Fascism in America and the GOP’s Right-Wing

My conservative friends and readers, please tell me how these people represent a fair and democratic America? Tell me where in the constitution corporations rights usurp that of the people.  Why is you are blind to the fact that these TeaParty and Republican candidates are the proverbial wolf in lambs clothing? I would really like an answer to that.

Can you not see they are fascists, plain and simple. Before you answer that, if you don’t know what fascism is look it up – Hitler and Mussolini were fascists.  Seriously now, if you don’t understand the “ism’s” and what fascism is, or have forgotten please study political science for a refresher because fascism is the road  where the Repulicons and Teabaggers are taking us. This is a very dangerous situation. And I’m not being mean, I’m just stating a fact that seems to escape a lot of people on the right, people who have fallen for the emotional talking points the right wing media has used to propagandize conservatives followers for over 30 years now.

I’m really only trying to bring people together under one  progressive banner, for the best interest of the working and middle class. Not the wealthy, fascist corporations who own the entire conservative party and many of the Democrats too.

Once again, please listen to Norman Goldman and also go to his website for the four point plan to save America. He’s trying to bring everyone together under the same party, even if it means creating a new political party. Also Randi Rhodes helps so many people understand whats happening and I hear it everyday when people call in to thank her for being on the side of the working people, the same people who are my readers.

Look the truth is that we all really want the same things in life, but the Republicans have spent 30 years dividing us by calling us names and denigrating anyone who cared about people or the environment. They turned us into something evil and bad, when it couldn’t be further from the truth.  Dividing America was the plan when the right wing launched the Fox News media empire in conjunction with Murdoch, America’s #1 brainwashing machine. Divide and conquer, the oldest game in the world.

Research has shown that people who get their news from Fox media are the least informed segment of society, because Fox constantly lies and distorts the facts. Besides its not news, it’s entertainment thrown in with editorializing current events. The news doesn’t take sides, it only states the facts.

And no Mitt, corporations are not people and were not recognized under the constitution as people – only by fascist Supreme Court Judges. Please, if you don’t understand what these terms mean then study fascism we’re already there and need to be brought back under a democracy. These candidates the Republicon party are offering up surely aren’t the answer, they are puppets for the corporate ruling elite who don’t want to pay their fair share. These people are waging class warfare on the middle class in an attempt to destroy the social safety net, and they successfully created a whole new class of people who are poverty stricken after eight years of Bush. And now they want to cut all benefits to people who need them the most and then steal the last traunches of money left to steal – Social Security, Medicare and Pension Funds.

I guess the corporate elite weren’t happy after the crash in 2008 when there weren’t long lines of people waiting to get bread rations and that things didn’t look as bad as they did in the Great Depression because of the social safety net created by FDR. So now they want to destroy it so when they crash the economy again, they will have a whole new class of desperate serfs willing to work for $5 a day and they can have a  third world nation full of cheap labor. With people so desperate they will have to send their children 5 yrs and older to work to help pay the bills.

Why do you think they’re eliminating child labor laws in some states? Yep, in Georgia children 6-11 yrs are now having to work the fields picking blueberry’s because their racist governor ran off all the immigrant farm workers. You have to wonder if that wasn’t the plan. Oh yeah, almost forgot that in Washington state 6-11yr old children are working the fields picking strawberry’s!  And they’re perfect for the job because they have small hands and can get to the berrys easier. If you need a source, I heard that on the Mike Malloy show – someone who’s actually honest because he comes from the old school of integrity, which seems to be non-existent on the right nowadays.

Folks this is not about budgeting, if they seriously wanted to balance the budget they would RAISE REVENUES by making corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share with a little “tax fairness” instead of doing it off the backs of the poor and middle class. They would also close corporate loop holes and tax corporations for off shoring jobs, companies that are sitting on trillions of dollars in profits and can afford to pay their fair share!! And anyone who believes the propaganda from right wing that says anything different is F’**KING BRAINWASHED, SELF SERVING AND UN-AMERICAN!! I’m sorry but you’re misinformed by people who are paid millions of dollars a year to lie to you, so please stop listening to right wing, mainstream media!

Stop drinking the koolaid and wake up to the fact that the only people who are really telling the truth anymore are Comedy Central’s John Stewart and Steven Colbert, the Progressive talk radio hosts and the alternative news on the internet.  Mass media is not where you find truth anymore.

I spent way more time on this than originally intended, but my conservative readers have their knickers in a twist because I keep posting information about what’s going on with the right wing.  Well, it’s the dangerous ugly truth that’s destroying this country and as a truthseeker I call the shots as I see them.

No decision made in hate or fear is EVER a good one, and everything the GOP’s right wing stands for is hate for Obama and anyone on the left. So much so that in 2.5 years they have refused to vote on one single bill that would have helped Americans get out of this mess and they vowed not to do anything to help Obama/America because that would hurt their chances of winning the 2012 election! Where’s the jobs bill now that they took over Congress? Nowhere in sight.

How can people who hate government ever be expected to do a good job at governing and why would you hire someone who hates the job they’re applying for? Think about it. And how can anyone vote for a party that has done nothing but try to destroy this country since 2000? They set this country running off a cliff and handed it to Obama in 2008, then only months later as America was crashing they went “See, he did it….wahhhh it’s Obama’s fault!!?  What fucking liars. That soooo pisses me off that you people are so blind you can’t even see the game, or are you on electric koolaid or what? My God wake up and stop voting against your own best interests.

Rick Perry Says Social Security and Medicare Are Unconstitutional

And you would vote for these people, total complete fascists? Why that’s about as un-American as it gets. You really do need a refresher course in politics because you’re all way off course, especially if you can’t see that Obama is more Republican than he is a Democrat in his policy making decisions. That’s what has us Progressives upset – there’s no one representing the needs of the people, just the corporate elite.
Look I love you guys and really appreciate everyone’s support here, we all need to be on the same page and stop the decisiveness and name calling. I’m guilty where it comes to RepubliCON because I’m calling out the politicians for being CON men/women since every single one of them are lying and shilling for the corporations, they could care less about you or the welfare of the people who vote them in. They’re shilling for money and you I don’t have that kind of money  so we can go to hell as far as they are concerned.
You haven’t been exposed to people who tell the truth or explain how government really works behind the scenes and the games that are played to push laws through. Even if you don’t agree with Randi Rhodes on everything most people really learn a lot from her about how things work in DC, she provides facts and backs up everything she says with information on her homework page that you can follow up on for your self. Don’t just sit there believing everything you hear, you have to do the mental gymnastics and research what’s happening for yourself.
Learn about ALEC and the Koch Brothers control of the Teabagger and Republicon party’s. Because these people are lying to you and do not have your best interests at heart – you can take that statement to the bank. Once again, below we have the wolf in the lambs clothing getting ready for the slaughter.

Romney Defends Raising Retirement Age To Protect Corporate Tax Breaks: ‘Corporations Are People, My Friend’

By Ian Millhiser on Aug 11, 2011 at 12:51 pm

Mitt Romney Thinks These Are People

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) just completed a damaging campaign stop in Iowawhere audience members responded angrily to his plans, and Romney frequently responded belligerently to their anger. In one of the most contentious exchanges, Romney defended his belief that we “should consider a higher retirement age” for Social Security and Medicare to preserve tax breaks for corporations:

ROMNEY: There’s various ways of [preserving Social Security and Medicare’s solvency]. One is we could raise taxes on people. That’s not the way . . .

AUDIENCE: Corporations! Corporations!

ROMNEY: Corporations are people, my friend.

AUDIENCE: No they’re not.

ROMNEY: Of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to people. Where do you think it goes?

AUDIENCE: It goes into your pocket!

ROMNEY: Whose pockets? Whose pockets? People’s pockets. Human beings, my friend.

Watch it:

Romney’s antagonists are right that corporate money flows right into Romney’s pockets. Indeed, Romney has taken more money from corporate and other lobbyists than all the other GOP candidates put together, and this will likely only be the beginning for Romney if he becomes the GOP nominee.

Ever since the Supreme Court revealed that it shares Romney’s inability to distinguish between corporations and actual human beings, corporations have lined up to buy GOP victories in elections across the country. After Citizens United, conservative secret donors outspent progressives 8 to 1 in the 2010 election cycle.

So Romney has good reason to favor tax breaks for corporations over maintaining the current Medicare and Social Security retirement age — corporate America is doing a whole lot more to line his pockets than America’s seniors ever will.

The Cancer ravaging US democracy is the American Legislative Exchange Council, ALEC

Some of the biggest losers in US history are in control of our government, that’s where much of the chaos and destruction has come from.  Our country and our way of life is under attack by a secret organization called the American Legislative Council, ALEC’s whose plans to privatize America are unfolding, along with a war against our civil rights. Here’s basic information and the FAQ’s on this sinister, shadowy organization where the nasty, vile cancer in our democracy resides.

PLEASE spend time learning the details and help get the word out so we can remove this cancer from our midst and get America going in the right direction again, fascist free!  We must turn off the TV and do the mental gymnastics needed to have a real understanding of what’s going on, they control the news media so you won’t get the information there.

Through ALEC, Global Corporations Are Scheming to Rewrite YOUR Rights and Boost THEIR Revenue

Business money

Through the corporate-funded American Legislative Exchange Council, global corporations and state politicians vote behind closed doors to try to rewrite state laws that govern your rights. These so-called “model bills” reach into almost every area of American life and often directly benefit huge corporations. Through ALEC, corporations have “a VOICE and a VOTE” on specific changes to the law that are then proposed in your state. DO YOU?

ALEC FAQ’s

What is ALEC?

ALEC is not a lobby; it is not a front group. It is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, behind closed doors, corporations hand state legislators the changes to the law they desire that directly benefit their bottom line. Along with legislators, corporations have membership in ALEC. Corporations sit on all nine ALEC task forces and vote with legislators to approve “model” bills. They have their own corporate governing board which meets jointly with the legislative board. (ALEC says that corporations do not vote on the board.) Corporations fund almost all of ALEC’s operations. Participating legislators, overwhelmingly conservative Republicans, then bring those proposals home and introduce them in statehouses across the land as their own brilliant ideas and important public policy innovations—without disclosing that corporations crafted and voted on the bills. ALEC boasts that it has over 1,000 of these bills introduced by legislative members every year, with one in every five of them enacted into law. ALEC describes itself as a “unique,” “unparalleled” and “unmatched” organization. We agree. It is as if a state legislature had been reconstituted, yet corporations had pushed the people out the door.

Who funds ALEC?

More than 98% of ALEC’s revenues come from sources other than legislative dues, such as corporations, corporate trade groups, and corporate foundations. Each corporate member pays an annual fee of between $7,000 and $25,000 a year, and if a corporation participates in any of the nine task forces, additional fees apply, from $2,500 to $10,000 each year. ALEC also receives direct grants from corporations, such as $1.4 million from ExxonMobil from 1998-2009. It has also received grants from some of the biggest foundations funded by corporate CEOs in the country, such as: the Koch family Charles G. Koch Foundation, the Koch-managed Claude R. Lambe Foundation, the Scaife family Allegheny Foundation, the Coors family Castle Rock Foundation, to name a few. Less than 2% of ALEC’s funding comes from “Membership Dues” of $50 per year paid by state legislators, a steeply discounted price that may run afoul of state gift bans.

Is it nonpartisan as claimed?

ALEC describes itself as a non-partisan, non-profit organization. The facts show that it currently has one Democrat out of 104 legislators in leadership positions. ALEC members, speakers, alumni, and award winners are a “who’s who” of the extreme right. ALEC has given awards to: Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, George H.W. Bush, Charles and David Koch, Richard de Vos, Tommy Thompson, Gov. John Kasich, Gov. Rick Perry, Congressman Mark Foley (intern sex scandal), and Congressman Billy Tauzin. ALEC alumni include: Speaker of the House John Boehner, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Congresswoman Michelle Bachman, Congressman Joe Wilson, (who called President Obama a “liar” during the State of the Union address), former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, former House Speaker Tom DeLay, Andrew Card, Donald Rumsfeld (1985 Chair of ALEC’s Business Policy Board), Governor Scott Walker, Governor Jan Brewer, and more. Featured speakers have included: Milton Friedman, Newt Gingrich, Dick Cheney, Dan Quayle, George Allen, Jessie Helms, Pete Coors, Governor Mitch Daniels and more.

Is it lobbying?

In most ordinary people’s view, handing bills to legislators so they can introduce them is the very definition of lobbying. ALEC says “no lobbying takes place.” The current chairman of ALEC’s corporate board is W. Preston Baldwin III, until recently a lobbyist and the Vice President of State Government Affairs at UST Inc., a tobacco firm now owned by Altria/Phillip Morris USA. Altria is advancing a very short, specific bill to change the way moist tobacco products (such as fruit flavored “snus”) are taxed– to make it cheaper and more attractive to young tobacco users according to health experts. In fact, 20 of the 24 corporate representatives on ALEC’s “Private Enterprise Board” are lobbyists representing major firms such as Koch Industries, Bayer, GlaxoSmithKline, Wal-Mart and Johnson and Johnson.

ALEC makes old-fashioned lobbying obsolete. Once legislators return to their state with corporate-sponsored ALEC legislation in hand, the legislators themselves become “super-lobbyists” for ALEC’s corporate agenda, cutting out the middleman. Yet ALEC enjoys a 501(c)(3) classification, which allows it to keep its tax-exempt status while accepting grants from foundations, corporations, and other donors. In our view, the activities that corporate members engage in should be considered lobbying by the IRS, and the entity that facilitates that effort to influence state law, ALEC, should also be considered to be engaged predominantly in lobby-related activities, not simply “educational” activities. Re-classifying ALEC as primarily engaged in lobbying facilitation would mean that donations to it would not count as tax-deductible for businesses and foundations. Common Cause filed a complaint with the IRS on July 14, 2011, setting forth evidence supporting its complaint that ALEC is engaged in lobbying despite its claims to do no lobbying.

Is it legal?

ALEC’s operating model raises many ethical and legal concerns. Each state has a different set of ethics laws or rules. The presence of lobbyists alone may cause ethics problems for some state legislators. Wisconsin, for instance, generally requires legislators who go to events with registered lobbyists to pay on their own dime, yet in many states, legislators use public funds to attend ALEC meetings. According to one study, $3 million in public funds was spent to attend ALEC meetings in one year. Some legislators use their personal funds and are reimbursed by ALEC. Such “scholarships” may be disclosed if gifts are required to be reported. But should the legislators be allowed to accept this money when lobbyists are present at the meeting? Still other legislators use their campaign funds to go and are again reimbursed by ALEC; in some states, campaign funds are only allowed to be used to attend campaign events.

In short, many state ethics codes might consider the free vacation, steeply discounted membership fees, free day care or travel scholarships to be “gifts” that should be disallowed or disclosed.

A.L.E.C. – Undermining and Destroying Everything Good in America for the Purpose of Privatization

For everyone who believes in and votes for Republicans or Teabaggers, this is what you’re voting for –  a completely anti-human, fascist agenda. There’s not one organization on the left that’s structured, funded and aimed at destroying our democracy and everything that made this country a great place to live. Come on people, we have all got to work together to expose this agenda, get the money out of politics and put our democracy back together with good, honest people who will work hard for the best interest of the average American. Not the filthy rich elite and trans-national corporations.

If you agree that the policy’s below are corrosive to our democracy, please help expose this agenda. These freaks are close to a compete take over if they’re not stopped soon…

ALEC’s Legislative Agenda Exposed

Health, Pharmaceuticals, and Safety Net Programs on the chopping block.

Efforts to Limit Patient Rights and Undermine Safety Net Programs for Older Americans and Others

Health, Pharmaceuticals, and Safety Net Programs
The bills on this page reveal how ALEC corporations and their legislative partners would privatize Medicare, deregulate health insurers, protect negligent doctors, and cut holes in the safety net. These anti-patient “model bills” advance the interests of global drug companies and the health insurance industry, while eroding the rights and health of Americans. Through ALEC, corporations have both a VOICE and a VOTE on specific changes to our public health laws through these model bills. Do you?

Rewriting the Rules about the Environment, Energy, and Agriculture

Environment, Energy, and Agriculture
This page shows how bills pushed by ALEC corporations work to undermine environmental protections, limit the ability of local government to manage land use, and protect corporate polluters. These “model bills” and resolutions thwart efforts to address climate change, streamline siting of nuclear power plants, and oppose efforts to address hazardous coal waste. Through ALEC, corporations have both a VOICE and a VOTE on specific changes to state laws on these issues through these model bills. Do you?

Limiting Worker and Consumer Rights, Privatizing Government Services, and Pushing “Free” Trade

Worker Rights, Consumer Rights, Trade, Pensions, and Privatization
Through the corporate-funded American Legislative Exchange Council, global corporations and state politicians are voting behind closed doors to try to rewrite state laws. Bills on this page limit workers rights and drain labor unions of resources for protecting employees, undermine consumer protections, favor the Wall Street financial agenda, limit the ability to cap exorbitant interest rates on credit cards and big bank fees. The bills and resolutions here also attempt to funnel tax dollars to for-profit corporations through privatization schemes and push the “free trade” agenda that has shipped good-paying American jobs overseas. Through ALEC, corporations have both a VOICE and a VOTE on specific state laws to change worker and consumer rights through these model bills. Do you?

Increasing Profits for School Companies, Undermining Teachers, and Promoting “Conservatives” on Campus

Privatizing Public Education, Higher Ed Policy, and Teachers
This page reveals how ALEC bills would privatize public education, crush teacher’s unions, and push American universities to the right. Among other things, these bills make education a private commodity rather than a public good, and reverse America’s modern innovation of promoting learning and civic virtue through public schools staffed with professional teachers for children from all backgrounds. Through ALEC, corporations have both a VOICE and a VOTE on specific state laws to change the American education system. Do you?

Efforts to limit democratic participation, facilitate big money in politics, and override the federal government.

Democracy, Voter Rights, and Federal Power
This page shows how ALEC bills or resolutions would disenfranchise Americans and give corporations even more power to use their vast financial resources to influence elections in our democracy. These “model bills” include the infamous “Voter ID” bills pushed through this year by new governors, many of whom have ties to ALEC. Through ALEC, corporations have both a VOICE and a VOTE on specific state laws affecting your voting rights and elections through these model bills. Do you?

Efforts to Reshape the Tax Code to Benefit Big Business and the Ultra Rich

Taxes and Budgets
This page documents how bills pushed by ALEC corporations would create tax giveaways to Big Business, give tax breaks to the richest, and eviscerate state legislatures’ ability to raise revenue through tax increases. These “model bills” and resolutions also push for extending the Bush tax cuts and attempt to use temporary legislative majorities to tie the hands of future majorities to raise taxes to meet citizens’ needs. Through ALEC, corporations have both a VOICE and a VOTE on specific state laws through these model bills. Do you?

http://www.alecexposed.org/wiki/Taxes_and_Budgets

Efforts to Rewrite Americans’ Rights; Changes that Imprison More People for Longer and Make More Money

Guns, Prisons, Crime, and Immigration
This page documents how bills pushed by ALEC corporations result in taxpayers subsidizing the profits of the private prison industry by putting more people in for-profit prisons and keeping them in jail for longer. The bills also would put more guns on streets and interfere with local law enforcement decisions about how best to interact with immigrant communities. Through ALEC, corporations have both a VOICE and a VOTE on specific state laws through these model bills. Do you?

Grover Norquist
History: 101 – It’s a dirty job, but someone must do it…

Editors note: It was Grover Norquist who first coined the term “Shrink government so small you could drown it in a bathtub”, and if there’s  anyone who can make politicians fear for their political careers it’s Norquist.  He has the power to ruin their careers and has no problem threatening to “primary” them if they break their loyalty oath by raising taxes on the corporate elite. It’s men like Grover that give politics a bad name.

Until we take corporate campaign donations out of politics this is what we get – people who will use their influence to manipulate, bribe and even threaten politicians to do their bidding.

And for those of you who think I’m biased against the right – well you’re right,  I am.  But I’m biased against all the psychopath’s like Grover Norquist. The people who are unethical, immoral bullies – con artists that are literally taking America down the path towards fascism.  There isn’t any organization or political party on the left that’s as dangerous to our Democracy, or that parallels the fascist NAZI agenda coming from the right wing.

Yes, admittedly there are corrupt Democrats, but they are also controlled by the same corrupt  influences that have infiltrated the right wing. The Democrats don’t have an entire news station propagandizing their message and brainwashing viewers, like Fox News.  If you think MSNBC is liberal, think again.

MSNBC is now owned by Comcast which has neo-conservative ownership, so now the right wing can manipulate the message and gradually pull people on the left toward the right end of the spectrum. See how it works?  Overall the country has slowly been pulled more and more to the conservative right in political ideology over the last 30 years, and never even noticed what was happening.  Just like the frog in boiling water – by the time the masses notice what’s going on, it may be too late to jump out of the pot.

Over the last 20 years the NEO-conservatives purchased almost every media outlet in the country, so that now the entire mass media is in the hands of 3-5 people. As a result Republican’s control the message.

There is a small group of people on the right who have been running the show for 30 years and what’s happening now was planned long ago. Norquist has been influencing the show from behind the scenes the entire while with the likes of people like Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and the Bush crime family.

All I’m attempting to do is bridge the divide to bring us all together. It’s people like LimBeck, Hannity and Levine who were the ones that started calling names,  being the bullies and accusing the Democrats of being unpatriotic or un-American. Treating people who are liberal minded like pond scum, calling them names like “maggot infested hipppies” . Then, when someone like myself starts playing smashmouth football right back, the whining and complaining is unbelievable…and the worst name I’ve called was Republicon and Teabaggers?! I also said they were acting like wackodoodles and were bat crap crazy, but even old school “respectable” Republicans are saying that.

Anyway I have no problem calling out the Democrats, if you have information from a CREDIBLE source send me a link and I’ll be happy to post it too. This is about facts and the truth, nothing personal.  The problem is finding credible right wing media outlets, Fox News is a great example of news media lacking credibility in methods of gathering and publishing news stories. After the scandals in London broke with two murdered whistleblowers showing up, people need to wake up to the fact that Fox and all of Murdoch’s media holdings are terrorist news organizations – and they’re at the top of the right wing news media pyramid. If you’ve been reading their material for a long period of time,  you really need to face the fact that the information you have received over the years is tainted and your view of the political reality in America is skewed at best. There are good people trying to turn all of this around, but it has to start at the grass roots level with you and me. We have to take over the Democratic party from the inside at the local level and run for office. Go to NormanGoldman.com and read his four point plan to rescue America, and get back to me…thank you for your time, I honestly didn’t intend for a long rant. Annette

Perhaps a case of selective amnesia explains the exalted platform given to Grover Norquist both in the media and among congressional Republicans. Just a few years ago, Norquist was a central figure in the GOP culture of corruption and cronyism that helped Democrats retake control of Congress in 2006.

From his longtime friendship with Karl Rove to leadership of the K Street Project with convicted former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) to the money-laundering scandal involving convicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Norquist has long wielded unchecked power in Washington. Norquist and his Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) are key players in an influential web of GOP donors, operatives and organizations working to implement a Republican agenda and consolidate power benefiting their special-interest friends. ATR funding reportedly comes from right-wing organizations like Olin and Scaife — conservative foundations set up by millionaires and billionaires like the Koch brothers — to support a set of policy goals favorable to their corporations. ATR has also received significant funding from the tobacco, gambling and alcohol industries.

It was Norquist, working with then-Majority Whip DeLay, who launched the scheme known as the K Street Project in 1995. Run out of ATR offices, it controlled access to key government figures and rewarded GOP cronies by pressuring Washington lobbying firms to hire Republican operatives. Those who were loyal and willing to “pay to play” were granted access. As part of this cozy relationship, corporate “friends” were able to participate in the drafting of legislation affecting their industries. (Can you say Dick Cheney energy task force?) The Senate liaison to the project who met regularly with Norquist to review openings and candidates at lobbying firms was none other than former Pennsylvania Senator and current GOP presidential contender Rick Santorum.

During this time, Norquist worked with Abramoff, Ralph Reed and Abramoff’s partner Michael Scanlon in a money-laundering scandal that bilked millions of dollars from Indian tribes. Abramoff and Scanlon grossly overcharged the tribes for work on casino gambling issues, using Norquist’s ATR and the ATR Foundation as a pass-through to support their lobbying effort.  Contributions were made to ATR, which then skimmed a fee off the top before passing the money on to Ralph Reed and other anti-gambling activists.

In one example, the Choctaw Indian tribe in Mississippi paid Americans for Tax Reform $1.1 million in 1999. Norquist passed the money to Reed, who ran the powerful Christian Coalition and a for-profit political consulting company. Reed used the money to run a religious-based anti-gambling campaign with the veiled purpose of preventing a rival tribe from cutting in on the Choctaw casino business.

This allowed Norquist, Reed and Abramoff to disguise the fact that the money used to fund anti-gambling activities was generated through Indian gambling. Abramoff utilized Norquist’s cachet and access, referring to him once in an email as a “hard-won asset.”

Investigations in 2006 by the Senate Indian Affairs and the Senate Finance committees (then chaired by Republican Sens. John McCain, Ariz., and Chuck Grassley, Iowa, respectively) found that Norquist not only used ATR as a cash “conduit” for Abramoff’s clients, but that ATR and four other conservative nonprofit groups “appear to have perpetrated a fraud” on American taxpayers.

Which raises the question: Just what is it that 236 GOP House and 41 GOP senators fear from an operative known to be involved in illegal activity involving taxpayer fraud and influence peddling?
