Fukushima: First Images Emerge Of Radioactive Salmon In Canada

Bad news for everyone – the first radioactive salmon was found in British Columbia, Canada and there are pictures to prove it. After it was revealed that over a third of the world’s oceans were contaminated from the Fukushima rector’s explosion, a team of researchers from the University of Victoria started investigating and were shocked to find the radioactive samples of salmon. The US west coast is also contaminated and traces of seaborne Cesium 123 (the indicator of Fukushima nuclear contamination) were detected in the ocean waters.first-images-emerge-of-radioactive-salmon-in-canada

Environews reports: WHOI is a crowd-funded science seawater sampling project, which has been monitoring the radioactive plume making its way across the Pacific to America’s west coast, from the demolished Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in eastern Japan.

The researchers collected samples from the shores of Tillamook Bay and Gold Beach in January and February last year and conducted tests which revealed traces of radioactive Cesium 123.

After more and more reports of contamination started appearing everything was clear, it was just a matter of time when the sea life will become contaminated as well. Last month researchers at the Fukushima InFORM project in Canada led by University of Victoria chemical oceanographer Jay Cullen tested several samples of sockeye salmon from Okanagan Lake in British Columbia and the results came positive for Cesium 134.

But this isn’t the first reported case of contamination far from the waters in Fukushima. There have been numerous reports, mostly published in alternative media outlets but there haven’t been any tangible data that indicate radioactive contamination of salmon in Canada thus far.

It’s not a surprise if we consider the fact that contamination from the Fukushima explosion reached the coasts of US and Canada within days of the explosion, and who knows where else it has circled, influenced by tides and currents. Radioactive iodine 131 was also found in municipal water supplies in places like Pennsylvania and Massachusetts shortly after the initial Fukushima explosion.

According to the tests, the samples from the Oregon coast measured around 0.3 becquerels per cubic meter for cesium 134.This level of radiation was deemed safe and “not a risk to humans or the environment”  by multiple researchers in both the US and Canada. And as with everything else, the cover up was successful since all major media outlets like NBC, the New York Post, USA Today, and even The Inquisitr conveyed their opinion and reported there’s nothing for us to worry. But we should know better – there’s no such thing as safe amount of radiation for living organisms! Every exposure to radiation, no matter how small, increases our risk for cancer and other serious medical conditions!

Veterans ‘Deploy’ To Standing Rock To Engage The Enemy — The US Government

On Dec. 4,  hundreds of veterans will muster at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota. The mission: To stop the Dakota Access Pipeline.

“Most civilians who’ve never served in a uniform are gutless worms who’ve never been in a fight in their life,” Wes Clark Jr. declares. “So if we don’t stop it, who will?”

Clark Jr. is one of the most vociferous opponents of the Dakota Access Pipeline, a controversial 1,170-mile project that, if and when it is completed, will shuttle an estimated 470,000 barrels of crude oil every day from North Dakota to Illinois. “It’s immoral, and wrong, and dangerous to us all,” Clark Jr. adds.

He doesn’t fit the traditional tree-hugger mold. He’s not a hippie. Nor is he a member of the Lakota or Dakota tribes, the two Native American group known collectively as the Sioux. He’s a former Army officer and the organizer of an upcoming three-day deployment of U.S. military veterans to the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in southern North Dakota, the site of an escalating months-long standoff between law enforcement-backed security contractors and activists that has so far resulted in multiple injuries, more than 500 arrests, and a United Nations investigation of potential human rights abuses.

According to an “operations order” for the planned engagement, posted to social media in mid-November, “First Americans have served in the Unites States Military, defending the soil of our homelands, at a greater percentage than any other group of Americans. There is no other people more deserving of veteran support.”

Clark Jr. is a 47-year-old writer, political commentator, and activist based in California. Joining him in the fight is Michael A. Wood Jr., a Marine Corps veteran and former Baltimore police officer who retired his badge in 2014 to become an advocate for national police reform. Earlier this month, the duo formed Veterans Stand For Standing Rock with the hope of drawing scores of veterans, as well as fire fighters, ex-law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel and others to the battleground for a three-day “deployment” in early December to “prevent progress on the Dakota Access Pipeline and draw national attention to the human rights warriors of the Sioux tribes.” Both men say they’re prepared to take a bullet, rubber or otherwise, for a cause they believe should be of critical importance to any patriotic American.

“This country is repressing our people,” Wood Jr. says. “If we’re going to be heroes, if we’re really going to be those veterans that this country praises, well, then we need to do the things that we actually said we’re going to do when we took the oath to defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic.”

The Standing Rock Sioux Reservation was originally established as part of the Great Sioux Reservation under Article 2 of the Treaty of Fort Laramie of April 29, 1868. In 1877, the U.S. government initiated the still ongoing process of chipping away and dividing the land it had granted to the people of the Lakota and Dakota nations, with significant reductions taking place in 1889 and then again during the 1950s and 1960s, when the Army Corps of Engineers built five large dams along the Missouri River, uprooting villages and sinking 200,000 acres of land below water.

When the Corps of Engineers returned to Standing Rock in 2015, it was to assess whether or not it should approve a path for the Dakota Access Pipeline across the Missouri River, a project that would involve construction on some of the land that had been stripped from the Sioux, who still regard it as sacred — although, that fact seems to have been ignored, maybe even intentionally, in the assessment.

Because the Corps neglected to consult the Standing Rock Sioux, as it was required to do under the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106), the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Interior, and the American Council on Historic Preservation all criticized the assessment, but the project was eventually approved. The decision was a major victory for Energy Transfer Partners, the Texas-based parent company of Dakota Access LLC, which estimates the pipeline will bring $156 million in sales and income taxes to state and local governments and create thousands of temporary jobs.

For the Standing Rock Sioux, the Dakota Access project poses two immediate threats. First, the pipeline would run beneath Lake Oahe, the reservoir that provides drinking water to the people of Standing Rock. (An earlier route that avoided native lands was ruled out in part because it posed a danger to drinking water.) Second, according to the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, the building of the pipeline would destroy the sacred spots and burial grounds that were overlooked in the Corps’ assessment. But as the protests have intensified, and more outsiders, including members of more than 200 Native American tribes from across North America, have become involved, Standing Rock has, for some, come to represent something much bigger than a struggle between a disenfranchised people and a government-backed, billion-dollar corporation. It’s a battle to save humanity from itself.

standing-rock-feature

“Mother Earth’s axis is off and it’s never going back,” says Phyllis Young, a Sioux tribal elder. “And we have to help keep it in balance for as long as we can. I am a mother and a grandmother. Those are my credentials to ensure a future with clean drinking water — a future of human dignity, human rights, and human survival.”

Young grew up on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. She has been present at many of the protests and says she’s seen people brutalized at the hands of the security contractors and law enforcement officials guarding the land where the drilling is set to take place. It was Young who got Clark Jr involved. In late summer, she was in Washington, D.C., lobbying for the military to promote an alternative (and scientifically dubious) clean energy source called low-energy nuclear reaction, when she heard of a military veteran who was a forceful advocate for environmental conservation. Clark Jr. was eager to help. He spent weeks trying to assemble a legal team for the Standing Rock Sioux, and even contacted Independent Diplomat, a nonprofit organization that helps governments navigate complex diplomatic processes. “I pulled all of the levers, and none of them worked,” Clark Jr. recalls. Then, in early November, the plan dawned on him: He’d bring his fellow veterans. Lots of them. And they’d come prepared to put their lives on the line.

“We’re not going out there to get in a fight with anyone,” Clark Jr. says. “They can feel free to beat us up, but we’re 100% nonviolence.”

You may have heard of Clark Jr.’s father. Wesley Clark Sr. retired from the Army in 2000 as a four-star general. His career began in the jungles of Vietnam, where he was shot four times during an enemy ambush near Saigon, and culminated in a posting as Supreme Allied Commander Europe during the Kosovo War. In 2004, he ran for the Democratic Party presidential nomination on platform that criticized the Iraq War and called for measures to combat climate change. Clark Jr., who was born in Florida while Clark Sr. was in Vietnam and grew up on military bases throughout the United States and Europe, seems to have inherited both his father’s commanding spirit and his progressive ideals.

Clark Jr. had just graduated from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service when he joined the Army as a cavalry officer. He served on active duty from 1992–1996 — “nothing dangerous,” he says. On Sept. 11, 2001, he was living in New York City, and after seeing the towers fall, he decided to re-enlist. “I was like, ‘I’m going back in. I’m going to go in there and fuck people up,’” he recalls. It was Clark Sr., the decorated war hero, who convinced him not to. As Clark Jr. recalls, his father foresaw U.S. military intervention in Iraq and warned that as a soldier he would be fighting a war that had nothing to do with defeating al Qaeda. “He was right, but I’ll tell you, I’ve never felt worse about a decision in my life,” Clark Jr. says.

Clark Jr. may never have served in combat, but when he talks about Standing Rock, he sounds like a battle-hardened general. This isn’t his first foray into boots-on-the-ground environmental activism. He’s currently working with an organization called Climate Mobilization, which is focused on “building and supporting a social movement that causes the US federal government to commence WWII-scale climate mobilization.” But he’s perhaps best known as a co-host of the political web series The Young Turks. On the The Young Turks website, Clark Jr. is described as an Army veteran “currently trying to save human civilization from climate change.” The impending confrontation at Standing Rock, he says, will be “the most important event up to this time in human history.”

Vets Standing For Standing Rock was announced via an official sounding letter formatted like a five-paragraph military operation order, breaking down the “opposing forces” — “Morton County Sheriff’s office combined with multiple state police agencies and private security contractors” — “Mission,” “Execution” and “Logistics,” among other things. A packing list virtually mirrors the ones issued to soldiers preparing to deploy to the field (minus the weapons). But there are also parts of the document that read like a revolutionary manifesto. Under the section titled “Friendly Forces,” for example, the op order states, “we are there to put our bodies on the line, no matter the physical cost, in complete nonviolence to provide a clear representation to all Americans of where evil resides.”

The document was accompanied by a link to a GoFundMe campaign that has raised nearly $20,000 of its $100,000 goal since it was created on Nov. 11. The money, Clark Jr. says, will only be used for helping volunteers with transportation costs and then bailing those who are arrested out of jail.

Wood Jr. says the op-order was Clark Jr.’s idea, but the two men agree that organizing like a military unit is the smartest approach, especially because most of the people expected to join them on the ground have served.

“It’s simple and we have clearly defined goals, so people don’t get caught up in the confusion,” says Wood Jr., who served with the Baltimore Police Department for more than a decade. “One of the issues the police are going to face is that our level of planning and coordination is vastly superior to theirs, so they may end up with a problem when it comes to that.”

Here then is the plan: On Dec. 4, Clark Jr. and Wood Jr., along with a group of veterans and other folks in the “bravery business,” as Wood Jr. puts it — 500 total is the goal, but they’re hoping for more — will muster at Standing Rock. The following morning they will join members of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, including Young, for a traditional healing ceremony. With an eye toward the media, old military uniforms will be donned so that if the veterans are brutalized by the police, they are brutalized not as ordinary citizens, but as people who once served the government they are protesting against. Then body armor, ear plugs, and gas masks will be issued to those who didn’t bring their own. Bagpipes will play, and traditional Sioux war songs will be sung. The music will continue as everyone marches together to the banks of the Missouri, on the other side of which a line of guards in riot gear will be standing ready with rifles, mace, batons, and dogs. Then, the veterans and their allies — or at least the ones who are brave enough — will lock arms and cross the river in a “massive line” for their “first encounter” with the “opposing forces.” The goal is to make it to the drilling pad and surround it, arm in arm. That will require making it through the line of guards, who have repelled other such attempts with a level of physical force Sioux tribal members and protesters have described as “excessive” — claims that recently prompted a United Nations investigation. Of course, that’s what the body armor and gas masks are for.

“We’ll have those people who will recognize that they’re not willing to take a bullet, and those who recognize that they are,” says Wood Jr. “It’s okay if some of them step back, but Wes and I have no intention of doing so.”

Of course, as most veterans know full well, even the best plans go out the window the moment the shit hits the fan. It seems probable that the group will be met by fierce resistance from those charged with keeping people out of the construction site. Despite a recent decision by the Corps of Engineers to delay further work on the pipeline, Energy Transfer Partners is still hoping to complete the project by January. The segment that will cross beneath the Missouri at Standing Rock is the last major piece of the puzzle. Strengthening the resolve of the company’s executives is the fact that Energy Transfer Partners CEO Kelcy Warren donated more than $100,000 to elect Donald Trump, and Trump himself owns stock in the company. “I’m 100% sure that the pipeline will be approved by a Trump administration,” Warren told NBC News on Nov. 12.

Nonetheless, Clark Jr. and Wood Jr. remain undeterred. If anything, the likelihood of approval only makes them more determined. After all, this is war.

“The Joint Chiefs of Staff labeled the climate emergency as the number one security threat to the country, and they’ve been labeling it that for years,” Clark Jr. says. “All you need to do is put an overlay on any map in the world where there’s a water and crisis and you’re going to see massive political violence in that location. And unless we act, we’re going to be dealing with that exact same situation right here in the United States.”

Monsanto Losing Millions As Farmers In India Rebel, Plant Indigenous Seed

cotton-2

By Christina Sarich

India — Monsanto is losing millions on failed GM cotton. The company illegally pushed a form of Bt cotton into India and Africa more than a decade ago, but farmers are now pushing back by planting their own indigenous seed.

Monsanto is accused of writing laws and then breaking them to enter the market in India, but after more than 300,000 farmer deaths between 1995 and 2013, many of them attributed to Monsanto, the company is finally paying for their misdeeds. The corporation’s greed is linked to farmer suicides throughout Maharashtra, considered the ‘Cotton Belt’ in India.

The Indian government is now actively promoting the use of indigenous seed, and has called Monsanto out for profiteering illegally on Bt cotton seed.

Monsanto has already lost nearly $75 million in royalties this year (5 billion rupees) due to the change in seed choice by farmers. Sales in India have fallen by 15 percent, and though this is a relatively small market share, it is still making a huge impact on the company’s bottom line.

This could be the end of Monsanto, altogether, in India. Keshav Raj Kranthi, head of India’s Central Institute for Cotton Research said:

“Just wait for the crucial three to four years to see a complete, natural turnaround. By then most farmers will give up Bt cotton and go for the indigenous variety.”

Notably, Burkina Fasso in West Africa also recently rejected Monsanto’s Bt cotton seed after finding the seed produced a poor quality cotton that fetched low prices for the farmers who bothered to grow it.

While Monsanto argues that its genetically modified seed is better, many studies state that their comparisons were not looking at hybridized and indigenous seed (not GM seeds) that give better crop quality and higher yields.

Bt cotton is genetically modified seed which contains Bacillus thuringiensis, a bacterium that produces toxins harmful to a variety of insects, including, supposedly, bollworms that attack cotton; however, like weeds that have become impervious to RoundUp, many organisms become even stronger when introduced to genetic mutations of Mother Nature’s perfection. Monsanto even admits that insect resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis is ‘natural’ and ‘to be expected’.

Indeed, the indigenous varieties of cotton have fared better against the bollworm, whitefly, drought, and other dangers that cotton farmers face.

Monsanto (doing business in India as Mahyco Monsanto Business Limited) has even threatened to pull out of India completely, calling the bluff of a government who threatened to lower their royalties; but the government was undeterred, cut their seed royalties by 74 percent, and capped seed prices.

This will bring much relief to cotton farmers in India, but with 96 percent of India’s cotton crop being developed with Monsanto’s Bt cotton, it could take generations to recapture the indigenous crop completely, while bankrupting the corrupt Monsanto simultaneously.

As Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, India’s Junior Agricultural Minister has said of Monsanto, “The greed has to end.”

News Worth Celebrating: Megadam in the Heart of the Amazon Canceled!

Note: This victory was only made possible by the 1.2 million environmental activists & Earthkeepers around the world who participated in signing petitions protesting the construction of this megadam. So don’t believe the naysayers who say petitions are a waste of time, because they can really make a HUGE difference when we unite together en masse behind a cause. People power is one of the most powerful forces in the Universe!

Hence the reason “they” have created 1001 ways to divide us – fortunately the dark matrix is collapsing as humanity RE-Unites in heart and spirit!

Have a blessed weekend, aloha! Annette

Thanks to all of you — more than 1.2 million people — who stood with the Munduruku Indigenous people and made this victory possible!

© Rogério Assis / Greenpeace

This Wednesday, I had barely had breakfast when I was surprised by some absolutely amazing news: the Brazilian environmental agency — IBAMA announced it would cancel the process for licensing the São Luiz do Tapajós (SLT) megadam in the heart of the Amazon. Once my heart rate returned to normal, I started to call my colleagues and Munduruku leaders, seeking confirmation.

Today, it’s official: The Brazilian environmental agency has cancelled the São Luiz do Tapajós megadam. It’s time to celebrate this incredible news!

I would like to thank all of you — more than 1.2 million people around the world — who stood with the Munduruku Indigenous People to say no to the SLT dam and pressure multinational companies like Siemens to distance themselves from the project.

You made this victory possible!

Munduruku children playing in the rain in Sawré Muybu village. Sawré Muybu village serves as headquarters for the action on March 18th, 2016. A 20x30 meters banner is to be opened near the Tapajós river, protesting against the construction of dams in the region. Warriors from other villages and Greenpeace activists gather in the village. Guerreiros de outras aldeias e ativistas do Greenpeace chegam à aldeia. 15/03/2016. Foto: Rogério Assis/Greenpeace.

Over these last months we truly believed that sooner or later IBAMA would need to recognize the megadam project’s significant environmental and social impacts in the region. Now, with IBAMA’s decision, the approval process for the megadam cannot move forward.

Other Brazilian agencies like FUNAI (National Indigenous Foundation) and federal public prosecutors in the Brazilian state of Pará had recommended that IBAMA cancel the license because the project would displace Munduruku communities, making it unconstitutional. Part of the Munduruku Indigenous land called Sawré Muybu – an area in the process of been officially recognized as Indigenous Land – would have been flooded by the dam.

Now that the megadam’s license has been cancelled, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice must recognize its obligation and move swiftly to officially demarcate the Sawré Muybu territory.

Although, we are celebrating this incredible victory, we know there is a lot more to do to keep the Tapajós and other Amazon rivers free from hydrodams. Our campaign has not finished yet!

There are 42 other hydrodam projects planned in the Tapajós basin and hundreds earmarked across the Amazon rainforest – part of an aggressive economic model that doesn’t consider the critical importance of protecting the Amazon forest and its inhabitants. Previous dams build in the Amazon have negatively impacted local communities, devastated the environment and even been mired in corruption scandals.

We need to stop them, one by one!

The Brazilian government plans to build a series of dams in the Tapajós River basin, which would severely threaten the fauna, flora and life of the Indigenous people living along the river. O governo brasileiro pretende construir uma série de barragens na bacia do rio Tapajós, que ameaçam gravemente a fauna, a flora e a vida dos povos indígenas que vivem ao longo do rio.

There is another way.

Brazil must focus on truly renewable energy and become a world leader in wind and solar.

With the right investments, it is possible to generate the same amount of energy that dams like São Luiz do Tapájós would produce, by harnessing the power of wind and sun.

The global power structure has long since been waging a war against global populations on countless fronts. Vaccinations (now forced by law in some regions), and  the ongoing highly toxic covert climate engineering operations, are the two most direct assaults against human health. Whether injected through a hypodermic needle, or inhaled through the lungs, the sources of contamination to the human body are mounting rapidly and taking an immense toll on the population as a whole. GeoengineeringWatch.org is sponsoring and organizing a major public awareness event (and call to action) on Friday, August 5th, 2016, in Redding, California. There is no admission fee for this event, it is FREE, and there are no parking fees. My most sincere gratitude to all the dedicated activists, without whom the organizing of this event would not have been possible. The event will be staged in the heart of downtown Redding, at the historic Cascade Theater which seats over 1000.

10w

The Cascade Theater seats over 1000, and has full balcony seating.

A full day of film screenings, power point presentations, and Q & A sessions will begin at 9:45 am, when Dr. Sherri Tenpenny kicks off the event with her presentation “Vaccine Mandates: Adults Are Next”. The medical industrial complex will not relent in their campaign to force now proven unsafe vaccinations on the population.

11w

Dr. Sherri Tennpenny, vaccination safety expert.

At 11 am Dane Wigington from GeoengineeringWatch.org will present “Climate Engineering, The Covert Weather Warfare Assault”. Skies all over the globe are being saturated with highly toxic heavy metals and chemicals that are part of the ongoing climate engineering/geoengineering/solar radiation management assault on the environment and climate system. The human race (and the entire web of life) has been subjected to an unimaginably massive and lethal experiment without our knowledge or consent.

At 12:30 pm, former decorated CIA officer, Kevin Shipp, will present “Gagged: Government Secrecy and Silencing Whistleblowers”. Kevin is the author of the groundbreaking book “From The Company Of Shadows“, the shocking exposé of what is really going on behind close doors within the halls of our government’s institutions. He will highlight exactly what our government does to any that dare to tell the whole truth.

9w

Decorated former CIA officer, Kevin Shipp.

At 1pm, the first of two screenings of VAXXED, From Cover Up To Catastrophe, will commence.

At 2pm, the first VAXXED Q & A session will begin featuring a panel of experts including the director of VAXXED, Dr. Andrew Wakefield, the producers of VAXXED, Del Bigtree and Polly Tommey, and Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, internationally known vaccination safety expert.

Extensive free public parking is just across from the Cascade Theater on the North side of Placer Street. There are numerous dining establishments located a short walking distance from the theater.

The guest speakers at this event will be available on and off throughout the day in the lobby to answer questions individually. There will be an informational materials table which will supply FREE critical educational materials (on vaccination dangers and the climate engineering threat) to any that will try to put those materials to use. Educating others on the dire truths that our corporate owned criminal media institutions are not disclosing (and thus actually helping to hide) is absolutely essential. These materials will included commercial DVDs that thoroughly cover the climate engineering assault and have multiple menu presentations including the testimony of former government scientists. Attorneys from the GeoengineeringWatch.org legal team will also be present at the event to answer questions about the evolving legal action to expose and halt climate engineering.

The human race and the biosphere itself are at a most critical crossroad, where do we go from here? We invite all concerned and caring citizens to attend the Redding event, to increase their knowledge of what is unfolding around us all, and to learn what we can do to help turn the tide of insanity. We must not remain silent in the belief that someone else will cover the front line in the fight, this will not get the job done. All are needed to prioritize taking action in the essential effort to reach a critical mass of awareness, this is the only way forward in the fight. Make your voice heard in the battle to fully expose the truth, every day counts.

Murder of Environmental Activists Reaches New High ~ TheLipTV

Environmentalist were killed more this year than any other year on record, according to a new report from environmentalist watchdog Global Witness. The report found 185 killings across 16 countries in 2015. Almost 40% of the victims came from indigenous groups who were killed by private security, state forces and contract killers. The report found that the number one cause of violence is conflict over mining, followed by agribusiness, hydroelectric dams and logging. The assassination of Berta Caceres, a Honduran activist and Goldman Environmental Prize winner, made headlines last year when it was speculated that she was murdered in her bed by hitmen. The report has called for urgent action from governments, which have not only been complicit, but are often directly responsible for murdering activists. Joya Mia Italiano, Nik Zecevic and Elliot Hill take a closer look at the increasing attacks on environmentalists on the Lip News.

On the Anniversary of Cecil’s Death, House Democrats Target Trophy Hunting

Bio

It’s been nearly a year since an American hunter killed Cecil, an iconic lion in Zimbabwe. House Democrats are using the anniversary to question the premise that trophy hunting benefits Africa’s endangered wildlife.

In a new report called Missing the Mark, the Democratic staff of the House Committee on Natural Resources charges that Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Namibia, and South Africa are providing U.S. officials with little evidence that taxes and fees raised from trophy hunts targeting lions, leopards, elephants, and rhinoceroses provide conservation benefits and have an overall net-positive impact on imperiled species.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which has the authority to grant a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to American trophy hunters wishing to bring animal trophies into the country, has too often supported nations’ claims that the hunts enhance the survival of the species, the report charged.

“You can’t make the assumption that these countries are using the funds for conservation. You have to have the proof,” said Matt Strickland, a member of the committee’s Democratic staff. “U.S. hunters are responsible for taking a lot of animal trophies from Africa, and we want to make sure the Fish and Wildlife Service is doing its job in permitting trophy imports, and Americans aren’t contributing to the decline of certain species.”

American hunters wanting to import the heads, horns, pelts, or any other parts of animals they have killed overseas must request a permit from the Fish and Wildlife Service.

If the animal has threatened or endangered species protections under the Endangered Species Act, the agency requires that the hunt enhance the survival of the species. The agency is also responsible for managing U.S. compliance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, which regulates and permits the hunting of endangered species as well.

“On paper, all four countries examined have equally strong frameworks for ensuring that trophy hunts benefit species conservation,” the authors wrote. “Unfortunately, the implementation of these frameworks has in many cases been marred by corruption and has not produced the advertised and desired results.”

The Fish and Wildlife Service has sometimes turned a blind eye to these shortfalls and granted import permits for animals killed in these countries, said Strickland. “They accepted at face value that trophy hunting benefits wildlife conservation without drilling down and actually checking on individual cases,” he said.

An agency spokesperson stated in an email that the agency is reviewing the report, adding, “By law, we cannot and will not allow trophies of certain protected species into the United States that were hunted in any nation whose conservation program fails to meet high standards for transparency, scientific management and effectiveness. If we have concerns about a country’s management program or a species’ population status, we will not issue permits.”

One such case occurred in 2014, when the agency shut down imports of elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Tanzania because of the species’ marked population decline. “They also weren’t providing any evidence that the hunts were benefiting conservation, so Fish and Wildlife stopped allowing it,” Strickland said. “We’d like to see more of that type of decision making regularly.”

That’s the exception, not the norm, according to the report, which noted thousands of cases in which the Fish and Wildlife Service used special rules and loopholes to exempt hunters from permitting requirements for many species listed as endangered. The report authors found that between 2010 and 2014, the agency could have required permits for more than 2,700 hunting trophies imported to the county yet only required one, for a critically endangered black rhinoceros. Of 1,469 leopard trophies that could have mandated an import permit, the agency required none.

In other instances, such as the controversial baiting tactics that lured Cecil out of a protected area and led to his death at the hands of Walter Palmer, the trophy hunting industry isn’t “playing by the rules,” the report stated, and “needs to be regulated and held accountable for there to be any hope of a consistent conservation benefit.”

To help rein in the negative impacts of trophy hunting on wildlife, the report recommends that the Fish and Wildlife Service deny import requests from hunters convicted of wildlife violations, close loopholes that allow some trophies to be imported without permits, collect more data on trophy hunting through the permitting process, and increase permit fees to fund science and conservation.

Nature is unimaginably resilient, but when the breaking point is reached, collapse comes at blinding speed. The human race has already pushed the planet past the point of no return in countless ways, we are truly in uncharted territory. Is there any effort whatsoever on the part of those in power to slow the destruction of the biosphere? None. The race for resources and total control is worse than ever before, lines in the sand are being drawn all over the globe. Canada, India, and other regions around the world continue to incinerate. Oceans, reefs, kelp, and fish, continue to die. Coastal cities are pumping out from rising sea levels with sewage now filling the waters off Miami.

Brazil has just joined the list of democratically elected governments that have been ousted by western powers and interests in pursuit of more power and resources. There are yet more front-line signs of the coming crash of industrialized civilization, Caterpillar (the world’s largest equipment manufacturer) has just past the 41st consecutive month of declining sales. This is the real economy, the stock market is an illusion that will soon be shattered. Venezuela is still free-falling into total chaos while Americans remain largely asleep at the wheel. Even with the global climate disintegrating, how many are actually taking action?

What would happen if every single one of us put all our available effort and energy into the fight for the greater good? The most dire and potentially uniting issue on the planet is the fight to expose and halt the climate engineering assault, let’s all renew our efforts to sound the alarm.

Note: If you have any doubt about Dane’s feedback on the severity of climate change and the dire need for action, watch this. Among other Xtreme climate events, “unexplained explosions around the world” are a good indication the gaseous expulsion event is increasing at an exponential rate. Hold on to your hats and be prepared for anything, have a plan.

Maui Completely Stops Spraying RoundUp, Switches to Organic Herbicides

Note: Way to go Maui!!!

While this is a GREAT step forward in eradicating Round-up from Maui, unfortunately there’s no mention here of a complete ban. Meaning homeowners, business’s and agriculture will still be drenching the island in toxins.

But nonetheless, it’s a first step. Here on the Big Island, we’re fighting an uphill battle trying to pass similar legislation to ban Round-up from roadsides.

FYI..the chemical assault here is so bad, in 2013 a good friend  of mine witnessed the state spraying Agent Orange on foliage next to beach’s where people swim – the spray tank had a hazard warning that said Agent Orange…she couldn’t believe what she witnessed . Honestly, this BS makes my blood boil! It’s genocide in it’s most insidious form – silent and long acting so no one can point the finger at the state, or the manufacturers.

Much love, {~A~}

spraying-680x330

(UR) Maui, Hawaii — Maui’s State Department of Transportation just agreed not to spray Monsanto’s RoundUp along roadways. All purchases of the glyphosate-based, carcinogenic weed killer have been halted, according to Maui Mama. What’s more, the department is about to change the signs on all of their spray trucks to say “Certified Organic Herbicide.”

Beyond Pesticides has also agreed to teach county workers how to make the switch from the health-damaging RoundUp chemical applications to a non-toxic solution, FREE OF CHARGE. The county of Maui has yet to take the offer to heart, but with some world-wide support, they could be gently urged to do so.

Any move away from herbicide application in Hawaii is an enormous win for the people who live there, since the state has been treated as ground zero by companies like Monsanto, Syngenta, Bayer, BASF Plant Sciences, and Dow Chemical for the spraying of agricultural chemicals for genetically modified crop trials for decades now. Paradise has been poisoned for far too long, and Hawaii’s impeccable ecosystem is affected just as adversely as human health by the use of industrial pesticides and herbicides.

Just seven of the highly toxic chemicals most commonly used (including RoundUp) on the test fields has been linked to a variety of serious health problems ranging from childhood cognitive disorders to cancer.

Moreover, just recently, Hawaii residents were shocked to learn that the U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to spray carcinogenic and mutagenic toxins into the environment to eradicate fruit flies. It seems the spraying never ends — but there’s hope.

‘Up All Night’ Protests Sweep France as 100,000 Join Pro-Democracy Movement

A new European anti-government protest movement takes shape

By Pam Barker | TLB staff writer

Paris and other cities across France and Europe have been witnessing a new form of street demonstration since March 31. A so far leaderless movement called la Nuit Debout or Up All Night, protestors occupy a public space well into the night to discuss topics centered around social justice and the effects of neoliberal policies.

In a short interview given to Europe1 a few days ago, one of the movement’s participants, Gael Brustier, a graduate student in political science, notes how the movement started out simply as a demonstration against the government’s proposed reforms to the country’s Labor Code or Code du Travail, which seek to restrict certain workers’ rights. It has since naturally morphed into a generalized protest movement, notably by young people who have become increasingly disadvantaged by a declining jobs market and are no longer protected by a level of education. Combining seasoned activists and intellectuals with the rookie, the movement seeks a re-evaluation of a democratic system no longer serving people but fostering hardship and increasing levels of social inequality.

62insert3

It is quite indicative that the protest is arising under a so-called socialist government which, like all ‘left’ governments of today, is vigorously pursuing neoliberal austerity economics of the ‘right’ imposed by globalist institutions like the European Commission and the IMF. Indeed, the reforms to the Code du Travail or Labor Code have been ordered on the government by the Brussels’ globalists.

Enjoy Lauren McCauley’s informative article on this new protest movement.

‘Up All Night’ Protests Sweep France as 100,000 Join Pro-Democracy Movement
‘This movement was not born and will not die in Paris…It has no limit, no border and it belongs to all of those who wish to be part of it.’

by Lauren McCauley, staff writer

For twelve nights, protesters have occupied central Paris, and beyond, as part of the burgeoning Nuit Debout (or ‘Up All Night’) movement. Over the weekend protests were held in 60 cities across France, Germany, and Spain.

A police crackdown will not deter France’s burgeoning Nuit Debout (or ‘Up All Night’) movement that has swept across the country in recent weeks as the unifying call for change sparked protests in over 50 cities this weekend.

Riot police early Monday cleared the encampment in the Place de la Republique in central Paris after 11 nights of protest, but demonstrators have vowed to maintain their nightly vigil.

62insert1

Demonstrations this weekend were held in as many as 60 cities and towns across France as well as in Belgium, Germany, and Spain, according to reports, as an estimated 120,000 protested against austerity, globalization, increasing inequality, privatization, and the continent’s severe anti-migrant policies.
What began as a rebuke of the state’s anti-labor policies has grown into a nation-wide pro-democracy movement that has been likened to the Indignados movement in Spain, or the Occupy protests in the United States.

Reporting on the movement’s origins, the Guardian’s Angelique Chrisafis writes from Paris:

It began on 31 March with a night-time sit-in in Paris after the latest street demonstrations by students and unions critical of President François Hollande’s proposed changes to labour laws. But the movement and its radical nocturnal action had been dreamed up months earlier at a Paris meeting of leftwing activists.

“There were about 300 or 400 of us at a public meeting in February and we were wondering how can we really scare the government? We had an idea: at the next big street protest, we simply wouldn’t go home,” said Michel, 60, a former delivery driver. Protesters debate issues such as national security, housing and proposed changes to French labour law.

“On 31 March, at the time of the labour law protests, that’s what happened. There was torrential rain, but still everyone came back here to the square. Then at 9pm, the rain stopped and we stayed. We came back the next day and as we keep coming back every night, it has scared the government because it’s impossible to define.

“There’s something here that I’ve never seen before in France – all these people converge here each night of their own accord to talk and debate ideas – from housing to the universal wages, refugees, any topic they like. No one has told them to, no unions are pushing them on – they’re coming of their own accord.”

In a bid to appease the predominantly youth protesters, the French government on Monday announced €400-500 million in new student aid in the form of “subsidies for young graduates looking for a job and other aid for apprentices and students,” Reuters reports.

But that may not be enough as another protest has been announced for Monday evening.

62insert2

For months, ideological tensions have been on the brink of combustion across France and greater Europe, particularly in response to the European Union’s unpopular austerity economics and, more recently, the anti-migrant policies that have taken hold amid the larger crackdown on rights following the bombings in Brussels and Paris.

Meanwhile, observers are connecting France’s leftist upsurge with similar pro-democracy movements taking hold across Europe and the United States.

Indeed, a statement issued by the Nuit Debout public assemblies reads in part:

Our mobilization was initially aimed at protesting against the French Labour Law. This reform is not an isolated case, since it comes as a new piece in the austerity measures which already affected our European neighbors and which will have the same effects as the Italian Job Acts or the Reforma Laboral in Spain. This concretely means more layoffs, more precarity, growing inequalities and the shaping of private interests. We refuse to suffer this shock strategy, notably imposed in the context of an authoritarian state of emergency.

…This movement was not born and will not die in Paris. From the Arab Spring to the 15M Movement, from Tahrir Square to Gezi park, Republic square and the plenty of other places occupied tonight in France are depicting the same angers, the same hopes and the same conviction: the need for a new society, where Democracy, Dignity and Liberty would not be hollow shells.

“This movement is yours too,” the call for solidarity concludes. “It has no limit, no border and it belongs to all of those who wish to be part of it. We are thousands, but we can be millions.”

Democracy Spring: Hundreds of protesters arrested for non-violent sit-in and march on the US capitol

© Mark Wilson / Getty Images / AFP
Democracy Spring protesters participate in a sit-in at the U.S. Capitol to protest big money in politics, April 11, 2016 in Washington, DC.

Hundreds of Americans, many of whom are elderly, marched in support of political reform in Washington, DC, taking part in a sit-in and risking arrest as they pushed for fairer elections. RT’s “Redacted Tonight” host Lee Camp was detained as he reported from the scene.

Already, multiple arrests have been made, according to reports from those on the ground near the demonstrations.

According to RT’s correspondents, police have started releasing some of the protesters.

The sit-in comes one day after more than 400 people were arrested for participating in what has been been termed the “Democracy Spring” movement. The organization has planned for 10 days of demonstrations and mass sit-ins at the US capitol, with day two highlighting efforts from older Americans who want to see change.

“As ‘elders’ we have a moral imperative to care for and speak for future generations,” the Democracy Spring website reads. “We aim to use our wisdom and life experience to guide our actions, and stand together to create our legacy and reclaim our democracy.”

“Every voice is needed to speak up and say what we know is true – that a thriving and just democracy is the path towards a sustainable world for all children, for all life.”

As protesters marched on the US capitol, many elderly Americans held signs and chanted slogans such as: “Democracy is not for sale, [we’re] not too old to go to jail.”

“I’m not dead yet; I care deeply; I vote,” read another sign held by a demonstrator.

Social media users have reported seeing dozens of police officers out to keep an eye on the protesters and make arrests.

As part of its movement, Democracy Spring is pushing lawmakers to pass legislation that would boost the power of small campaign contributions, offer public funding for political candidates, and update the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in order to protect minority and lower-income voters at the polls.

The group is also calling for a constitutional amendment that would essentially overturn Supreme Court rulings giving corporations the ability to freely spend in elections. The amendment would end “the big money dominance of our elections and allows for Congress and the States to set overall limits on campaign spending, including prohibitions on corporate and union spending in the political process.”

Additionally, Democracy Spring wants to see Congress hold hearings and vote on filling the vacancy on the Supreme Court. The group does not have a position on whether President Barack Obama’s nomination of Judge Merrick Garland should be approved, but it does want the Senate “to fulfill its constitutional duty to hold hearings so that the American people may learn more about his positions on campaign finance and voting rights and, ultimately, take an up or down vote on the nominee.”

Media Silent as Massive Protest in D.C. Fills Jails Beyond Capacity

Nathan Wellman | April 11, 2016

Initial reports suggest that hundreds of protesters are being arrested outside Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., right now for participating in a peaceful demonstration against corporate money in politics.

kx5k02t96dleh7ht

With over 53,000 tweets, #DemocracySpring is trending on Twitter and on Facebook, and the protest is still unfolding. However, some noted that even with a massive outcry, mainstream media coverage was nowhere to be found.

SEE TWEETS & VIDEO’S

The protesters arrived at the U.S. Capitol Building in D.C. after marching 150 miles from the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia over the course of a week as a part of the Democracy Spring campaign. Upon arriving, they engaged in a peaceful sit-in outside the Capitol, with the goal of staying there for another week.

The Democracy Spring website says the campaign’s goal is to “demand a Congress that will take immediate action to end the corruption of big money in our politics and ensure free and fair elections in which every American has an equal voice.” Furthermore, their proposals include support of the Government by the People Act & Fair Elections Now Act, the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2015 & Voter Empowerment Act of 2015; and the Democracy for All Amendment.

The website reports that over 3,600 people have pledged to take part in this act of civic disobedience, though a final number has yet to be confirmed. Police were quickly called to the scene, and they began arresting people not even an hour after the protest begun.

Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks took part in the sit-in, saying “They can arrest us today and they can arrest us tomorrow, but we’re gonna keep coming back. They can’t arrest the whole country.”

Despite the arrests, the mood of the sit-in remains peaceful and even celebratory. Police reported that the protest has resulted in a record number of arrests at the US Capitol.

Meanwhile, activists around the country have taken to Twitter to show their support.

The sit-in is scheduled to last until April 18th, with more people planning to bus in throughout the course of the week, so it’s safe to say that more arrests are on the way.

If the police can figure out where to put everybody.
