad. It is also in the Tomahawk Cruise missiles fired from ships. Being so hard, it is also used extensively in the armour plating of tanks and armoured cars.

DU is a pyroforic metal, meaning it burns. The bullets and large calibre shells are actually on fire when they come out of the gun barrel because they are ignited by the friction in the barrel and explode on contact — armour piercing incendiary ammunition. Most of the DU metal becomes a metal vapour, so it is really a radioactive gas weapon once the initial destruction has occurred. DU weaponry are nuclear weapons. No question.

The military use of DU violates current international law including the principle that there is no unlimited right to choose the means and methods of warfare. Instead governments, including the Australian Government in correspondence about this matter with the writer, state that because it is not a nuclear weapon it does not contravene nuclear agreements.

When speaking of the quantities of DU used in various wars it is worth understanding that the amount of uranium used in the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima was approximately 13kg, about the size of a two-litre milk container. A Japanese professor, Dr. K. Yagasaki, has calculated that in terms of the atomicity, (the amount of radiation produced), a ton of DU used on the battlefield releases the equivalent of 100 Hiroshima bombs worth of radiation released into the atmosphere.

Thus when experts refer to the 2000 tons of DU dropped on Iraq in the past three years, what is being released in the Iraqi atmosphere, and then spreading worldwide, is the equivalent of 200,000 Hiroshima bombs.

The total amount of DU the US has used since 1991 is approximately 4600 tons (1000 in the first Gulf War, 800 in Kosovo, 800 in Afghanistan and a further 2000 tons in the current Iraq war.) This amounts to approximately 460,000 Hiroshima bombs, ten times the amount of radiation released into the atmosphere from all previous nuclear testing worldwide.

Gulf War Syndrome

Over the past 18 months there has been an erupting scandal in the US in the Department of Veterans Affairs as DU is blamed by more and more respected scientists for Gulf War Syndrome (and also, Balkans War Syndrome).

Of the 580,000 US soldiers that served in Iraq in 1991, by mid 2004, 518,739 were on medical disability pensions. This figure is 150,000 higher than just one year earlier. There are no more recent statistics, but it would appear that by now the percentages of soldiers affected would be reaching 100%

According to Leuren Moret, in a group of 251 soldiers from a study group in Mississippi who had all had normal babies before the first Gulf War, 67% of their post-war babies were born with severe birth defects. They were born with missing legs, arms, organs or eyes or had immune system and blood diseases. In some veterans’ families now, the only normal or healthy members of the family are the children born before the war. This is the only group of soldiers who served in Iraq whose health has been studied over some years.

‘The use of depleted uranium weapons is a crime against humanity, a crime against all species, and a war against the earth,’ says Moret. ‘It is imperative that we demand a permanent international moratorium on the sale and the use of depleted uranium weaponry.’

DU: Coming to a country near you

A 20-year agreement was signed om 2005 between the United States and Australia, the specific terms of which are secret, but which allows the US military to train and test its latest weapons in Australia. This involves bombing ranges in the pristine Shoalwater Bay near Rockhampton in Queensland and at Lancelin, the lobster fishing village 150kms north of Perth where there would be ship-to-shore bombing from nuclear powered and capable US navy ships.

Also in the Northern Territory a ‘test’ bombing range has been designated where B52s and Stealth bombers will, as of January 06, and as you read this, be dumping their payloads on their flights from Guam. The US Navy uses DU in its shelling, and the B52s will be most likely (presumably they will be testing the weapons they actually use) carrying bunker buster bombs with their 2.2 tons of DU each. Retrospective legislation was passed to remove the need for any Environmental Impact Study (EIS) before or after the duration of this agreement.

When asked in the Australian Senate about whether or not the US would be using DU in its bombing of Australian sites, Defence Minister Senator Hill said, ‘In relation to Depleted Uranium used by our allies we have said that, if they believe it is the most appropriate element to use in their particular munitions in certain circumstances, we do not think it is appropriate for us to press a different view upon them.’ Senator Hill has since retired from Australian politics and has taken up residence as the Australian UN Ambassador in New York.

(The author has since been in contact with the Australian Department of Defence who vehemently refute that DU weaponry is being used within Australian waters on the basis of a 1960s law preventing the use of nuclear weapons in Australian waters or on Australian land. However, given that DU weapons are not officially classified as nuclear weapons they would not come under this law.
Given, however, the propensity of the Australian Government to avoid asking any uncomfortable questions of our US allies, and to adhere quite strongly to the doctrine of plausible deniability (‘I did not know’ seems to work as an excuse for Government’s systemic willful ignorance) it is more likely that the Australian Department of Defence does not in fact know what the US is using in its bombs, and does not want to know.)

Insert: The death economy

More and more it appears that the things which are most important are simply those that generate the biggest growth in profits, in the GDP. Sickness generates business, cancer rates generate research dollars, war accelerates growth, and we wonder why peace is so elusive when we worship the economy. The following is equally applicable to Australia now as it was to the US in the 1960s.
Too much and for too long we seem to have surrendered personal excellence and community values in the mere accumulation of material things. Our gross national product now is over $800 billion a year.

But that gross national product, if we judge the United States of America by that, counts air pollution, and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage. It counts special locks for our doors, and the jails for people who break them. It counts the destruction of redwoods and the loss of our natural wonder in chaotic sprawl. It counts napalm and it counts nuclear warheads, and armoured cars for the police to fight the riots in our cities. It counts Whitman’s rifle and Speck’s knife, and the television program which glorify violence in order to sell toys to our children.
Yet the gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages, the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage, neither our wisdom nor our learning, neither our passion nor our devotion to our country.
It measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile. And it can tell us everything about America — except why we are proud that we are Americans.

— Robert Kennedy, 18/3/1968

Ultimately we do not know how much DU is being used in Shoalwater Bay, or Lancelin or dumped daily in the Northern Territory.

We do know that Japan, the Philippines and Puerto Rica no longer allow the US to bomb their lands with DU, and that there is no ship-to-shore bombing allowed anymore on the US mainland.

We know that there are hundreds of very vocal groups in opposition worldwide to the use of DU, who have devoted their lives to this issue.

We also know that the US government does not particularly care about the safety of their troops or anyone else’s, and is seemingly content to poison the world for eternity, and poison themselves in the process. We know that weapons usage is classified and that such information will never be freely supplied to the Australian people, while nuclear powered and armed ships are cruising the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. In January, the largest nuclear powered and capable aircraft carrier in the world, boasting 6000 marines on board, docked in Brisbane.

If the contamination of Shoalwater Bay and Lancelin is anything like Iraq, Kosovo, or Afghanistan, then the vicinity of these places should be avoided. But it would be a mistake to think that the troubles are confined to those areas. The beef and pineapples from Rockhampton, and the seafood from Lancelin, could be contaminated and end up on your bbq. After this article was first published a reader contacted the West Australian Government who assured them that the Federal Government had told them, in writing, that DU was not being used in WA.

The Federal Government may in fact believe what it is saying, but given the photo that appeared on the US Navy’s own website, of DU shells being loaded into a ship’s gun in Shoalwater Bay (scroll to near bottom of page), it beggars belief that they would not be using DU in WA. After all, according to the Defence Department, DU is perfectly safe. They test weapons that they use, and they certainly use DU weapons.

According to Leuren Moret, it is simply no longer possible to go to Afghanistan or the Middle East without being contaminated. How long before that is also true of Australia?

There are questions that need to be asked by everyone related to the integrity of our political leadership.

Does our government have our best interests in mind

  • When they sign up for bombardments on Australian soil and in Australian waters by DU tipped weaponry?
  • When they refuse to stipulate that no nuclear weapons are to be used on our shores, and will they guarantee that our children will not grow up breathing in DU nanoparticles?
• when they sign up for Son of Star Wars , which will cost in excess of $50 billion? (To protect us from what? Who?)
  • When they decide to sequester large tracts of land in the Northern Territory for eternity for a nuclear dump, so the US and UK can dump their ‘spent’ nuclear fuel and we can export more uranium?
  • When they sign up for a de facto [unshielded] nuclear dump under the guise of a joint bombing facility in the Northern Territory?

Who is running the agenda that says that all of a sudden it is OK to talk about new nuclear power stations as if nuclear power is an answer to global warming? David Goodstein, professor of physics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) said on ABC’s Lateline in October 2004 that if nuclear power were to provide all of the energy that fossil fuel currently provides there would be enough uranium for just 10 years!

Westinghouse and GE build most of the nuclear power stations in the world, and also happen to own significant stakes in most major media companies in the US, which is largely why no real discussion will arise from the US on this issue. Nuclear power becomes unviable if the cost of disposing of the DU is factored in, which is why it is given to the Pentagon. Now Australia wants to expand the number and size of its uranium mines to sell to India and China (Who knows how they will dispose of their DU!).

Now Australia, thanks to John Howard, is talking seriously about building nuclear power stations when our largest single electricity supplier, the Snowy Mountains company, is running at 13% capacity! (SMH, 24/5/06) (see an article by the same author, debunking much of the mythology surrounding nuclear power, such as it supposed green and economic credentials. A must read if you want to understand and be a part of the nuclear power debate.)

Together we need to do something. Research the internet, find out for yourself what the DU debate is about. Do the research before you speak to anyone so you know what you are talking about, as you will find that most people will not want to believe that this is happening. The list of websites supplied at the end of this article is by no means definitive, but is a good place to start.

Get in touch with any of the many groups that have mobilised over this issue all over the world. Start your own group. Do not let the size of the opposition and the scale of the ignorance and unwillingness to know the truth that you will be confronted with, convince you that you are helpless and cannot do anything about DU. This is what they depend on .

  • Contact your local politician, and do not accept anything that smells like a brush-off. This may well be the most important thing you ever do.
  • Buy a copy and arrange a showing of the film Blowin’ in the Wind at your local cinema, and get your local community radio station to broadcast talks, interviews and lectures like those available on alternativeradio.org or traprockpeace.org and many other websites.
  • If you live or holiday near the affected areas, make lots of noise with the local councillors and media. Be disobedient. Be seditious. Get the use of DU weaponry stopped. It is nuclear weaponry.
  • Find out who provides the Public Liability insurance for the army, and does that insurer know the risks associated with DU? Perhaps the way to stop this is through the public liability requirements that the Australian population is tied up with. Any insurance lawyers out there?

This is our home that is being poisoned. It is our country. Demand that it is respected and protected for our children and their children. History will not forgive us if we stand by idly.

Is a Fukushima-level Event Inside the United States a Foregone Conclusion?

Joe Wright Activist Post
Fukushima has been an unfortunate wake-up call to the planetary fallout that nuclear power harnesses.  As the ongoing meltdown continues in Japan, it is forcing many to investigate myriad similar reactors that directly threaten other parts of the globe.
This past week the San Onofre reactor located in Southern California came under intense scrutiny, as it was revealed that a “small” leak had occurred, prompting a shutdown.
There are clear indicators that other nuclear power plants in the East and Midwest are showing signs of deterioration, which some are concluding increases the likelihood of a Fukushima-style meltdown, or worse, inside the United States if nature were to push one of these facilities beyond its breaking point, as we witnessed in Japan.
The video below outlines a “breakdown phase” we seem to have entered, and the consequences of the release of the radioactive isotope, tritium, which directly affects DNA structure.

Cassandra Anderson recently wrote about the vast dangers of these leaky nuclear reactors, which she highlighted within the ongoing battle over Vermont’s Yankee nuclear facility; just one of several that have similarly off-vented radioactive steam.  As Anderson points out, Yankee is “identical to Fukushima Reactor #1,” and “75% of US reactors are leaking radioactive material.”
Furthermore, in addition to the physical threat to both humans and the environment, Anderson succinctly points out the true economiccost of nuclear power:

Nearly 20% of energy in the US is produced by nuclear facilities. Nuclear energy is far more expensive than other energy sources, but the real cost is hidden because of government subsidies, tax breaks, insurance
schemes and legal loopholes.   Nuclear energy is estimated to be 60% greater than the cost of electricity from coal or gas fuel power plants.  Therefore, nuclear energy would die without massive taxpayer handouts because it could not survive in a free market.

It is becoming clear that the powerful interests behind the promotion of nuclear power, as well as the compromised bureaucracy of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, are only adding to a grave threat by politicizing this issue.  The planetary effects of provably increased radiation levels across much of the globe should be one area where we all can agree that a proper solution needs to be discussed immediately, regardless of party lines. We certainly cannot rely upon the very same agencies who have demonstrated that their idea of a solution is merely to raise the acceptable levels of radiation exposure.
The apparent threat of additional mega meltdowns requires all of us to consider this issue thoroughly.  Some have proposed that individual states begin to assert their rights and properly decommission these leaky plants, or declare a State of Emergency that would put the authority back in its rightful place.  It is a costly initiative to implement a shutdown, but the alternative could very easily result in irreparable regret for not having acted sooner.
Please offer your own comments and solutions for how we best can safeguard our planet against ongoing nuclear contamination.

Here are the reasons why we all need to stay diligent, to never forget the importance of taking kelp, calcium, baking soda/sea salt baths, eating miso soup and a variety of other measures to stay healthy – especially where children and young adults are concerned. There are many great suggestions for staying healthy posted here to the left in the Radiation Remedies category, please feel free to pass them on.

WAR CRIMES! US Military using ENRICHED URANIUM in secret weapons deployed in Iraq

Note regarding the late date, this is another post that mysteriously ended up in the drafts folder after being posted.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Occupy movement needs to bring Busby on board for his own protection, as well as exposing these crimes because this information has got to be exposed. The US military and possibly Israel are committing international war crimes using nuclear weapons, and this insanity has got to be stopped for good!
