For the past three years, Greenpeace Brazil has been collecting signatures in support of a bill to establish a zero deforestation law in the country. As a result, the group were able to present draft legislation to the Brazilian congress last week

On 7 October, accompanied by senators, religious leaders, celebrities and other supporters of a ban on the felling of Brazil’s forests, Greenpeace Brazil formally presented the draft legislation to the Brazilian congress – signed by 1.4 million Brazilians.

“We submit this bill to congress and now it’s time for them to reflect on the will of the people,” Cristiane Mazzetti of Greenpeace Brazil said in a statement.

“There is enough space for development without cutting down more of our forests,” said Mazzetti. “Democracy is strengthened by ensuring access to natural resources for everyone, for our generation and future generations. This is why stopping the destruction of our forests is essential.”

The annual rate of Amazon forest loss in Brazil has slowed by 75 percent since the early 2000s, but roughly 5,000 square kilometres (1.2 million acres) of rainforest is still destroyed every year. Greenpeace says that’s the equivalent of 700,000 football pitches. Even some lawmakers joined the group in saying that it’s time for the country to make it official policy that economic development activities not be undertaken at the expense of the Amazon rainforest.

“Democracy is strengthened by ensuring access to natural resources for everyone, for our generation and future generations. This is why stopping the destruction of our forests is essential.”

“I signed the petition in 2012 and I admit that I was anxious to see it completed,” senator João Capiberibe said in a statement. “This is certainly an important step towards the objective of zero deforestation in Brazil and then beginning a new project for developing the country, one that is not based on environmental destruction.”

A recent analysis by Paulo Moutinho of the Amazon Environmental Research Institute and Steve Schwartzman of the Environmental Defense Fund supports Greenpeace’s assertion that zero deforestation is entirely possible for Brazil to achieve without foregoing economic growth.

“Brazil succeeded in reducing Amazon deforestation by more than 80 percent since 2005 while maintaining robust growth in beef and soy production,” Moutinho and Schwarzman write. “There are at least about 56,000 km² of degraded cattle pasture in the Amazon that can be reclaimed for agriculture, as well as ample scope for intensifying cattle raising and improving yields, freeing up even more land.”

Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff has pledged to eliminate illegal deforestation and restore 12 million hectares (about 30 million acres) of forest by 2030 as part of broader efforts to combat climate change, itself a major threat to the wellbeing of tropical rainforests the world over.

But zero illegal deforestation by 2030 is a “considerably less ambitious goal” than many Brazilian states have already proposed for themselves, Moutinho and Schwarzman say.

Pará, for example, a major agricultural state, has adopted a target of 80 percent deforestation reduction by 2020 and zero net deforestation thereafter. And Acre state, which still retains nearly 90 percent of its original forest cover, is “already implementing the most ambitious and successful system of payment for environmental services in the tropical world focusing on forest conservation,” Moutinho and Schwarzman write.

Greenpeace and other forest advocates, like bishop Guilherme Antônio Werlang, want Brazil’s federal government to take those ambitious efforts as examples and commit to swifter action to end deforestation of the Amazon altogether.

“We have to change the economic model and create the Brazil that we want,” Werlang said in Greenpeace’s statement about the delivery of the zero deforestation bill to congress. “It is an important time for us to continue to press forward, not only for small changes, but to consider a profound change.”

The Return Of Common Law – The People Take Back The Republic

These powerful words written so long ago, still resonate deeply within the souls of Americans. Were they created by the minds of ordinary men, or were they divinely inspired? Perhaps both. But just as the meaning and inspiration held in many profound ancient texts have been misinterpreted or forgotten, the Declaration of Independence appears to have been lost in the sands of time.

In this case, the reasons are more than simply the natural evolution of a “civilization.” Through careful and purposeful orchestration, the people have been guided to follow an alternate system of government. But somehow, the words and meaning have not lost their impact, even now after their very basic tenets have been violated by the sprawling system of government that has overtaken the “rights” of the “people.”

Why a Republic vs. Democracy

The founding fathers of the united States of America, with their great declaration, intended for the existence of a Republic, a term most people today don’t even fully understand. You may have noticed that the letter “u” in “united” is not capitalized. This is done intentionally to point out that the original united States, were not a single corporate entity or “country.” Each of the States in the union was an independent sovereign country unto itself, with its people choosing to cooperate as one unified body with the other states to provide strength and stability. But the people of the modern day “United States” (uppercase “U”), have been led to believe that those original systems no longer exist, and that the United States is one “Nation” to which each “person” is obligated. But nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, each State still exists as an independent sovereign country, and what we all know as “The United States” (upper case “u”) actually only amounts to 68.3 square miles known as Washington DC, USA. If you are “domiciled” and a “resident” within those 68.3 miles, then you are a “citizen” of the United States of America. The rest of Americans are “domiciled’ in the state where they maintain their primary home. Therefore, those who do not legally claim to be “residents” or “citizens” of The United States, even if they are “domiciled” and were born within the 50 states, are not. It is your acceptance of this fictional legal label that places you under the legal “jurisdiction” and therefore ruler “ship” (Maritime Admiralty Law) of the United States.

While leaders tout the “Democratic” system of government, the people have been deceived into believing that this is a system of their own choosing that provides the most freedom, completely unaware that a Democratic system closely resembles an Oligarchical system of government.

In a Republic, the government gets its power from the people. In a Democracy, the government rules of its own free will, and in turn, gives its citizens limited “privileges” under which they may live. Democracies are therefore prone to “Corporate” rule as is clearly evident in the United States and most other countries in the world. In such a system, whoever has the most money and therefore power, rules the people. You can just imagine how many injustices can befall the people in such a system.

Not a Country, a Corporation

How do you know that the United States is not a Country, but a corporation? It’s so simple that it has been completely overlooked by most people; every corporation is required to have a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Many also choose to have Dun & Bradstreet corporate numbers (DUNS). Independent states of the union do not have these titles by comparison, although they all are now also incorporated.

DUNSCitizens of the United States are also incorporated, hence the uppercase name on all legal documents designating your legal corporate fiction and the associated Cestui Que Vie Fund attaching a financial value on your body and issued at the time of obtaining a Birth Certificate. So what is the difference between a Democracy and a Republic? Primarily it is the legal system. A Democracy primarily follows “Statutory Law” whereas the original Republic of The united States followed “Common Law” or “Natural Law.” The following examples will better illustrate the vast differences.

Aided by statutory law, Monsanto, the Genetically Engineered Seed company, has gained a reputation for fraudulent lawsuits against small farmers in order to force the adoption of their patented GMO seeds, by claiming that these farms are responsible for seeds that contaminate their farmland from neighboring GMO “licensed” farms. Under the same legal system, the IRS can take away a family’s home for failure to pay taxes, which actually don’t in any way go toward the benefit of the people, but into the hands of a few who own the Federal Reserve Bank. Under this system, the government, instead of printing its own currency, has become a slave to the privately held Federal Reserve Bank which is anything but “Federal.” We live in a country where our leaders, who are responsible for wars, and the suffering of so many, experience unlimited wealth and freedom, while the rest of the people spend years in prison and are subject to fines for nonpayment of taxes or driving without a license. Is this how a free and enlightened society conducts itself? Is this the kind of world you want to live in, or to have your children grow up in?

Where Do We Go from Here

While on the surface it may seem as if all hope is lost, the world, and especially the united States, are in a time of revolutionary change. Never before in our current history, have so many breakthrough changes been apparent. Along with the breakthroughs in technology, health and consciousness, we are also seeing changes in the Nation’s legal system…a return to a better system of justice… a return to Common Law. In all 50 States of the union, there is a massive grassroots movement toward the reinstatement of Common Law. Already, New York, Florida, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey and New Hampshire have Common Law Grand Juries constituted in every county. In other States such as Michigan, where this writer is personally involved, the movement is rapidly making progress. An increasing number of county Sheriffs throughout the united States are also siding with this movement, providing for the necessary enforcement of the decisions of the newly established Common Law Grand Juries. This is the most promising and important thing happening in the world at this time. This single small idea stands a chance in changing everything for the better and will impact every facet of our lives within a very short time.

How Does Common Law Change the Way We Govern

Under a system of “Common Law,” the original foundation of the united States of America, every individual has “unalienable rights.” This is not the same as “civil rights” or “privileges” as is the case of the statutory law based Democratic system of government. Unalienable rights are not rights given to the “people” by government, but are given to them by their Creator. Therefore these are rights that cannot be granted or taken away by government or by “corporations.”

In such a system, a corporation such as Monsanto, cannot sue a farmer, because the rights of the farmer supersede those of a corporation, which has no rights over the “people.” In such a system, the IRS holds no power to take away someone’s home, because to do so would be to infringe on the rights of the individual. Under common law, the remedy for any breach of the law would be reflective of the law that was broken. And, individuals who do things that cause no harm to another individual would not be considered to have broken the law.

In some States, there are now laws against the collection of rainwater by homeowners and businesses. Some violators of this law have been forced to purchase rainwater rights from their government for the “privilege” of collecting water that falls on their own property. Under Common Law, such a limitation on the freedom of people would not exist simply at the whim of government, without concrete evidence that collecting rainwater on one’s own property harms another individual.

However, if one of our appointed leaders caused harm to others, the punishment would be reflective of the crime, and it is the people who would determine whether a law has been broken, as well as the appropriate and fair remedy.

Can you imagine a world that is governed by Common or Natural Law? Can you imagine a world where our leaders answer to the people who are in their care? Can you imagine a world where people, not corporate entities, determine the direction of our future? This is no longer a dream, but rapidly becoming a reality…Today.

Change Agents And Reality Creation by Dr. Nick Begich

Reprinted from Earthpulse Flashpoints, Series 1 Number 1.

This is an article about what can be done to awaken our own potency as individuals and seize some level of control over the world we outwardly face. The idea of recognition of our own potentials in creating and shaping the reality we live within is fundamental to our success as created beings. This article is written as a “how-to” for creating changes in the world of politics.

This article is intended to give some practical ways to affect part of the reality we collectively form…politics. The article is further intended to develop a perceptual view toward change and provide practical tools for pursuing a change agenda. The information presented can be selectively applied and may be modified to meet local conditions and specific situations within democracies. It is hoped that the ideas being presented will give readers tools which are useful in altering political outcomes. The article is based on the experience of the writer in political and union organizing but can be applied to many other types of group interactions.

Fear and Conspiracy

It is disturbing to see the increase in general paranoia because of government over-control. A good deal has been asserted by many individuals about the political, social, economic and banking “conspiracies”. Many of these reports accurately reflect factual observations and should be considered a significant cause for concern. Moreover, thinking people should attempt to “course correct” the wayward road our democracies have been traveling as special interests continue to dominate political outcomes at all levels. Democracies have deteriorated in many respects as a result of apathy coupled with power interest’s domination of the machinery of political systems – special interest politics. This article is written to offer an alternative approach to the agenda of fear which has become the predominate symptom, and the outgrowth, of conspiratorial awareness.

The difficulty in most of what has been written about the “conspiracy” is it is based on facts which are colored by fear. The stories generally begin with some observation on the part of the writer that brings one to the conclusion that we are being sold out, manipulated or played like a good violin by some unknown virtuoso. After the initial observation, the writer pursues a line of research which leads to the uncovering of more details leading to a stronger conviction that there is a “unseen hand” plotting to slap us all around a bit. The conclusion that all of these observations, in the smallest detail, are the result of some infinitely detailed conspiracy is difficult for many to swallow.

Is it a conspiracy by default or by design? Is it a conspiracy built through those little cubicles of chance, through synchronicity, or is it built by the evil Machiavellian plan of some black-hatted villain? It is, perhaps, a combination of some planned activities combined with synchronistic happenings.

The recognition of the problem of over control can become a trap for the observer. The observer becomes changed, and no longer functions out of confidence and intellectual curiosity but, rather, gets pulled into a vortex of fear. What is meant here is that once the problem is recognized and confirmed by research, the response becomes one of fear and frenzy to inform the world. In so doing, all the world sees is a raving glassy eyed fanatic who is a brick short of a full load. Fear is the clue we are moving in the wrong direction. The discovery that we have been deceived is disheartening, at a minimum. Today’s deceit discovered becomes tomorrow’s conspiracy disclosed. Fear motivated course corrections cause problems for all concerned with these issues. An alternative is required which builds the strength of people and creates change in a positive direction. Rather than fear a forward confident push for change is needed.

Any time two people get together to plan anything, it can be said that they are engaging in a conspiracy. Most human interactions can be characterized as conspiratorial in that they require the cooperation of more than one individual in creating an outcome and someone likely will judge the action contrary to their interests. There is seldom full agreement on anything. All things, not yet realized, will likely emerge out of conflicting efforts. Conflicts can be resolved intelligently. This must be an accepted premise worked under if positive change is expected. It could be said that all are participants in an “open conspiracy” to see our version of reality created around us. This is what we each do with each action we engage in…assert our will into reality.

Certain circumstances lend themselves to government interference and intervention. These kinds of circumstances can be made increasingly worse by people who are acting out of fear. If we engage in the kinds of activity fear creates, we will become reactionary and subject ourselves to more controls by government at a time when most of the population remains unaware of the erosion of their basic rights. Some engaged in the conflict have decided that armed marches on government offices, withholding tax payments to the government or hiding out in some remote place “armed to the teeth” in wait for the attack by the brown-shirted new age Nazis is the answer. What value are these kinds of reactions? Do they further the cause of democracy, of liberty, of freedom, or do these reactions become self-imposed prisons of fear? We must seek more productive ways of addressing the problem with confidence. Confidence can be gained through the knowledgeable development and implementation of plans to create change. Confidence can replace fear.

In thinking about the types and nature of decisions people make when acting out of fear, it is clear that the decisions are not generally the best ones made. The fear agenda is a death agenda, in that it robs individuals of creative vitality by focusing energy into self preservation. Fear leads to the amplification of base emotions and animal instincts, i.e. survival-of-the-fittest thinking. Fear is not the right frame of reference for change. Where does the fear come from when looking at the conspiracy agenda? It comes from a basic sense of no control over the important events that shape our individual lives or the lives of those close to each of us.

A Philosophy of Change

Anything can be changed under the right circumstances. Political activity can always be changed by those with the will for change. In this article I refer to those moving their agendas forward as “change agents”. The idea of the change agent keeps one focused, to a degree, on the self-created mission. Maintaining a self concept of change assists in actualizing change.

Sometimes we forget what makes up a great democracy and how easy it is to lose it when we’re not paying attention, we all looked away for almost 30 years while involved with self centered pursuits. While neoconservative think tanks lurking in the shadows had another agenda for the country and have been moving the political “attitude” ever so slowly to the faaaarrrrrr right ever since (Cheney’s PNAC Project for a New American Century). Now we wake up and the signs a fascist control are bearing down hard with an emerging surveillance and police state the likes of which Nazi Germany could’ve only dreamed of.  At this time the U.S. faces a critical crossroads that can lead us down one of two paths. So it makes a big difference that we pay attention to exactly who our candidates are a serving: our best interests or the corporate elite. The 2012 election we literally will being making the choice between taking the road toward fascism or democracy, in an election that will set the tone for an entire generation.

For example, eugenics is posing serious ethical questions. Absolutely no one who protects the rights over the military industrial complex, or serves the interests of corporations over the rights of citizens should EVER be trusted to serve the best interests of the people. This very short video leaked from the Pentagon, shows how the have the technology now to kill the “God” gene – in “radical Muslims” of course…right, then who’s next? Why is this kind of research even allowed when it poses very serious moral and ethical implications?

Please take time to watch this very important short documentary on the radicalization of the Republican and Libertarian right wing. This should help people better understand the 30 year plan being implemented behind the scenes since Reagan took office and a plan that’s now coming to fruition. A small group of billionaires are all tied in with the same group that also owns mass media – our messenger – so that the right-wing conservatives have been controlling the message for so long that most Americans are like a frog in a boiling pot and haven’t been aware of the slow insidious shift to the far right end of the political spectrum.


Funny thing, while conservatives yell and scream about socialism and communism taking root under Obama,  why don’t they recognize the fascism that already has a stranglehold on our democracy from the right wing.  Ahhh maybe they haven’t been taught that fascism is when corporations have control of the reigns of power in government. This time it’s been bought and it’s exactly what’s been going on for 30 years with the Koch brothers cabal, as fascism has taken firm hold of the GOP and Republican right wing of American politics.


Honestly, the venomous hatred toward Obama isn’t unprecedented in the modern era American politics. They called Clinton a rapist, a murderer and all kinds of things.  Right now all of the hatred toward Obama is a product of Koch brothers money and their grab for power, it’s probably also fueled with racism too. Yes, Obama has been a disappointment in many respects but our democracy and the government that represents is broke. The right wing has promised to destroy him by destroying America, by preventing anything good from happening that would turn the economy in the right direction. Like a JOBS BILL!!! For Gods sake people need to wake up to the manipulation from the Republicons and the fact they haven’t done one good thing for this country in 30 years!! They play politics real good, but the right wing doesn’t have a clue how to govern while representing the best interests of the people, the party #1 in betraying the public trust. Hell each time they leave office they leave the country in a deficit, but democrats leave it in a surplus.


Factually speaking 100% of Republicans and about 40% of Democrats are completely sold out to corporate interests, all they care about is your vote and you as an individual can go to hell for all they’re concerned. Oh and if they can find a way to shake you or you’re dying grandmother down for money, they’ll stand in line for that.


Waking up means educating yourself with facts, this isn’t about anything personal or “us vs them”. We’re all going through are own paradigm shift right now, a process that’s re-orienting our point of perspective so that we may all move forward together in unity – as opposed to the division that was forced on us long ago.  It’s about understanding and taking the side of the truth whether we like it or not, because it’s the right thing to do.


Also take time to learn about ALEC how they’re selling your public service job to the highest bidder and have designed cookie cutter legislation, made state politicians sign oaths to abide by them – and if they don’t abide they will be primaried and voted out in the next election.  And you can even research out these personal threats from Grover Norquist to do so.

n the first half, author and researcher Steve Quayle offered commentary on current events and global turmoil. There are many disruptive earth changes all converging this month such as volcanoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, and fires, he said, adding that the quakes in Colorado and the East Coast were rather anomalous. Strange sounds or hums have been heard in Kiev, as well as in Colorado before the quake, and he connected them with the possible use of what he called “shockwave weapons.” There’s a lot of manipulation going on, and “there is technology that can not only steer or direct hurricanes, but can initiate volcanoes and earthquakes,” according to two former Secretaries of Defense, Quayle cited.

The New World Order has a goal to depopulate the planet, possibly using contagions, as well as a plan to sink the economy, he said, adding that both the Euro and US dollar are going to be heavily devalued. He also talked about Henry Gruver’s vision of an invasion of America by the Russians. Further, Quayle said that his sources told him there could be a devastating EMP attack on the US that will occur between 9/11/11 and 11/11/11.

Are Republicans Committing Treason?

The Republican Party no longer has Americans’ best interests at heart, and we are suffering because of it.

Once upon a time, in a land that now seems to have been populated by tooth fairies and unicorns, there was a political party that had a set of core beliefs to which they actually adhered.

Among them was that actually balancing the budget, as opposed to just talking about it, was sacrosanct. Slow change, while necessary, had to be balanced against the traditions of the United States, ones that had mostly served us well over two centuries.

Foreign military adventures should be limited to our national security interests. And one of the single most important components of diplomacy was protecting the economic interests not only of an elite few, but of the great many Americans who toiled in our factories and fields.

This party was known as the Republican Party, and while one might have disagreed with them on their policy prescriptions to cure any particular US ill, one could at least see some logic in their beliefs and understand that they – with some obvious exceptions from time to time (ahem, Joseph McCarthy, ahem) – were doing what they thought was right for the United States of America.

Today, this once respectable organization has turned into nothing so much as a collective id the size of a David Vitter Pampers shopping spree. When facing changes to this nation that make them uncomfortable, they choose national hate. When facing ideological worship versus the greatness of the US, the former always wins the day. When facing a choice of what is good for the US or their personal bank accounts, they inevitably go with the latter.

Every. Single. Time.

In simple terms: We, the people of the United States, are the maid. The GOP is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Any questions?

The one caveat is that it’s not Republicans, so much as the forces of the anti-American, gun-toting, religious and corporate Right that have taken over the GOP who are responsible for papa’s brand new bag. The Right is Darth Sidious to the GOP’s Anakin Skywalker, Angelina Jolie to foreign-born children.

And yes, sadly, the Dark Lord has also sunk his hooks into quite a few in the Democratic Party, just somewhat less in number and relevance.

Charter members of this anti-American Right include the National Rifle Association, whose executive vice president-cum-Waldo impersonator, Wayne LaPierre, pushes new and more deadly weaponry into the hands of American criminals and terrorists without a first thought of the common good of his country. Giddily referring to US law enforcement agents as “jack-booted thugs”, and using fear of a black president to encourage the militia mentality among his most deranged (and armed) followers, his reign at the NRA has facilitated their retreat into revolutionary rhetoric, which has included plans by associated paramilitary groups to kill police officers and government officials.

Not so good for the US, but great for selling weapons to support LaPierre’s $1.27m salary, as well as NRA board members who earn a paycheck by owning companies that pay their bonuses based on firearm sales.

It also includes the “pro-business” Right’s support for finishing a four-decade quest to hollow out US manufacturing and destroy what was once, as succinctly put by polymath and top-rated progressive radio host Thom Hartmann, “the American way of life”. A few elite moneymen get rich, while the United States’ ability to create things that don’t come with fries or an apple pie, once a source of great pride to, you know, Americans, has gone off clubbing with Casey Anthony.

No political will to fix US infrastructure

Last week, China broke the record for the longest sea bridge in the world with the opening of the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge. Quite symbolically, it passed Louisiana’s Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, which had previously held the record.

You’d think that this, in and of itself, would pain those on the Republican Right and their friends among the Blue Dog Democrats, “patriots” who never hesitate to tout American greatness. But for some reason – perhaps campaign contributions make a soothing bubble bath? – their refusal to fund the slightest hint of improvement or addition to US infrastructure is allowing it to collapse quicker than John Boehner at an all-you-can-drink Margarita marathon at Bahama Mama’s.

We used to make big things in the US, often with direct government investment. Whether it was the federal highway system, the Sears Tower, or the Golden Gate Bridge – these were not small undertakings. It was a proven method of creating jobs and wealth, as well as a source of national pride.

These days, it’s the historical blindness and hatred of any spending contained in a philosophy that underpins simplistic calls for “austerity”. Contained in budgets written by small-minded men such as Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, it has seen corporate cybernetic organisms posing as legislators do what once would have been unthinkable: pave the way for Chinese exceptionalism.

US slipping in quality-of-life indicators

Yet perhaps right-wingers’ work to undermine America is nowhere as evident as it is in the everyday indicators of how we are doing as a country. Whether it is the World Health Organization’s ranking the US in 37th place, our impressive 33rd place in children’s ability to navigate math and science, or 39th place in our environmental quality (we’re still two spots ahead of Cuba!), I simply don’t understand how one can claim to love the US and blithely ignore or work to exacerbate these indicators by gutting government every day.

But then again, what should we expect from a movement whose leaders, such as that dimwitted dolt known as Texas Governor Rick Perry, openly discuss secession? Or, as I pointed out in last week’s column, the blood diamond-accruing conman Pat Robertson, who has wished Sodom-like destruction on the United States, because gay couples in New York now have the right to marry?

Secession? Destruction? There used to be a term to describe people who wished these tragedies would befall their own country. Today that term is “Republican presidential candidate”, whether from the recent past (Robertson in 1988) and potentially – God help us – the future (Perry in 2012).

Lest one think this list is biased, I have not even gone into the details of the outing of an undercover CIA agent (see Karl Rove) or the Right’s current crusade to make the US default on its debt (and Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s incentive to profit off of this, as he has shorted US treasury bonds in his personal investment portfolio).

Humorist and writer Leo Rosten once said that “a conservative is one who admires radicals centuries after they’re dead”. Today, however, the love for radicals and radicalism is alive and kicking on the Right, and sadly for the US, it doesn’t seem ready to die anytime soon.
