Delphi, Greece: The Bellybutton of the Ancient World

“What really went on at the ancient Greek oracle at Delphi, how did it get its awesome reputation and why is it still influential today?

“Michael Scott of Cambridge University uncovers the secrets of the most famous oracle in the ancient world. A vital force in ancient history for a thousand years, it is now one of Greece’s most beautiful tourist sites, but in its time it has been a gateway into the supernatural, a cockpit of political conflict, and a beacon for internationalism. And at its heart was the famous inscription which still inspires visitors today – ‘Know Thyself’.

The Sibyls

Erythraean Sybil, by Michelangelo (Sistine Chapel)  Cumean Sybil, by Michelangelo (Sistine Chapel)

Long before the Savior was born of the Virgin, and up to around the time of His first Advent, there are said to have lived wise women who inhabited shrines, temples, and caves, and who, being blessed “by the gods” with the gift of prophecy, read the signs of nature in order to foretell the future. We call these seers “Sibyls,” after the Greek word for prophetess (“sibulla”).Our knowledge of the origins of these women is obscured by the mists of myth and time, the first written record of them coming from Heraclitus, who wrote of one — perhaps the only one at the time — in a fragment dating to the 6th century before Christ. It reads:

The Sibyl, with frenzied mouth uttering things not to be laughed at, unadorned and unperfumed, yet reaches to a thousand years with her voice by aid of the god.

The number of these Sibyls is reckoned differently throughout the ages, with Heraclitus and Plato mentioning one, the Greeks mentioning nine, the Romans and early Christians mentioning ten, and medieval Christians enumerating up to twelve. Whatever their number, the Sibyls most often came to be referred to by the places they inhabited. The Christian apologist, Lactantius (b. ca. A.D. 250) listing ten Sibyls, describes them thus in Book I, Chapter VI of his “Divine Institutes” (link to full text below):

  • the Persian Sibyl: “of her Nicanor made mention, who wrote the exploits of Alexander of Macedon”
  • the Libyan Sibyl: “of her Euripides makes mention in the prologue of the Lamia”
  • the Delphic Sybil: “concerning whom Chrysippus speaks in that book which he composed concerning divination”
  • the Cimmerian Sibyl: “whom Naevius mentions in his books of the Punic war, and Piso in his annals”
  • the Samian Sibyl: “respecting whom Eratosthenes writes that he had found a written notice in the ancient annals of the Samians”
  • the Hellespontine Sibyl: “born in the Trojan territory, in the village of Marpessus, about the town of Gergithus; and Heraclides of Pontus writes that she lived in the times of Solon and Cyrus”
  • the Phrygian Sibyl: “who gave oracles at Ancyra”
  • the Tiburtine Sybil: “by name Albunea, who is worshipped at Tibur [modern Tivoli] as a goddess, near the banks of the river Anio, in the depths of which her statue is said to have been found, holding in her hand a book. The senate transferred her oracles into the Capitol.”
  • the Erythraean Sybil: “whom Apollodorus of Erythraea affirms to have been his own country-woman, and that she foretold to the Greeks when they were setting but for Ilium, both that Troy was doomed to destruction, and that Homer would write falsehoods”
  • the Cumaean Sibyl: “by name Amalthaea, who is termed by some Herophile, or Demophile and they say that she brought nine books to the king Tarquinius Priscus, and asked for them three hundred philippics, and that the king refused so great a price, and derided the madness of the woman; that she, in the sight of the king, burnt three of the books, and demanded the same price for those which were left; that Tarquinias much more considered the woman to be mad; and that when she again, having burnt three other books, persisted in asking the same price, the king was moved, and bought the remaining books for the three hundred pieces of gold: and the number of these books was afterwards increased, after the rebuilding of the Capitol; because they were collected from all cities of Italy and Greece, and especially from those of Erythraea, and were brought to Rome, under the name of whatever Sibyl they were.”

The prophecies of these pagan Sibyls — most especially the Tiburtine, Erythraean, and Cumaean Sibyls, who are often confused with one another or referred to as one — play interesting roles in Christian History. One sees depictions of the Sibyls in Catholic art — from altar pieces to illuminated manuscripts, from sculpture to even the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, the periphery of which is dominated by five Sybils (the Delphic, Cumaean, Libyan, Persian, and Erythraean) interspersed with seven Old Testament Prophet (Zacharias, Isaias, Daniel, Jonas, Jeremias, Ezechiel, and Joel). Michelangelo’s Erythraean and Cumean Sibyls are shown at the top of this page in listed order, and Van Eyck’s Ghent altarpiece depictions of those same women, in the same order, are shown below.

Erythraean Sibyl, by Van Eyck (Ghent altarpiece)Cumaean Sibyl, by Van Eyck (Ghent altarpiece)

These women are often depicted in medieval dramas, Jesse Trees and Nativity scenes. One hears of the Sibyls in Catholic chant and hymns, too: on Christmas Eve, after Matins and before Mass, the Song of the Sibyl was sung all over Europe until the Council of Trent (now this custom, restored in some places in the 17th c., remains mostly in Spain). 1 They are most famously mentioned in the “Dies Irae,” sung at Masses for the dead. Its opening lines:

Dies irae, dies illa,
solvet saeculum in favilla,
teste David cum Sibylla.
That day of wrath, that dreadful day,
shall heaven and earth in ashes lay,
as David and the Sybil say.

Who were these women whom Christians group with King David and the great Old Covenant Prophets? Why did Tertullian (b. ca. A.D. 160) describe one Sibyl as “the true prophetess of Truth”? 2 Why would St. Clement of Alexandria (d. ca. A.D. 215) describe a Sibyl thus in Chapter VIII of his “Exhortation to the Heathens”:

Let the Sibyl prophetess, then, be the first to sing to us the song of salvation —

“So He is all sure and unerring: Come, follow no longer darkness and gloom; See, the sun’s sweet-glancing light shines gloriously. Know, and lay up wisdom in your hearts: There is one God, who sends rains, and winds, and earthquakes, Thunderbolts, famines, plagues, and dismal sorrows, And snows and ice. But why detail particulars? He reigns over heaven, He rules earth, He truly is.”

— where, in remarkable accordance with inspiration she compares delusion to darkness, and the knowledge of God to the sun and light, and subjecting both to comparison, shows the choice we ought to make. For falsehood is not dissipated by the bare presentation of the truth, but by the practical improvement of the truth it is ejected and put to flight.

Let’s look, one at a time, at the three Sibyls who are most important to Christianity.

The Tiburtine Sibyl:
The Sibyl of Christmas

The Tiburtine Sibyl — also known as Albunea — lived in Tibur, the town now known as Tivoli and located about fifteen miles Northeast of Rome. Her temple, which still stands today, was surrounded by a “sacred” grove and by mineral springs which, poetically enough given the topic of this page, flowed into the Tiber. The reason for this Sibyl’s importance to Christians is her meeting with Augustus. 3 The story as recounted in Archbishop Jacobus de Voragine’s 13th c. “Golden Legend,” in its section on the Feast of the Nativity:

…here is what Pope Innocent III tells us: in order to reward Octavian for having established peace in the world, the Senate wished to pay him the honours of a god. But the wise Emperor, knowing that he was mortal, was unwilling to assume the title of immortal before he had asked the Sibyl whether the world would some day see the birth of a greater man than he.

Now on the day of the Nativity the Sibyl was alone with the emperor, when at high noon, she saw a golden ring appear around the sun. In the middle of the circle stood a Virgin, of wondrous beauty, holding a Child upon her bosom. The Sibyl showed this wonder to Caesar; and a voice was heard which said: “This woman is the Altar of Heaven (Ara Coeli)!”

And the Sibyl said to him: “This Child will be greater than thou.”

Thus the room where this miracle took place was consecrated to the holy Virgin; and upon the site the church of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli stands today. However, other historians recount the same event in a slightly different way. According to them, Augustus mounted the Capitol, and asked the gods to make known to him who would reign after him; and he heard a voice saying: “A heavenly Child, the Son of the living God, born of a spotless Virgin!” Whereupon Augustus erected the altar beneath which he placed the inscription: This is the altar of the Son of the living God.

Click here to see a typical medieval depiction of the meeting of the Tiburtine Sibyl and Augustus (you can read more about this encounter and the church that sprang from it in the Il Santo Bambino section of the page on Devotion to the Child Jesus).

The Erythraean Sybil:
The Sibyl of the Acrostic

The Erythraean Sibyl is said to have been the daughter of a shepherd and a nymph. She lived in Erythrae, Ionia (Asia Minor), on the Aegean Sea, and is often confused with the Cumaean Sibyl (St. Augustine, in his “City of God,” speaks of this).

What makes this woman important to Christians is her prediction of Christ, given in the form of an acrostic poem which formed the words, ‘Ihsous Xristos Qeou uios spthr, which means, “Jesus Christ the Son of God, the Saviour.” See excerpts from “The City of God” below.

The Cumaean Sybil:
The Sibyl of the Underworld

The most fascinating of all Sibyls lived in Cumae (now called Cuma), the first Greek colony founded in Italy, located about twenty miles West of Naples in “the volcanic region near Vesuvius, where the whole country is cleft with chasms from which sulphurous flames arise, while the ground is shaken with pent-up vapors, and mysterious sounds issue from the bowels of the earth.” 4 The Sibyl who was also known as Amalthaea made her home in a grotto in this tempestuous land — a grotto that can be visited even today — and there she would write her prognostications on leaves and spread them at one of the hundred mouths to her cave, allowing them to be picked up and read — or scattered by the winds to be seen no more, whichever came first, as Virgil tells us in his Aeneid:

Arriv’d at Cumae, when you view the flood
Of black Avernus, and the sounding wood,
The mad prophetic Sibyl you shall find,
Dark in a cave, and on a rock reclin’d.
She sings the fates, and, in her frantic fits,
The notes and names, inscrib’d, to leafs commits.
What she commits to leafs, in order laid,
Before the cavern’s entrance are display’d:
Unmov’d they lie; but, if a blast of wind
Without, or vapors issue from behind,
The leafs are borne aloft in liquid air,
And she resumes no more her museful care,
Nor gathers from the rocks her scatter’d verse,
Nor sets in order what the winds disperse.
Thus, many not succeeding, most upbraid
The madness of the visionary maid,
And with loud curses leave the mystic shade.

In the Aeneid, too, she gives Aeneas a tour of the infernal regions which are entered into in the land she inhabited (this story is the reason for Dante’s having chosen Virgil as his guide in “The Divine Comedy”). After this tour of the underworld, they ascend again, and the Sibyl tells the story of how she came to be hundreds of years old. From chapter 25 of Bullfinch’s book:

As Aeneas and the Sibyl pursued their way back to earth, he said to her, “Whether thou be a goddess or a mortal beloved by the gods, by me thou shalt always be held in reverence. When I reach the upper air, I will cause a temple to be built to thy honor, and will myself bring offerings.”

“I am no goddess,” said the Sibyl; “I have no claim to sacrifice or offering. I am mortal; yet if I could have accepted the love of Apollo, I might have been immortal. He promised me the fulfilment of my wish, if I would consent to be his. I took a handful of sand, and holding it forth, said, ‘Grant me to see as many birthdays as there are sand-grains in my hand.’

“Unluckily I forgot to ask for enduring youth. This also he would have granted, could I have accepted his love, but offended at my refusal, he allowed me to grow old. My youth and youthful strength fled long ago. I have lived seven hundred years, and to equal the number of the sand-grains, I have still to see three hundred springs and three hundred harvests. My body shrinks up as years increase, and in time, I shall be lost to sight, but my voice will remain, and future ages will respect my sayings.”

An ancient woman doomed to live a thousand years, but without youth, shrinking with age each year until nothing is left of her but her voice — a voice which some say is kept in a jar in the cave, and that others say one can still hear there in her Cumaean grotto.

Another great tale told of her, and mentioned by Lactantius above, is how she went to sell nine books to the King of the Tarquins, a story told well by Amy Friedman:

For many years, beneath the temple of Jupiter in Rome, the sibylline books were protected in a closely guarded vault. These were books that the priests consulted, especially during times of natural disaster, when earthquakes and floods and hurricanes swept down on their world, when disease struck and when hardship came. These books contained great wisdom and predictions of what the future held for their land and people. The sibylline books, the priests said, were precious beyond any treasure.

She was known as the Cumaean Sibyl, a woman who could change her features at will. She was wild-eyed, wild-haired and wild-tongued. One day, she came to see the king, Tarquin the Elder. She brought with her an offer.

“I have nine books to sell to you,” she told the king.

“What books would those be?” the king asked. She was an odd-looking woman, and the king did not believe she was the prophetess she claimed to be.

“In these nine books,” she said, “is contained the destiny of Rome.”

Tarquin the Elder laughed at the old woman. He had heard of her, of course, but he did not believe she could predict the future, and he did not, for one moment, believe that these books she carried contained the destiny of the world. Her voice, after all, was more like a croak, and when she spoke, foam gathered on her lips.

Tarquin had heard that she wrote her predictions on oak leaves and that she laid these leaves at the edge of her cave. When the wind came and blew the leaves, they drifted this way and that, hither and yon, so that those who received the woman’s messages often were confused by the words.

Tarquin did not believe she was as wise as she claimed, but he was curious about her offer. “How much money do you want for your books?” he asked.

“Nine bags of gold,” she answered.

The king and his advisers roared with laughter. “Nine bags of gold? How could you ask such a fortune?”

“The future of your world lies within them,” she repeated, but seeing that he did not wish to buy her books, she started a fire, and into this fire she hurled three of her books.

Within moments they were burned to ash, and the sibyl of Cumae set off for home, leaving behind the king and his advisers.

It was another year before the sibyl returned. This time, she arrived with six books.

“What do you want now?” Tarquin asked her.

“I offer six books for sale,” she answered. “Six books that contain the rest of the destiny of Rome.”

“How much?” the king asked her.

“Nine bags of gold,” she said.

“What?” asked the king. “Nine bags for fewer books? Are you mad? You asked nine bags for nine books, but now you offer only six for the same price?”

“Think what they contain before you refuse,” the sibyl said. “The rest of the future of Rome.”

“Too much,” Tarquin answered, and so, once again, the woman built a fire and tossed into it three more books. Then she turned and walked away, crossing the wide farmlands that separated Rome from Cumae.

The roads between the two cities were long and treacherous in those days. The woman’s journey was difficult. Still, the next year, she returned to see the king once again. This time she brought with her the three remaining books.

“Three books remain,” she said, “and I will sell these to you for nine bags of gold.”

Now the king’s advisers gathered around, and they consulted among themselves. They were worried that the old sibyl would burn the very last of the predictions. What if what she said were true? What if they might know their future? What if they were throwing away their opportunity to read their destinies?

“You must buy these books,” the advisers told their king, and so he did, paying the old sibyl nine bags of gold.

When the king and his advisers had read the three books that remained, they understood that this odd old woman was truly a great sibyl, prophetess of the future. The king sent at once for her and had her returned to his court. “Please,” Tarquin begged her, “will you rewrite the other six books?”

“No,” she said, refusing to discuss the matter. “You have chosen your destiny, and I cannot change that.”

Rome did rise to be a great kingdom, and for years and years it flourished as a powerful republic, conquering Gaul under the famed Julius Caesar. But when the Roman Empire collapsed, people wondered what wisdom they might have learned in those six books burned by the sibyl of Cumae.

What Can Be Learned
from the Church’s Honoring of the Sibyls

These women, albeit shrouded in mystery and wonderful, fantastical tales, remind us that the Church teaches that actual grace and the natural virtues exist outside of Her, and that Christians are to honor Truth no matter whence it comes in the temporal realm. That the majority of Church Fathers adopted a form of Platonism, considering the philosopher an ally against naturalism and materialism, that St. Thomas Aquinas and the Scholastics who followed used the Truths spoken by Aristotle for the same, that medieval Catholic civilization revered the “Nine Worthies” 5 — three of whom were pagan — as the embodiment of chivalry — these things remind us that arrogance and spiritual pride have no place in a Catholic’s life. While there is an “us” and a “them” with regard to sanctifying grace, there is no “us” and “them” with regard to actual grace and the natural virtues. Further, we can’t presume to know who’s been blessed by sanctifying grace — i.e., we can’t know who the “them” is in that regard; we can only know who is formally outside of the Church and, therefore, whom we need to evangelize — in all charity and prudence — and pray for.

Treat all men with charity, honor Truth wherever it is, and live a deeply Catholic life. “Spread the Gospel and let God sort ’em out.” Aside from fighting to restore honor for Christ’s Kingship with regard to civil law, this is all we can do.

E caelo rex adveniet per saecla futurus

Judicii signum tellus sudore madescet.

Secreta atque deus reserabit pectora luci

Judicii signum tellus sudore madescet.

Eripitur solis jubar et chorus interit astris

Judicii signum tellus sudore madescet.

Deiciet colles valles extollet ab imo

Judicii signum tellus sudore madescet.

Jam aequantur campis montes et caerula ponti
omnia cessabunt tellus confracta peribit.
Judicii signum tellus sudore madescet.

Sic pariter fontes torrentur fluminaque igni

Judicii signum tellus sudore madescet.

Orbe gemens facinus miserum variosque labores tartareumque chaos monstrabit terra dehiscens.
Judicii signum tellus sudore madescet.

Et coram hic domino reges sistentur ad unum
reccidet e caelo ignisque et sulphuris amnis.
Judicii signum tellus sudore madescet.

The Legendary Sword in the Stone of San Galgano

One of the most famous English legends is that of King Arthur and the sword in the stone. According to the various versions of the story, the sword could only be pulled out of the stone by the true king of England. A similar, though much less well-known, story can be found in the Italian region of Tuscany, and has even been suggested by some as the inspiration for the English legend. This is the sword in the stone of San Galgano.
San Galgano is reported to be the first saint whose canonisation was conducted through a formal process by the Church. Consequently, much of the San Galgano’s life is known through the documents of this canonisation process, which was carried out in 1185, just a few years after his death. Furthermore, there are also a number of works written by later authors about the saint’s life.

San Galgano was born in 1148 in Chiusdino, in the modern Italian province of Siena. His mother is recorded as Dionisia, whilst (in later works) his father’s name is said to be Guido or Guidotti. It is said that San Galgano was only concerned with worldly pleasures in his early life. As a noble, he was a knight trained in the art of war, and was arrogant as well as violent. All this changed, however, and the knight subsequently became a hermit.
San Galgano’s conversion began with a vision of the Archangel Michael, who, incidentally, is commonly depicted as a warrior saint. In one version of the legend, the Archangel Michael appeared before San Galgano, and showed him the way to salvation. The archangel even told the saint the place that he should go. The next morning, San Galgano declared that he was going to become a hermit, and would reside in a nearby cave. As one may expect, San Galgano was ridiculed by his friends and family, and probably thought to have lost his mind. The saint’s mother, Dionisia, manages to convince her son to visit his fiancée for the last time before renouncing all worldly pleasures. Donning his nobleman’s clothes, San Galgano sets out to visit his fiancée. On his way there, the saint’s horse suddenly reared, and he was thrown off its back.

Then, an invisible force lifted San Galgano onto his feet, and a seraphic voice led him to Montesiepi, a hill close to Chiusdino. When San Galgano reached the foot of the hill, he was told to stand still and look to the top of Montesiepi. San Galgano is said to have seen a vision of a round temple with Jesus and Mary surrounded by the Twelve Apostles. Then, the voice told him to climb the hill, and the vision faded. When San Galgano reached the top of Montesiepi, the voice spoke again, commanding him to renounce all his worldly desires. San Galgano, however, objected, saying that this is as easy as splitting stones with a sword. To prove his point, San Galgano drew his sword, and thrust it into a stone. To the saint’s great amazement, the weapon went through the stone like a hot knife through butter, and has been stuck in the stone ever since. San Galgano understood the message loud and clear, and lived on Montesiepi as a hermit. Several years after San Galgano’s death, a round chapel was built on the top of Montesiepi, with the sword in the stone as its main attraction.
Chapel on top of Montesiepi, Siena

For centuries, the sword in the stone was commonly believed to be a modern fake. A relatively recent research, however, has shown that the sword is indeed from the 12th century, based on the composition of the metal and the style of the sword. The researchers also discovered, with the aid of ground-penetrating radar, that there is a cavity measuring 2m by 1m beneath the sword, perhaps containing the body of San Galgano. Lastly, carbon-dating of another curiosity of the chapel – a pair of mummified hands, confirmed that they are also from the 12th century. According to one legend, the Devil supposedly sent an assassin, in the guise of a monk, to Montesiepi. The wild wolves of the hill, who were befriended by San Galgano, protected the saint, and attacked the would-be assailant. After the assassin was killed, his hands were mummified and were subsequently displayed in the chapel.

The Truth About Thanksgiving: Brainwashing of the American History Textbook

Those who are indigenous to this land we call “The United States of America” have been long misrepresented and pushed out of American history textbooks in favor of glorifying those who now rule this nation and represent the dominant culture. What kind of democracy are we when education institutions and teachers refuse to mention the fact that 10 to 30 million Natives were killed at the hands of European invasion and colonialism? What is the point of having a “free market of ideas” when selective and biased history is being taught to our children?

There is no other way to put it, but erasing the memory of an entire race of people through distorted history is a systematic way of deceiving and lying to our children. Not only are we presented with biased history, but we are also subjected to an ever-growing culture of capitalism, in which commercialization of an ambiguous holiday merely pulls us away from facts and meaning. Turkeys are associated with “Thanksgiving” in the same way Santa Clause and the Easter bunny have become synonymous with Christmas and Easter, respectively. Through the guise of innocence, capitalism is constantly telling us to consume because consumption equals “happiness.” Tomorrow is not “Black Friday” for nothing.

And as children dress up as Pilgrims and Natives to reenact the romanticized version of history, they are not only perpetuating stereotypes, but more importantly, they’re being embedded with lies. What do they really know about the Pilgrims and the Natives? Consider a high school history textbook called “The American Tradition” which describes the scene quite succinctly:

After some exploring, the Pilgrims chose the land around Plymouth Harbor for their settlement. Unfortunately, they had arrived in December and were not prepared for the New England winter. However, they were aided by friendly Indians, who gave them food and showed them how to grow corn. When warm weather came, the colonists planted, fished, hunted, and prepared themselves for the next winter. After harvesting their first crop, they and their Indian friends celebrated the first Thanksgiving.

This patronizing version of history excludes many embarrassing facts of European history. As stated by James W. Loewen, author of “Lies My Teacher Told Me,” many college students are unaware of the horrific plague that devastated and significantly reduced the population of Natives after Columbus’ arrival in the “new world.” Most diseases came from animals that were domesticated by Europeans. Cowpox from cows led to smallpox, which was later “spread through gifts of blankets by infected Europeans.” Of the twelve high school textbooks Professor Loewen studied and analyzed, only three offer some explanation that the plague was a factor of European colonization. The nine remaining textbooks mention almost nothing, and two of them omit the subject altogether. He writes: “Each of the other seven furnishes only a fragment of a paragraph that does not even make it into the index, let alone into students’ minds.”

Why is it important to mention the plague? It reinforced European ethnocentricism which hardly produced a “friendly” relationship between the Natives and Europeans. To most of the Pilgrims and Europeans, the Natives were heathens, savages, treacherous, and Satanic. Upon seeing thousands of dead Natives, the Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony, John Winthrop, called the plague “miraculous.” In 1634, he wrote to a friend in England:

But for the natives in these parts, God hath so pursued them, as for 300 miles space the greatest part of them are swept away by the small pox which still continues among them. So as God hath thereby cleared our title to this place, those who remain in these parts, being in all not fifty, have put themselves under our protect…

The ugly truth is that many Pilgrims were thankful and grateful that the Native population was decreasing. Even worse, there was the Pequot Massacre in 1637, which started after the colonists found a murdered white man in his boat. Ninety armed settlers burned a Native village, along with their crops, and then demanded the Natives to turn in the murderers. When the Natives refused, a massacre followed.

Captain John Mason and his colonist army surrounded a fortified Pequot village and reportedly shouted: “We must burn them! Such a dreadful terror let the Almighty fall upon their spirits that they would flee from us and run into the very flames. Thus did the Lord Judge the heathen, filling the place with dead bodies.” The surviving Pequot were hunted and slain.

The Governor of Plymouth, William Bradford, further elaborates:

Those that escaped the fire were slain with the sword; some hewed to pieces, others run through with their rapiers, so that they were quickly dispatched and very few escaped. It was conceived they thus destroyed about 400 at this time. It was a fearful sight to see them thus frying in the fire…horrible was the stink and scent thereof, but the victory seemed a sweet sacrifice, and they gave the prayers thereof to God, who had wrought so wonderfully for them.

Perhaps most disturbingly, it is strongly argued by many historians that the Pequot Massacre led to the “Thanksgiving” festivities. The day after the massacre, the aforementioned Governor Massachusetts Bay Colony declared: “A day of Thanksgiving, thanking God that they had eliminated over 700 men, women and children.” It was signed into law that, “This day forth shall be a day of celebration and thanksgiving for subduing the Pequots.”

Now, one may ask: What about Squanto, the Wampanoag man who learned to speak English and helped the hungry, ill, and poor Pilgrims? As cited by Professor Loewen, an American high school textbook called “Land of Promise” reads:

Squanto had learned their language, the author explained, from English fishermen who ventured into the New England waters each summer. Squanto taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn, squash, and pumpkins. Would the small band of settlers have survived without Squanto’s help? We cannot say. But by the fall of 1621, colonists and Indians could sit down to several days of feast and thanksgiving to God (later celebrated as the first Thanksgiving).

Note that this text states the first Thanksgiving was on 1621. Indeed, there was a feast on that year, but it was not called a “Thanksgiving feast” nor was it repeated until years later after the Pequot Massacre in 1637. In regards to Squanto, the correct question to ask is: How did Squanto learn English? History textbooks neglect to mention that the Europeans did not perceive Squanto as an equal, but rather as “an instrument of their God” to help the “chosen people.” It is also omitted that, as a boy, Squanto was stolen by a British captain in 1605 and taken to England. He worked for a Plymouth Merchant who eventually helped him arrange passage back to Massachusetts, but less than a year later, he was seized by a British slave raider. Along with two dozen fellow Natives, Squanto was sold into slavery in Spain. He would manage to escape slavery, journey back to England, and then talk a ship captain into taking him along on his next trip to Cape Cod in 1619.

As Squanto walked back into his home village, he was horrified to find that he was the only surviving member of his village. The rest were either killed in battle or died of illness and disease. Excluding Squanto’s enslavement is to paint an incredibly distorted version of history that suggests Natives like Squanto learned English for no other reason but to help the colonists. It is to glorify the Europeans and erase the struggles and experiences of the Native people.

When history is transformed into myths, tales, and bedtime stories, we ignore historical research that enables us to learn valuable and meaningful lessons about our present, as well as about our future. History is meant to be an accurate and honest account of civilizations, cultures, and events; not a body of ethnocentric and selective alterations.

As Professor Loewen states:

Thanksgiving is full of embarrassing facts. The Pilgrims did not introduce the Native Americans to the tradition; Eastern Indians had observed autumnal harvest celebrations for centuries. Our modern celebrations date back only to 1863; not until the 1890s did the Pilgrims get included in the tradition; no one even called them ‘Pilgrims’ until the 1870s.

I did not write this article with intentions to offend or say we shouldn’t celebrate “Thanksgiving.” None of us are responsible for the atrocious deaths of Natives and Europeans. None of us caused the plague or the massacres. But as human beings, I do feel that it’s important for us to approach history with honesty and sensitivity. Perhaps some of you don’t believe this history is relevant to you, but I would strongly argue that a history that is not inclusive is a dangerously racist and prejudice one. Yes, we should spend time with our families and Loved ones, and yes, we should be grateful and thankful for all that we have, but not at the expense of ignoring an entire race of people, their culture, and their history. The fact that history textbooks and schools try to glorify the Pilgrims while omitting significant facts about the Natives represents that there is a lot to improve in the United States. Let us not become blinded by super-patriotism or blowout sales of “Black Friday.” Let us give some thought to the Native people, learn from their struggles, and embolden ourselves to stand up against racism and genocide in all forms.

They deserve your attention.

Transparent Assessment of Challenges Faced During FTW QEG 3-Month Global Build Tour. Plus, target date for Phase 3 (Self Running) Completion.

thCAAS0Q8HThe purpose of this blog post is to highlight some of the challenges the QEG team has met along the way.

We would like to begin this post in a position of love and compassion for all of humanity, especially the thousands of beautiful souls that are investing their hearts, time and money into bringing free energy to this planet and free us all. We at FTW recognize fully that we are all in transition at this time, which can mean many different things. The open-sourcing and co-development of something like this has never been done this way before, and while we work on creating a new way of collaborating together, there are sure to be challenges and the need to clear and cleanse some of the old ways.

The best way to do this is through the transparent presentation of pure data. This can be a beacon of clarity to help us wade through all the emotions, opinions, and other distractions that get in the way of our collective progress. With data, each individual will have what they need to make informed decisions and follow their hearts.

As stated in our last campaign update, what has happened as a result of the 3rd phase QEG build in the UK, and co-development around the world, is strong, sturdy and monumental growth for the way that free energy is being brought through to the people, after hundreds of years of suppression.

Before we go into details of the challenges of each of the builds, it is important to explain more about the methodology and working style of James Robitaille, the one responsible for bringing this to the world in this way.

James is not impatient. He is slow and methodical and very careful with each step he takes. He paces himself and measures twice before doing anything. For him, engineering work is like meditation.

James is a non-degreed engineer, meaning, he does not have the same conditioning that the traditional academic system imposes on the entire energy industry (see supporting video HERE). Because of this, he does not have to “unlearn” what many had to learn. Also because of this, he was the top engineer for a major motor manufacturing company for 26 years. They saw his gift, as all of those who have worked with him can see. This company also went through several downsizings, but even through this his worth and position was recognized and never made redundant. He left this job of his own free will, to dedicate his talent to building and offering the QEG to humanity.

James now recognizes that all the things he has selected to learn about during the course of his life were pointed towards the development of this project. He now sees the QEG as his life’s work.

James has a background of working in large and small engineering teams in a corporate environment. These environments were controlled, meaning, there were test procedures and need for documentation for everything you do, and all projects had timelines. James usually worked hands on with only one or two other people at any given time, and the left hand always knew what the right hand was doing. This was also in a closed and private environment where distractions were not permitted.

From the Beginning
James received a ‘download’ of information and knew from his engineering skills that if he had the right supplies, he could rebuild one of Tesla’s concepts in the QEG, make it work, and give the plans away to the world. FTW crowdfunded the cost of the supplies to do this.

QEG Build in PA (October 2013 – February 2014)
For the first 5 months, James worked alone on the first QEG in his methodical manner in a closed private environment with no help from any other engineers. During this time he was in development, which meant he had to source all the components for the first time, many of which were hard to locate as they were new. He had many discussions with his suppliers, sent them drawings and schematics (which he first had to make) in order to instruct them how to create the parts (e.g. the stator and all components of the core). He started completely from scratch as his teacher from WITTS only gave him minimal instruction.

Once all the required research was done and the components finally arrived (in January), he began assembly, went through testing, trial and error, and reached resonance within 5 weeks (February 2014). For the preceding 4 months, James had been in conference with Taiwan, who supported development and wanted to build QEGs in their country. It was clearly communicated and understood that this was a prototype in development, it was not delivery of a finished product.

The next steps would be to figure out how to control the power found in the core as the core and its unique design is the key component of the QEG (it is properly designed based on Tesla’s concepts). Directly after open sourcing the QEG, James was strongly encouraged by the Taiwan group to go to Taiwan and together, all would figure out how to control the power generated in the core.

QEG Build in Taiwan (March 26th – April 14th 2014)
Everything was going very well, also very fast…. There were at least 10 engineers working simultaneously at all times (see QEG Build in Taiwan HERE). This allowed Taiwan to assemble the QEG to get it to resonance in record timing (4 days). However, there was excitement, a bit of rushing and some language difficulties, in addition to “too many cooks…” (the head Taiwan Engineer/Factory Owner had experts that he would call, e.g., a motor guy, who brought and set up the motor and controller – see Taiwan Has Resonance video HERE).

Afterwards, they started running the QEG before the core was completely wired up to the load and there was no spark gap installed. The core shorted out. (It was later discovered that this was because it has to be properly loaded at all times.) This was all due to the excitement of having reached resonance and wanting to complete the project ASAP, which actually delayed the build as Taiwan had to take 4 days out of the work schedule to get the core rewound and start again. When they returned with the rewound core, it was discovered that the winding company wound one of the coils in the wrong direction. Rather than lose another 4 days to have this fixed, James decided to try to work around this with the remaining time he had in Taiwan.

It was during this time that they were able to make some discoveries regarding the high voltage as shown in this QEG update video from Taiwan. It should be noted that at this point, the trip had already been prolonged by a week, incurring an additional cost in thousands of dollars in non-refundable cancelled airfare and a newly scheduled flight to Morocco. Also at this time, the winding company had a big wedding and the entire company closed down for a whole week! In the last days of the build, James was not able to get the QEG to self-running because (due to the delay of re-winding the core) he ran out of time, and we could not afford to cancel more tickets that had already been purchased.

So James and Val left to meet up with Hope in Morocco, and Taiwan was left with the job of rewinding their core for the 3rd time (due to human error, not the construction of the core) and continuing development on their own for a time. For the 3 weeks we were in Taiwan, James provided dozens of hours of recorded instructions, and all were confident co-development would continue on the QEG.

QEG Build in Morocco (April 15th – May 25th 2014)
Through crowdfunding and the generosity of the people, FTW was able to donate a QEG to an underdeveloped country, to be able to run a pump on a water well in a very impoverished area. This build was exposed to the public and engineers, physicists and other scientists had an open invitation to come, and come they did – from around the world! As many as 80 people from 24 countries showed up. These were professionals of the highest caliber.

FTW shipped the core to Morocco on March 23rd and it was scheduled to Arrive in Morocco on April 8th. When the QEG family arrived in Morocco on April 15th, the core had still not arrived. Moroccan Customs would not release it. Everyone at the build had to wait another 8 days, while we fought with Customs, until we finally had the core in our possession and were ready to begin the build. While we were waiting for the core, we were trying to source some of the parts that the CICU (cottage industry community unit – for directory go HERE) had been having trouble getting in Morocco.

Once the build finally began, resonance was achieved within 4 days. The next step was tuning, which meant we needed to have plenty of capacitors. We had capacitors shipped overnight from the US which actually took three weeks to arrive due to the Moroccan mail system, so we began to look more locally when it became clear overnight delivery was not happening. This took several more days searching in towns as far as 3-4 hours away. It should also be mentioned that in an effort to move things along, plane tickets were purchased (by a very generous build attendee) for people to fly parts over to Morocco in their suitcase, as this was faster than overnight delivery to Morocco.

Once we finally had the capacitors we started the testing and tuning (next step after resonance). This took 6 days to go through enough testing to find the correct combination for the next necessary step: overunity. As soon as the formula was found, the individual who was at the build with the necessary equipment needed to complete this process, had to leave Morocco to return home, taking all his instrumentation with him.

Note: Due to a bad signal, we had working internet in Morocco only 3-5% of the time that we were there (which was up to 6 weeks). During this time, the free energy community of believers and non-believers were asking for data and proof of concept. To meet this demand from the public, James stayed on in Morocco and waited for someone from the UK to fly in with £50,000 in equipment necessary to produce the numbers everyone wanted to see. It took him 5 days to tune properly to produce the numbers and create this video. James’ dedication to The People who funded this project motivated him to spend the extra 5 days producing the proof of concept everyone wanted to see. After making the video, the free energy community began a debate over what was considered “usable power vs. raw power” and also debated what the true definition of overunity is. This initiated an additional delay; James spent another 4 days documenting overnunity to provide the numbers people were demanding, and createdthis video and report.

The next step James hoped to complete for the Moroccan build was to use a transverter to convert the power out of the core in order to get it to self-running. A transverter, or components to build one, was not available in Morocco. As a plan “B” James saw the possibility of getting the same effect using a transformer, which he tried and it didn’t work (because it changed the resonant frequency). However there is a possibility that it could work after impedance matching, which required components and instruments that were not available in Morocco. James then tried to work with the exciter coil to produce the same effect, but could not complete it for the same reasons: lack of instrumentation and components in Morocco.

At this time, we ran out of money and had to launch a new campaign for Phase 3: Self-running, which we were encouraged to do in a more developed country, where what was needed would be more readily available. (You can read more about the Morocco QEG Build HERE.)

QEG Build in the UK (May 25th – June 26th 2014)
We developed many relationships in Morocco. One of which was Ray, who invited the QEG family to come to stay with him in the UK for a private build that would get us to self-running. He ordered and paid for all plane tickets and parts. He understood the problems we had all along the tour, recognized the potential of what we were all sitting on, and so provided a space in a country with adequate resources to reach the goal.

It took three weeks to prepare the space for the UK build and order all the parts. This included building a workshop from scratch, ordering a core and having it shipped from the US, and carefully ordering all the other parts. Note: many parts and processes were improved along the way, from our experience building the QEG three times so far, including the insulation system and secondary wire gauge (changed from 10 gauge to 12 gauge) on the core, type of bearings and pulleys used, and the exciter coil (changed from solid to stranded wire).

The UK build began on June 14th. Based on our past experience of the last 3 builds it was safe to assume that we needed 7-10 days to assemble a QEG from scratch, get it to resonance, apply the tuning, and achieve self-running.

One of the engineers at the UK build was invited because he was going to bring the transverter. He came with something else that he thought would do the same thing: a Marcov coil. This coil was put on the core before assembly and tested to prove that VARS (potential power), could be converted to Watts (usable power), in this way. The testing with the Marcov coil took 3 days. The thinking during this time was to prove the concept before assembly so that we would know for sure if we would have self-running using this system later. This may have been a misjudgment of the time we had to complete phase 3, but it seemed like a good idea. Assembly commenced on the 4th day (assembly takes 3-4 days to complete) but on the fifth day we had special guests come to the build to conduct an unexpected spiritual business exercise. This took up the entire day. Assembly commenced on day 6-8. Resonance was then achieved on the evening of June 21st. (See UK Has Resonance video HERE.)

Right after filming the UK QEG reaching resonance, a similar thing happened that happened in Taiwan: the core short-circuited. AGAIN, THIS IS NOT A DEFECT IN THE CORE DESIGN OR PRODUCTION. To further explain, normally after reaching resonance, James would then begin a tuning process to find the best frequency and RPM, which also includes using a spark gap to ensure any excess voltage is diverted away from the core. In a moment of human error, when the guest engineers were focusing on the Marcov coil effects, they disregarded the connections to the core. Someone turned up the RPMs before James had a chance to put a spark gap on, and the core short-circuited as a result. Luckily there was a second core that had been donated to this build and the following day they switched out the cores, installed a spark gap before reaching resonance again, and began the tuning process for the core. The Marcov coil was put on hold in the second assembly, to be returned to later on.

After the core was tuned, next came the tuning of the exciter coil where they were making great progress. This tuning process also takes quite a bit of time as you need to keep testing in order to get the correct combination of capacitance and inductance. Once you’ve figured out this formula, then it will be the same for any replications later on down the line. This is what it means to be “in development”, as we find the answers others can use later on.

At this point, the QEG family had been living on the road for 3 months. Originally, it was planned that James and Val would return home in between the Taiwan and Morocco builds, and home for good on the 18th of April (the UK was not considered in the beginning) to tend to home/life responsibilities. This did not happen due to the delays of the builds. Their last plane tickets back home (including Hope’s ticket) were reserved and paid for By The People for June 26th, were non-refundable and could not be changed.

On his last day, James worked late into the night on tuning the exciter coil. He was literally hours away from self-running when he had to leave the UK. Again, he could not finish phase 3 because we ran out of time.

So here’s where we are now
The entire QEG family is back in Pennsylvania where the first QEG was built. It’s taken 3 weeks for this family to resolve some problems on the home front caused by being away for so long. Due to the new and improved second generation QEG core, some minor adjustments are needed to the workshop set-up, which is what James is now doing. The environment here is drastically different to that of the global tour, and is not subject to interruption. James is not teaching, there is no experimentation, and most of the time-consuming developmental tasks have already been completed. We are at the doorstep of reaching self-running and completing Phase 3 by the end of this month (July).

While James works on the QEG here in the United States to complete the task, the rest of the QEG team are working on the creation of a CICU Certification Training Course. This course will be “self-running”, meaning, anyone can access and take the course on their own, and offered for free to those interested in developing a CICU in their community/country for the distribution and manufacturing of QEG’s.

After doing something like this so publicly, we now step back and take an assessment of some of the experiences we’ve had. We realize that what is about to happen truly will change a lot of things on this planet, and see that perhaps if it were to have happened completely overnight, it may have been quite a shock for some.

Over the last three months a mycelline distribution network has begun to grow. We were planting seeds all over the world and there are now many QEG’s in different locations waiting for that final step. The following are countries that are either preparing to build, or already building, and otherwise in co-development for working QEG prototypes:

Czech Republic
S. Africa

That’s 32 countries and more coming on board weekly! When that final step comes they will all pop up at once! Perhaps humanity needed a few months of linear time to follow the story, to watch the videos, to talk to their friends about it. All of these activities are a way that people can engage and invest their energy for a better future for us all. This way, when the final event does occur, humanity has had a bit of time to get ready for it. We don’t want to shock the new paradigm into existence, we want to usher it in. We know from the generosity of The People who are funding this project that many are ready. Many more will awaken soon.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the folks at Torelco for working with the global QEG community to be able to provide the highest quality core every step of the way in development. They have perfected the new insulation system of vacuum epoxy impregnation, and all the engineers purchasing these can feel confident in its performance. Be sure to install your spark gap and tune properly (watch for updated Build Manual coming soon!), and your core will bring you great results.

Century of Enslavement: The History of The Federal Reserve ~ Corbett Report

What is the Federal Reserve system? How did it come into existence? Is it part of the federal government? How does it create money? Why is the public kept in the dark about these important matters? In this feature-length documentary film, The Corbett Report explores these important question and pulls back the curtain on America’s central bank.

Is this the skeleton of legendary devil dog Black Shuck who terrorised 16th century East Anglia? Folklore tells of SEVEN FOOT hell hound with flaming eyes

  • According to folklore, Black Shuck terrorised East Anglia in 16th century
  • He towered at seven feet tall, with flaming red eyes and shaggy black hair
  • Now, remains of legendary hound may have been unearthed during a dig
  • Bones found by archeologists among ruins at Leiston Abbey in Suffolk
  • They belong to ‘male dog’, standing at seven feet tall and weighing 200lbs
  • Experts are currently carrying out radio carbon dating tests on remains

By Paul Harris

It roamed the countryside spreading death and terror – a giant, ferocious hell-hound with flaming eyes and savage claws.

For centuries, the beast that came to be known as Black Shuck struck fear into the hearts of all who crossed its path.

Just a single glimpse was enough to impart a fatal curse; the briefest encounter sufficient to suck the life from any hapless victim.

One thing, however, has always been absent from the many tales of the dog-like entity and its sinister appearances in the East of England flatlands: A single fact.

Now that may be about to change with an answer to the question: Did it exist only in folklore … or was it flesh and blood?

Yesterday, 500 years after Black Shuck first went on the prowl, archaeologists were examining the skeleton of a 7ft long dog unearthed in the remains of an ancient abbey.

It was discovered a few miles from two churches where Black Shuck is said to have killed worshippers during an almighty thunderstorm in August 1577.

What’s more, it appears to have been buried in a shallow grave at precisely the same time as Shuck is said to have been on the loose, primarily around Suffolk and the East Anglia region.

Experts will subject the bones and surrounding material to 21st century dating techniques.

But first, the legend. The beast’s most celebrated attack began at Holy Trinity church, Blythburgh. A clap of thunder burst open the church doors and a hairy black ‘devil dog’ came snarling in.

It ran through the congregation, killing a man and boy and causing the church steeple to fall through the roof. Scorch marks still visible on the church doors are purported to have come from Shuck’s claws as it fled.

Local verse records the event thus: ‘All down the church in the midst of fire, the hellish monster flew, and, passing onward to the quire, he many people slew.’

Next stop was 12 miles away in Bungay, where two worshippers were killed at St Mary’s church. One was left shrivelled ‘like a drawn purse’ as he prayed.

Brendon Wilkins, projects director of Dig Ventures, which organised the dig, pictured, said he believed the dog could have lived around 1577 because it was buried alongside pottery fragments from the period

In his 1577 pamphlet A Straunge And Terrible Wunder, the Rev Abraham Fleming told how the Satan-like beast came ‘running all along down the body of the church with great swiftnesse and incredible haste, among the  people, in a visible fourm and shape’, wringing the necks of two parishioners as they knelt.

Spookily, a later work reveals: ‘Although his howling makes the hearer’s blood run cold, his footfalls make no sound.’

Subsequent appearances of Shuck – a name believed to derive either from an old English word for demon, or from local dialect meaning ‘shaggy’ – have immortalised it.

An image of Black Shuck is incorporated in Bungay’s coat of arms, and the nickname for equally legendary Bungay Town FC is the Black Dogs.

The bones uncovered in the ruins of Leiston Abbey, Suffolk, were first found by archaeological group Dig Ventures in a project last year.

‘The story of Black Shuck has to have originated from somewhere and, who knows, it could have originated from the dog which was buried here’
Brendon Wilkins

Painstaking work revealed the skeleton of an extremely large dog.

Estimates suggest it would have weighed more than 14 stone and stood 7ft tall on its hind legs.

The grave was less than 20 inches deep and unmarked. Pottery fragments found at the same level date from the height of Shuck’s alleged reign.

Radio carbon dating tests will now give an exact age for the bones, results that will serve either to enhance the shaggy dog stories – or perhaps to support the far less entertaining theory that here lies a 16th century abbot’s beloved old hunting dog.

According to folklore, Black Shuck appeared during a storm on August 4, 1577, at Holy Trinity Church in Blythburgh, about seven miles from Leiston in Suffolk.

Villagers were reportedly sheltering inside the church when a huge clap of thunder caused the doors to burst open and the snarling dog crashed in.

It ran through the congregation, killing a man and a boy, before the steeple crashed through the roof.

The dog then fled, leaving scorch marks from its claws on the church door which are still visible today.

Later the same day, Black Shuck is said to have struck again 12 miles away, killing two worshippers during a service at St Mary’s Church, Bungay, while the storm was still raging.

Clergyman, the Rev Abraham Fleming, is believed to have described the appearance of the legendary hell hound in a pamphlet written in 1577, entitled ‘A Straunge and Terrible Wunder’.

He wrote: ‘This black dog, or the divel in such a linenesse (God hee knoweth al who worketh all,) running all along down the body of the church with great swiftnesse, and incredible haste, among the people, in a visible fourm and shape, passed between two persons, as they were kneeling uppon their knees, and occupied in prayer as it seemed, wrung the necks of them bothe at one instant clene backward, in somuch that even at a moment where they kneeled, they strangely dyed.’

Historian W. A. Dutt also wrote about Black Shuck in his 1901 book, Highways and Byways, set in East Anglia.

‘He takes the form of a huge black dog, and prowls along dark lanes and lonesome field footpaths, where, although his howling makes the hearer’s blood run cold, his footfalls make no sound,’ he wrote.

‘Although his howling makes the hearer’s blood run cold, his footfalls make no sound’

W. A. Dutt, historian

The legend of Black Shuck is now so popular that images of the dog have been put up in buildings across the town – and the animal is even being incorporated into Bungay’s coat of arms.

There is also a Black Dog Running Club and a Black Dog antiques shop, while the nickname for the town’s football club is ‘The Black Dogs’.

And the legend has even infiltrated popular culture – with British rock band The Darkness featuring a track inspired by the devil dog on their debut album, Permission To Land.

The track, named ‘Black Shuck’, includes the lyrics: ‘In a town in the east, the parishioners were visited upon by a curious beast.

‘And his eyes numbered but one and shone like the sun, and a glance beckoned the immediate loss of a cherished one.’

Ua Mau Ke Ea, Sovereignty Endures: An Overview of the Political and Legal History of the Hawaiian Islands by David Keanu Sai (review)

From: The Contemporary Pacific
Volume 25, Number 1, Spring 2013
pp. 210-212 | 10.1353/cp.2013.0011

In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

David Keanu Sai’s recent Ua Mau Ke Ea: Sovereignty Endures argues that the United States has been illegally occupying Hawai’i since 1898. Sai contends that, though the United States has treated Hawai’i as the fiftieth state, the Hawaiian Islands, having been recognized as an independent state in 1843 by Britain and France and by a host of other countries thereafter, never had a ratified treaty merging this island nation with the United States. The first text for high school and college students to address Hawai’i’s legal status under US occupation, Ua Mau Ke Ea, with its accompanying CD of documents and a documentary directed by Kau’i Sai-Dudoit, offers a trove of information regarding the US occupation of Hawai’i and asks students to reexamine the colonization rubric as it has been applied to Hawai’i, affirming that despite the United States’ illegal occupation, Hawai’i’s sovereignty endures.

With an implicit awareness that young minds are key to ending the US occupation, Sai’s work demonstrates how Hawaiian history has shifted in recent years toward more precise discourse on the US occupation. In the past decade, the discourse has evolved from Noenoe Silva’s Aloha Betrayed (2004), which described Hawai’i as a “(neo) colonial state” under “continued occupation . . . by the United States” (2004, 9), to Tom Coffman’s revised edition of Nation Within: The History of the American Occupation of Hawai’i (2009), which acknowledged “a growing body of historical work by a new generation of Native Hawaiian scholars” writing about the US occupation of Hawai’i (2009, xvi). Sai is the latest in this academic and popular trend, one of the emerging Native Hawaiian voices contributing to this shift from “colonization” and “annexation” to “occupation” as the legal and political term to describe Hawai’i.

Sai distinguishes colonization from occupation under international law, noting, “Colonization/decolonization is a matter that concerns the internal laws of the colonizing State and presumes the colony is not sovereign, while occupation/de-occupation is a matter of international law relating to already existing sovereign States” (115). Although Hawai’i has been occupied for over a century, Sai contends that the United States has treated these islands as colonized territory and that this “colonial treatment is evidence of the violation” of international law (117).

While Sai’s discussion of colonization and occupation is significant, Ua Mau Ke Ea centers on the United States’ actions toward the Hawaiian Islands in the 1890s. Unfortunately, Sai’s argument, with its focus on the Lili’uokalani Assignment and the Agreement of Restitution, ventures into legal theory that contradicts some aspects of the book’s overarching claims about the United States’ illegal occupation.

Written under duress, the Lili’uokalani Assignment was signed on 17 January 1893, hours after a band of conspirators had declared themselves the Provisional Government, and one day after 162 US sailors disembarked from the uss Boston and occupied Honolulu, Hawai’i’s capital. In this assignment, Queen Lili’uokalani wrote, “to avoid collision of armed forces, and perhaps loss of life, I do this under protest, and impelled by said force, yield my authority until such time as the Government of the United States shall, upon the facts being presented to it, undo the action of its representatives and reinstate me in the authority which I claim as the constitutional sovereign of the Hawaiian islands” (73-74). Because this document yielded authority to the US government, Sai describes this as an assignment of executive power.

The second part of Sai’s argument about Hawai’i’s enduring sovereignty rests in his contention that the 18 December 1893 Agreement of Restitution, which held the weight of a treaty, was never fully enacted. Sai notes, “The Queen’s declaration represented the final act of negotiation and settlement of the 16 January 1893 dispute that arose between the United States and the Hawaiian Kingdom. All that remained for the President, as the assignee of executive power, was to administer Hawaiian Kingdom law, restore the Hawaiian Kingdom government and return the power to the Queen, whereupon the Queen was to grant amnesty, after the criminal convictions of the insurgents, and assume…

The Reality and Suppression of Teleportation Technology, Ralph and Marsha Ring ~ GlobalBEM (**HIGHLY RECOMMENDED**)

From the GlobalBEM Conference, absolutely fascinating information on the “reality” and suppression of teleportation technology…this information WILL transform our world to a much better place once enough people awaken to “what’s possible.” The “system controllers” want to suppress this material so desperately that “word check” doesn’t even recognize the teleportation, even tho it’s commonly been used in science fiction for 60 yrs – think about it.

PLEASE share this video freely, it’s time to let the élite know their game us over and it’s time for the One People of the World to prosper and live out OUR dreams in joy, happiness and peace on Earth. Mahalo…

Pet-Keeping and Animal Sacrifice as Seen Economically and Archaeologically

Posted by: , August 22, 2013

Pet-keeping and animal sacrifice in antiquity were common practices. How the animals were treated can often be seen archaeologically.

By most modern standards, household pets such as cats and dogs are looked at as companion animals. It can be assumed that some people in the past acquired a similar affection to household or working animals. A companion animal is generally valued as being able to bring its owner a sense of loyalty, comfort, security and friendship.

Aside from being strictly companions, pets may additionally provide a household function such as dogs providing security for the family and household and cats catch and kill small, destructive pests. Companion animals need not always be soft and cuddly housemates and dogs and cats were not the only animals valued as pets. In some medieval and post-medieval farming societies, cattle and sheep were regarded as companion animals in life but at the time of their death, they quickly were converted from pet-status to food commodity (Harris 1986, 177-178).

Historical evidence surrounding the keeping of pets clearly shows that animals were prized not only for their household duties, but some, for more non-practical reasons. Some companion animals came to symbolize the status of a person or family. Lap dogs were in fashion in the early seventeenth century, as they are today.

The tiny dogs were a sure sign of wealth and status as evident by the sheer uselessness of the dog. Lapdogs generally do not catch and kill household pests, could not secure the home of its owner or protect its family from intruders. Aside from being little more than a vocal alarm, lapdogs have virtually no other practical purpose.

In Thomas’ (1983) work, it is stated that, “The Stewarts in particular, were so obsessed with them that in 1617 James I was accused of loving his dogs more than his subjects.” Other not-so-cuddly animals were often kept as non-practical companion animals or symbols of wealth. Exotic birds and monkeys among other unusual critters within the society were also clues to the statuses of their owners. Archaeologically, trade routes and bone evidence give clues to the animals imported and exported by a community. North African tortoises were traded as far back as the seventeenth century (Thomas 2005, 101) and the acquisition or collecting of strange, unusual or non-local animals signifies the elevated status of an individual (Thomas 2005, 101).

Archaeologically, animal remains often show evidence of mistreatment, cruelty and other inhumane acts toward the animal in life. Numerous broken rib and jaw bone remains of dogs provide unmistakable evidence of abused animals. Contrasting evidence also shows animals being taken care of when wounded, or treated with respect at death. If the dog was not particularly useful during its life, one must wonder what its purpose was. Surely, a dog with an amputated leg or other deformity was not furry companion.

The zooarchaeological-economic link is revealed again through the acknowledgment of the abundance of reasons for the sacrifice of animals throughout history. Animals have been sacrificed for seemingly endless reasons. People in the past and also the present choose animals based on many factors; age, sex, size and association to a certain god or goddess are just a few.

The reasons why people sacrifice animals at all is plentiful as well. Secular, as well as non-secular reasons including honouring the dead, ensuring the continuation of life, providing good luck, enhancing fertility of people, animals as well as crops, keeping the rain god, the sun god or any number of other gods satisfied are all only a fraction of the reasons why. Reasons, whether economically charged or not; are still valid answers to the question “Why?” Zooarchaeologically, the economic, as well as the non-economic reasons can be uncovered. Lauwerier (2002) discusses the economic impact of different types of animal sacrifice.

Which is more detrimental to the economy of a society, the loss of one horse’s meat, or the loss of a few chicken’s meat? One may immediately answer with the horse meat of course, as a horse provides many hundreds of kilograms of meat where as a chicken may only offer one or two. That answer would be argued as incorrect if the society never or rarely consumes horse meat.

In Roman times, horses were used as work animals, in battle, and as transport; but, as today, horses were considered comrades (Lauwerier 2002, 70). Additionally, the consumption of horse meat might be considered taboo. Ritual consumption, however, is often the culprit for a horse or other animal ‘comrade’ to be eaten. Rituals can be economic or non-economic in nature; often they are both. Suovitaurtilia, the sacrifice of the same numbers of sheep, cattle and pigs in a single ritual, was performed either for the commemoration of the dead or to purify a field used for agricultural purposes and (Wilkens 2002, 73). The commemoration of the dead appears have no economic motive; the purification of the field before seed planting or harvest-time, most certainly does.

The keeping of pets and the sacrifice of animals adds to and often enhances the economic standing of a society whether it is intended or not. Archaeologically, these actions can be seen, establishment of the practice can be made and therefore, it can and should be examined and scrutinized.

The Silver Pharoah Mystery : Documentary³

This documentary explores the fascinating story of one of ancient Egypt’s forgotten Rulers – Pharaoh Psusennes I or as he was known at the time Akheperre Setepenamun.

Uncovered intact by Pierre Montet in 1940,the pharaoh’s mummy was encased in an extraordinary silver casket, unique in the history of Ancient Egypt.

The discovery was overshadowed by World War II, so now some historians have a bit of a muck about and take a fresh look at Psusennes’s remains in a bid to learn more about this old lad,and try to shed light on a murky period of Egyptian history.

Fun fact :- During his long reign, Psusennes I built the enclosure walls and the central part of the Great Temple at Tanis which was dedicated to the triad of Amun, Mut and Khonsu.

Secret Societies: The Committee of 300, The Jesuits, 13 Illuminati Papal Bloodline Families, The Corporation of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, The Federal Reserve Bank, Operation Paperclip & MK-Ultra…MUST READ

Note: This comprehensive and well researched account of America’s hidden history is a worthy read. Sadly until now, the history taught in schools and university’s was written and shaped by the winners over many generations, until recently very few people knew the truth or had the whole picture. But deep down most we all knew something wasn’t right, that somehow the human race was being led down the wrong track.

Thankfully the internet brought in to light what once was hidden in the recesses of darkness and people around the world are waking up, we’re peacefully standing in our power and reclaiming our value and sovereignty as the powerful creators we have always been. We now remember that WE are ALL equal Embodiments of the Creator, absent all limits. We’re peacefully taking back our world and removing all limitations placed on our free will by systems of domination and control.

All debt slavery imposed on us by banks and trans-global corporations, the  kangaroo courts, military, the police state, social engineering/indoctrination, mass media and especially the U.S corporation masquerading as government. We’re fed up with lies, corruption, GMO’s, toxic food supply, police brutality, criminalization of the citizenry by a police state, surveillance, health tyranny by bigpharma/FDA/USDA, the EPA allowing environmental destruction, information war, drug wars, bankers military wars, poverty and the psychopathy inherent in pervasive corruption.

It’s time for all politicians and court officials to resign, a restructuring of the banking system restructured, banksters and corporate management held accountable for crimes against humanity in Common Law courts. All military personnel and defense budgets will be used for cleaning up the environment and helping to enrich impoverished Americans, eliminating global poverty and dismantling nuclear power plants. The global power industry to be employed in manufacturing and installing free energy devices for every home and business around the world. All fossil and nuclear fuels will be banned when alternatives are in place for transportation and energy production. And much more…We don’t seek revenge and are thankful for the part you played in helping us remember, without the pain, suffering and despair we might have stayed blissfully ignorant of our connection to Source and our power to Co-create a better world community and build a New Earth as One People.

Out with the old paradigm to bring in a new way of living that empowers every living soul and all of Earth’s creations….this pivotal moment in history was decreed thousands of years ago, in many ancient texts. The ruling bloodlines and those that rule them, have known this time was coming since the beginning of the Earth experiment. They forgot they were playing a role and are acting like Frat boys on crack 30 minutes after smoking the last rock.

They’re broke and desperate to keep smoking so they’ll do anything, even something stupid to keep the party going. so we’re liable to see some obvious screw-ups as they attempt to create more chaos, as they simultaneously cannibalize themselves, They safest way to enjoy the show will be to stay grounded, centered and observe from a neutral and protected sacred space.  It’s times like this I’m eternally grateful for the Divine Plan and in knowing we’re not alone…and never have been.

In 1913, during the opening year of Wilson’s eight year run as president, he made a statement that should be seen as a major hint in regards to what was really going on beneath the surface:

“Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men’s views confided to me privately.  Some of the biggest men in the United States in the fields of commerce and manufacturing are afraid of somebody.  They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it.

Part I:  Secret Societies

The Committee of 300, The Jesuits, 13 Illuminati Papal Bloodline Families, The Corporation of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, The Federal Reserve Bank, Operation Paperclip & MK-Ultra

In order to gain an understanding of why the world finds itself in such upheaval, we must begin by going back in history to unearth the roots of this problem, and to clearly show that history has not been a random series of events, but rather a carefully planned and executed ‘design’ of land, wealth, and resource grabbing by a small number of wealthy and privileged individuals bent on world domination.  This has been done on such a massive scale that it seems almost incomprehensible, but as the old saying goes, “The best kept secrets are the ones hidden in plain sight.”  We must begin by going back to the early part of the 17th century, to the formation of a company that would eventually become the ruling elite and, ultimately, the engineers of history.

1600 – The East India Company

In the year 1600, Queen Elizabeth I presented a charter to the East India Company.  History tells us that their goal was to establish trade relations with the Eastern world, namely India and China.  Officially, its business was trading in tea.  While this is certainly true, there is a much darker side to the story.  The true goals of this company were two-fold:  To study the banking and financial systems of the Eastern world, (namely India) for eventual manipulation, and to introduce opium to the Far East.  It is through the latter of these two that the East India Company was able to amass massive amounts of wealth that was stored in royal coffers.
The way in which this opium trade began was through the growing of prime opium poppies in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (also referred to as Kew Gardens), in London.  These were then shipped to India, where the British began growing vast plantations of opium-producing poppies.  From there, the poppies were transported in the form of raw opium, via English Tea Clipper ships, to China, where they were sold to the Chinese people.  For many decades, this opium trade continued uninterrupted, and two main things occurred as a result of it:  1. The East India Company made a fortune selling these vast amounts of opium and 2. The Chinese nation became a nation of addicts, with many millions of people becoming addicted to opium and thereby halting progress to the build-up of the infrastructure of China.  The ruling body of the East India Company was known as The Council of 300, yet as the opium trade began to grow and become more lucrative, pulling in massive amounts of wealth, the British monarchy merged with the company, and from this emerged a group that has to this very day referred to themselves as The Committee of 300.
Dr. John Coleman, an alleged former MI6 (British Military Intelligence Division 6) secret service agent with top level security clearance to the upper echelon of the workings of the British aristocracy, has made it his life’s work to ‘rip the mask off’ the hidden agendas of this organization.  Doctor Coleman is a best-selling author who has written many books and monograms on the subject, the magnum opus of which is entitled Conspirator’s Hierarchy:  The Committee of 300.  Dr. Coleman spent five years burying himself in the ancient records and manuscripts held in the British Museum in London.  Essentially, what Doctor Coleman (and others) tell us is that everything we have ever heard about the existence of secret societies, of hidden groups that are based upon the succession of bloodlines, are true.  It is no secret that the British monarchy themselves have been practicing this type of ‘aristocratic inbreeding’ for centuries.  In recent years, names such as The Illuminati, The Priory of Scion, The Free Masons, The Knight’s Templar, Skull and Bones and others have been bandied around.  But what most people do not realize is that these societies are real, and their true intentions have remained hidden in utmost secrecy for centuries.
In his aforementioned book, Coleman describes the Committee of 300 in the following manner:

“The Committee of 300 is a product of the British East India Company’s Council of 300.  The East India Company was chartered by the British royal family in 1600.  It made vast fortunes in the opium drug trade with China and became the largest company on earth in its time.  Today, through many powerful alliances, the Committee of 300 rules the world and is the driving force behind the criminal agenda to create a “New World Order”, under a “Totalitarian Global Government”.  There is no need to use “they” or “the enemy” except as shorthand.  We know who “they”, the enemy, is.  The Committee of 300 with its “aristocracy”, its ownership of the U.S. Federal Reserve banking system, insurance companies, giant corporations, foundations, communications networks, presided over by a hierarchy of conspirators.  This is the enemy.

Secret societies exist by deception.  Each is a hierarchy with an inner circle at the top, who deceives those below with lies, such as claiming a noble agenda; thus, duping them into following a web of compartmentalized complicity.  The inner circle of the Committee of 300 is the Order of the Garter, headed by Queen Elizabeth Windsor II.  The enemy is clearly identifiable as the Committee of 300 and its front organizations, such as the Royal Institute for International Affairs (Chatham House), the Club of Rome, NATO, U.N., the Black Nobility, the Tavistock Institute, CFR and all its affiliated organizations, the think tanks and research institutions controlled by Stanford and the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations and last, but certainly not least, the military establishment.

The Committee of 300 is the ultimate secret society made up of an untouchable ruling class, which includes the Queen of the United Kingdom (Elizabeth II), the Queen of the Netherlands (this would be Queen Beatrix whom, as we shall see later, has been photographed attending meetings of another ultra-secret society called The Bilderberg Group), the Queen of Denmark and the royal families of Europe.  These aristocrats decided at the death of Queen Victoria, the matriarch of the Venetian Black Guelphs that, in order to gain world-wide control, it would be necessary for its aristocratic members to “go into business” with the non-aristocratic but extremely powerful leaders of corporate business on a global scale, and so the doors to ultimate power were opened to what the Queen of England likes to refer to as “the commoners”.  Through their illicit banking cartel, they own the stock of the Federal Reserve, which is a private for-profit corporation that violates U.S. Constitution and is a ROOT of the problem.”

Click HERE to watch a lecture given by Dr. Coleman regarding The Committee of 300.

**Note:  The origin of the Committee of 300 is comprised of a much deeper history that spans nearly a thousand years dating back to the time of the crusades.  Out of the ashes of these brutal wars rose the line of families known as the Guelphs or the Venetian Black Nobility, who have themselves warred endlessly with the Ghibelline line of succession from Florence.  In the modern age, the descendants of these people (the Venetian Black Nobility) represent the most powerful and influential individuals on the planet.  They have wealth which dates back many centuries.  If one wishes to truly understand who it is exactly that hides behind the curtain and wields ultimate power, one must look towards the descendants of the families of Venice, Genoa, and other parts of Italy, as well as the royal family of England.  Yet above these entities stands an even far more powerful group:  The Jesuits, i.e. the Society of Jesus, led by the Black Pope, the Jesuit General Adolfo Nicolas, who wields complete power over the Vatican and the currently sitting White Pope Benedict XVI.  At the very top of the pyramid of power reside the most powerful entities of all, the ultimate shadow masters:  The 13 Ptolemaic Papal Bloodlines, which include the following families:

House of Borja
House of Breakspear
House of Somaglia
House of Orsini
House of Conti
House of Chigi
House of Colonna
House of Farnese
House of Medici
House of Gaetani
House of Pamphili
House of Este
House of Aldobrandini

As of the time of this writing, two men in particular hold ultimate sway over these families:  Pepe Orsini of Rome and Henry Breakspear of Macau and China, with Orsini being the absolute head and one of the most powerful individuals on the planet.  Nothing happens in the world without the consent of these 13 families.  One other group also deserves mention as holding incredible levels of power and influence amongst this web of ancient and secretive societies:  The P2 Masonic Lodge in Monte Carlo, formerly Italy (P2 stands for ‘Propaganda Due’ in Italian).  The banking families of today, including the Rothschild clan of England and the Rockefeller family, as well as the Royal families of Europe, are subordinate to these shadow masters of the Vatican.  The Papal families listed above have a history which dates back thousands of years to the time of ancient Babylon, and in the modern age, they are the one’s of whom people are speaking when they refer to ‘The Illuminati’ (though the Illuminati is, to an extent, a separate entity unto itself, having been founded in 1776 in Bavaria by Adam Weishaupt per the order of the Jesuits).  Essentially, these families, along with the Jesuits and those within the P2 Masonic Lodge, consider themselves to be the ‘Illumined ones’ or the ‘keepers of the secrets of the ages’.  They have wealth which stretches into the trillions of dollars.  Throughout the course of the 20th and the 21st centuries, it has been the manipulation of the global financial system that has allowed these entities to continue to rule as tyrants and shadow masters.  READ MORE

Danny Vendramini ~ Them & Us: Neanderthal Predation Theory ~ Red Ice Creations

May 12, 2013
Danny Vendramini is a theoretical biologist, specializing in the evolution of behavior and human origins. He is the author of Them and Us: How Neanderthal predation created modern humans. Danny is also a member of the Independent Scholars Association of Australia Inc. He joins us to discuss his theory of human origins. He begins with a reassessment of Neanderthal behavioral ecology. He’ll explain Neanderthal Predation (NP) theory revealing that Neanderthals were ‘apex’ predators who resided at the top of the food chain and everything, including humans was their prey. Danny explains how Neanderthals are the origins of our deep source of fear. Vendramini suggests that Eurasian Neanderthals abducted, raped and interbred with early humans in the Middle East producing hybrids. We’ll discuss sexual predation, the most important aspect of his theory, when mating drastically changed bringing forth romantic love. He also explains how Neanderthals jump started our evolution into the modern human. In the second hour we’ll speak more on the disappearance of the Neanderthal from the historical record. Danny continues on selection pressure for strategic adaptations, including cognitive ability, male aggression, language capacity, gender roles and creativity. We end the hour on the sad consequences of predation, deeply engrained into our consciousness. He explains how awareness is fundamental.
