Slaughterbots: When unstoppable small drones kill

Robots are terrifying. Nobody will say the contrary except robot scientists or somebody who has been replaced by a terrifying robot. Slaughterbots are totally crazy. Think we’re overreacting? But then, if robots are so harmless, explain why many of the world’s leading AI researchers and humanitarian organizations are concerned about the potentially catastrophic consequences of allowing lethal autonomous weapons to be developed:

Slaughterbots is a disturbing short film by the group behind the “Campaign to Stop Killer Robots“. But sorry guys, it’s too late, you can’t actually stop autonomous weapons anymore.

Slaughterbots, autonomous weapon, killer drones, These unstoppable drones will kill you
Slaughterbots: These unstoppable drones will kill you

And for anyone who thinks little drones like these are not possible… machine learning has already helped small drones teach themselves to perform aerial maneuvers that human controllers cannot possibly perform. SO it’s clearly on its way… And it’s terrifying.

The MATH of time travel REVEALED: Scientists says we CAN travel in time

published on Earth We Are One, on April 28, 2017

According to a new study, time travel is—mathematically speaking—possible. A researcher has concluded that space should NOT be divided into three dimensions—where time is separated. Instead, four dimensions need to be imagined simultaneously as a space-time continuum in which the different directions are connected.

Time-Travel-1

While time travel has only been possible in popular movies and books, a scientist has found that in reality, there’s more to time travel than what we previously believed.

A researcher has created a new, revolutionary model that reveals—mathematically—time travel is in fact possible. While it seems to work mathematically, experts have yet to come up with the ‘right’ materials to create a working ‘time machine’.

The study was recently published in the IOPscience Journal Classical and Quantum Gravity and argues that mathematically speaking we can travel in time:

In this paper we present geometry which has been designed to fit a layperson’s description of a ‘time machine’. It is a box which allows those within it to travel backwards and forwards through time and space, as interpreted by an external observer. Timelike observers travel within the interior of a ‘bubble’ of geometry which moves along a circular, acausal trajectory through spacetime. If certain timelike observers inside the bubble maintain a persistent acceleration, their worldlines will close.

Our analysis includes a description of the causal structure of our spacetime, as well as a discussion of its physicality. The inclusion of such a bubble in a spacetime will render the background spacetime non-orientable, generating additional consistency constraints for formulations of the initial value problem. The spacetime geometry is geodesically incomplete, contains naked singularities, and requires exotic matter. (Source)

Ben Tippett, a mathematics and physics instructor at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus has revealed that time travel is at least mathematically possible.

“People think of time travel as something of fiction, and we tend to think it’s not possible because we don’t actually do it. But mathematically, it is possible,” revealed Tippett,

According to a newly-published study, Tippet concludes that space should NOT be divided into three dimensions—where time is separated. Instead, Tippett says four dimensions need to be imagined simultaneously as a space-time continuum in which the different directions are connected. Time travel.

Based on Einstein’s theory—the researchers argues that the curvature of space-time is responsible for the curved orbits of the planets in the universe.

The researcher argues that if space-time was not ‘curved’ planets in the universe would travel in a straight line.

Imagine yourself standing next to a MASSIVE STAR. There, space-time geometry becomes curved making all straight trajectories of nearby cosmic bodies to bend, following a curved path around the star.

“The time direction of the space-time surface also shows curvature. There is evidence showing the closer to a black hole we get, time moves slower,” says Tippett. “My model of a time machine uses the curved space-time — to bend time into a circle for the passengers, not in a straight line. That circle takes us back in time.”

For the study, Tippett came up with a mathematical model called Traversable Acausal Retrograde Domain in Space-time or more charismatically called TARDIS.  Tippett describes it as a bubble of space-time geometry which is able to carry contents back and forth through space. This ‘bubble’ moves through space-time at a speed greater than the speed of light times 8, which consequently allows it to move backwards in time.

“Studying space-time is both fascinating and problematic. And it’s also a fun way to use math and physics,” says Tippett. “Experts in my field have been exploring the possibility of mathematical time machines since 1949. And my research presents a new method for doing it.”

However, while the researcher says its mathematically possible to travel in time, he doubts that anyone will ever build a working time machine in the near future.

“HG Wells popularized the term ‘time machine’ and he left people with the thought that an explorer would need a ‘machine or special box’ to actually accomplish time travel,” Tippett says.

“While it is mathematically feasible, it is not yet possible to build a space-time machine because we need materials – which we call exotic matter – to bend space-time in these impossible ways, but they have yet to be discovered,” concluded Tippett.

Groundbreaking solar device pulls water from DRY air

by JD Heyes, published on Natural News, on April 27, 2017

Man-Thirst-Desert-Water-Bottle-Reach

(Natural News) What if no matter where you lived, and under any circumstances, you would never be without life-sustaining water? That day has arrived, thanks to breakthrough technology.

As reported by Science Daily, researchers envision a future where every home, no matter where it is located, has the ability to simply pull water in from the air, even those homes located in dry, desert-like climates. Even more interesting, the sun powers the device.

The so-called “water harvester,” which is solar-powered, was showcased recently in the journal Science. A demonstration of the device in mid-April showed that with only ambient sunlight it can extract liters of water from the air, even in humidity as low as 20 percent.

Science Daily noted that the device was built by researchers and developers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is constructed using a metal-organic framework (MOF), a special kind of material that was made at the University of California-Berkeley.

“This is a major breakthrough in the long-standing challenge of harvesting water from the air and low humidity,” said Omar Yaghi, a faculty scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, holder of the James and Neeltje Tretter chair in chemistry at UC-Berkeley, and a senior co-author of the paper.

“There is no other way to do that right now, except by using extra energy,” Yaghi continued. “Your electric dehumidifier at home ‘produces’ very expensive water.” (RELATED: The Best Ways To Filter Your Water So You Don’t Get Sick)

The paper noted that researchers were able to pull some 3 quarts of water out of the air in 20-30 percent humidity over a period of 12 hours. They used a single kilogram (2.2. pounds) of MOF, and tested the device in real-world conditions – on rooftops at MIT, which is located in Cambridge, Mass., near Boston.

Some say the device will be perfect for those who either wish to live off-grid, those who currently do – and those who, for some reason in the future, have no choice but to live off-grid and need clean water to drink.

“One vision for the future is to have water off-grid, where you have a device at home running on ambient solar for delivering water that satisfies the needs of a household,” Yaghi – who is also the founding director of the Berkeley Global Science Institute, co-founder of the Kavli Energy NanoSciences Institute and the California Research Alliance by BASF – said. “To me, that will be made possible because of this experiment. I call it personalized water.”

Science Daily noted further:

Yaghi invented metal-organic frameworks more than 20 years ago, combining metals like magnesium or aluminum with organic molecules in a tinker-toy arrangement to create rigid, porous structures ideal for storing gases and liquids. Since then, more than 20,000 different MOFs have been created by researchers worldwide.

Other similar structures can retrieve carbon dioxide from flues, separate petrochemicals and other uses.

It’s unknown what widespread effect the device may have on overall climate patterns and weather, but many believe it is a remarkable invention that can finally bring needed water to parts of the world where it is otherwise scarce.

Also, there is that off-the-grid utility that will no doubt be snatched up by more than a few preppers. (RELATED: Know And Understand These Water Survival Myths So You Can Better Protect Your Family)

“This work offers a new way to harvest water from air that does not require high relative humidity conditions and is much more energy efficient than other existing technologies,” said Evelyn Wang, a mechanical engineer at MIT.

There is much more work to be done. The current device is only capable of absorbing about 20 percent of its weight in water, but Yaghi believes further development will raise that to 40 percent using other MOF materials. He also believes the materials can be adjusted to become more effective at water harvesting in lower or higher humidity environments.

“It’s not just that we made a passive device that sits there collecting water,” said Yaghi, “we have now laid both the experimental and theoretical foundations so that we can screen other MOFs, thousands of which can be made, to find better materials.”

Perhaps such devices will be coming to a prepper store at some point in the future.

Scientists have confirmed a brand new phase of matter: time crystals

Kent Schimke/Flickr

Constant motion without energy.

FIONA MACDONALD
28 JAN 2017

For months now, there’s been speculation that researchers might have finally created time crystals – strange crystals that have an atomic structure that repeats not just in space, but in time, putting them in constant oscillation without energy.

Now it’s official – researchers have just reported in detail how to make and measure these bizarre crystals. And two independent teams of scientists claim they’ve actually created time crystals in the lab based off this blueprint, confirming the existence of an entirely new phase of matter.

The discovery might sound pretty abstract, but it heralds in a whole new era in physics – for decades we’ve been studying matter that’s defined as being ‘in equilibrium’, such as metals and insulators.

But it’s been predicted that there are many more strange types of matter out there in the Universe that aren’t in equilibrium that we haven’t even begun to look into, including time crystals. And now we know they’re real.

The fact that we now have the first example of non-equilibrium matter could lead to breakthroughs in our understanding of the world around us, as well as new technology such as quantum computing.

“This is a new phase of matter, period, but it is also really cool because it is one of the first examples of non-equilibrium matter,” said lead researcher Norman Yao from the University of California, Berkeley.

“For the last half-century, we have been exploring equilibrium matter, like metals and insulators. We are just now starting to explore a whole new landscape of non-equilibrium matter.”

Let’s take a step back for a second, because the concept of time crystals has been floating around for a few years now.

First predicted by Nobel-Prize winning theoretical physicist Frank Wilczek back in 2012, time crystals are structures that appear to have movement even at their lowest energy state, known as a ground state.

Usually when a material is in ground state, also known as the zero-point energy of a system, it means movement should theoretically be impossible, because that would require it to expend energy.

But Wilczek predicted that this might not actually be the case for time crystals.

Normal crystals have an atomic structure that repeats in space – just like the carbon lattice of a diamond. But, just like a ruby or a diamond, they’re motionless because they’re in equilibrium in their ground state.

But time crystals have a structure that repeats in time, not just in space. And it keep oscillating in its ground state.

Imagine it like jelly – when you tap it, it repeatedly jiggles. The same thing happens in time crystals, but the big difference here is that the motion occurs without any energy.

A time crystal is like constantly oscillating jelly in its natural, ground state, and that’s what makes it a whole new phase of matter – non-equilibrium matter. It’s incapable of sitting still.

But it’s one thing to predict these time crystals exist, it’s another entirely to make them, which is where the new study comes in.

Yao and his team have now come up with a detailed blueprint that describes exactly how to make and measure the properties of a time crystal, and even predict what the various phases surrounding the time crystals should be – which means they’ve mapped out the equivalent of the solid, liquid, and gas phases for the new phase of matter.

Published in Physical Review Letters, Yao calls the paper “the bridge between the theoretical idea and the experimental implementation”.

And it’s not just speculation, either. Based on Yao’s blueprint, two independent teams – one from the University of Maryland and one from Harvard – have now followed the instructions to create their own time crystals.

Both of these developments were announced at the end of last year on the pre-print site arXiv.org (here and here), and have been submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Yao is a co-author on both articles.

While we’re waiting for the papers to be published, we need to be skeptical about the two claims. But the fact that two separate teams have used the same blueprint to make time crystals out of vastly different systems is promising.

The University of Maryland’s time crystals were created by taking a conga line of 10 ytterbium ions, all with entangled electron spins.

131711 webChris Monroe, University of Maryland

The key to turning that set-up into a time crystal was to keep the ions out of equilibrium, and to do that the researchers alternately hit them with two lasers. One laser created a magnetic field and the second laser partially flipped the spins of the atoms.

Because the spins of all the atoms were entangled, the atoms settled into a stable, repetitive pattern of spin flipping that defines a crystal.

That was normal enough, but to become a time crystal, the system had to break time symmetry. And observing the ytterbium atom conga line, the researchers noticed it was doing something odd.

The two lasers that were periodically nudging the ytterbium atoms were producing a repetition in the system at twice the period of the nudges, something that couldn’t occur in a normal system.

“Wouldn’t it be super weird if you jiggled the Jell-O and found that somehow it responded at a different period?” said Yao.

“But that is the essence of the time crystal. You have some periodic driver that has a period ‘T’, but the system somehow synchronises so that you observe the system oscillating with a period that is larger than ‘T’.”

Under different magnetic fields and laser pulsing, the time crystal would then change phase, just like an ice cube melting.

131712 webNorman Yao, UC Berkeley

The Harvard time crystal was different. The researchers set it up using densely packed nitrogen vacancy centres in diamonds, but with the same result.

“Such similar results achieved in two wildly disparate systems underscore that time crystals are a broad new phase of matter, not simply a curiosity relegated to small or narrowly specific systems,” explained Phil Richerme from Indiana University, who wasn’t involved in the study, in a perspective piece accompanying the paper.

“Observation of the discrete time crystal… confirms that symmetry breaking can occur in essentially all natural realms, and clears the way to several new avenues of research.”

Yao’s blueprint has been published in Physical Review Lettersand you can see the Harvard time crystal paper here, and the University of Maryland paper here.

Update 31 January 2017: We had previously compared the constant oscillation of the time crystals as being in perpetual motion at ground state, which isn’t accurate. We’ve now corrected this explanation.

It’s ‘digital heroin’: How screens turn kids into psychotic junkies

655554041

Susan* bought her 6-year-old son John an iPad when he was in first grade. “I thought, ‘Why not let him get a jump on things?’ ” she told me during a therapy session. John’s school had begun using the devices with younger and younger grades — and his technology teacher had raved about their educational benefits — so Susan wanted to do what was best for her sandy-haired boy who loved reading and playing baseball.

She started letting John play different educational games on his iPad. Eventually, he discovered Minecraft, which the technology teacher assured her was “just like electronic Lego.” Remembering how much fun she had as a child building and playing with the interlocking plastic blocks, Susan let her son Minecraft his afternoons away.

Modal Trigger

At first, Susan was quite pleased. John seemed engaged in creative play as he explored the cube-world of the game. She did notice that the game wasn’t quite like the Legos that she remembered — after all, she didn’t have to kill animals and find rare minerals to survive and get to the next level with her beloved old game. But John did seem to really like playing and the school even had a Minecraft club, so how bad could it be?

Still, Susan couldn’t deny she was seeing changes in John. He started getting more and more focused on his game and losing interest in baseball and reading while refusing to do his chores. Some mornings he would wake up and tell her that he could see the cube shapes in his dreams.

Although that concerned her, she thought her son might just be exhibiting an active imagination. As his behavior continued to deteriorate, she tried to take the game away but John threw temper tantrums. His outbursts were so severe that she gave in, still rationalizing to herself over and over again that “it’s educational.”

Then, one night, she realized that something was seriously wrong.

“I walked into his room to check on him. He was supposed to be sleeping — and I was just so frightened…”

We now know that those iPads, smartphones and Xboxes are a form of digital drug.

She found him sitting up in his bed staring wide-eyed, his bloodshot eyes looking into the distance as his glowing iPad lay next to him. He seemed to be in a trance. Beside herself with panic, Susan had to shake the boy repeatedly to snap him out of it. Distraught, she could not understand how her once-healthy and happy little boy had become so addicted to the game that he wound up in a catatonic stupor.

There’s a reason that the most tech-cautious parents are tech designers and engineers. Steve Jobs was a notoriously low-tech parent. Silicon Valley tech executives and engineers enroll their kids in no-tech Waldorf Schools. Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page went to no-tech Montessori Schools, as did Amazon creator Jeff Bezos and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.

Many parents intuitively understand that ubiquitous glowing screens are having a negative effect on kids. We see the aggressive temper tantrums when the devices are taken away and the wandering attention spans when children are not perpetually stimulated by their hyper-arousing devices. Worse, we see children who become bored, apathetic, uninteresting and uninterested when not plugged in.

But it’s even worse than we think.

We now know that those iPads, smartphones and Xboxes are a form of digital drug. Recent brain imaging research is showing that they affect the brain’s frontal cortex — which controls executive functioning, including impulse control — in exactly the same way that cocaine does. Technology is so hyper-arousing that it raises dopamine levels — the feel-good neurotransmitter most involved in the addiction dynamic — as much as sex.

This addictive effect is why Dr. Peter Whybrow, director of neuroscience at UCLA, calls screens “electronic cocaine” and Chinese researchers call them “digital heroin.” In fact, Dr. Andrew Doan, the head of addiction research for the Pentagon and the US Navy — who has been researching video game addiction — calls video games and screen technologies “digital pharmakeia” (Greek for drug). See link below for video:

That’s right — your kid’s brain on Minecraft looks like a brain on drugs. No wonder we have a hard time peeling kids from their screens and find our little ones agitated when their screen time is interrupted. In addition, hundreds of clinical studies show that screens increase depression, anxiety and aggression and can even lead to psychotic-like features where the video gamer loses touch with reality.

In my clinical work with over 1,000 teens over the past 15 years, I have found the old axiom of “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” to be especially true when it comes to tech addiction. Once a kid has crossed the line into true tech addiction, treatment can be very difficult. Indeed, I have found it easier to treat heroin and crystal meth addicts than lost-in-the-matrix video gamers or Facebook-dependent social media addicts.

That’s right — your kid’s brain on Minecraft looks like a brain on drugs.

According to a 2013 Policy Statement by the American Academy of Pediatrics, 8- to 10 year-olds spend 8 hours a day with various digital media while teenagers spend 11 hours in front of screens. One in three kids are using tablets or smartphones before they can talk. Meanwhile, the handbook of “Internet Addiction” by Dr. Kimberly Young states that 18 percent of college-age internet users in the US suffer from tech addiction.

Once a person crosses over the line into full-blown addiction — drug, digital or otherwise — they need to detox before any other kind of therapy can have any chance of being effective. With tech, that means a full digital detox — no computers, no smartphones, no tablets. The extreme digital detox even eliminates television. The prescribed amount of time is four to six weeks; that’s the amount of time that is usually required for a hyper-aroused nervous system to reset itself. But that’s no easy task in our current tech-filled society where screens are ubiquitous. A person can live without drugs or alcohol; with tech addiction, digital temptations are everywhere.

So how do we keep our children from crossing this line? It’s not easy.

The key is to prevent your 4-, 5- or 8-year-old from getting hooked on screens to begin with. That means Lego instead of Minecraft; books instead of iPads; nature and sports instead of TV. If you have to, demand that your child’s school not give them a tablet or Chromebook until they are at least 10 years old (others recommend 12).

Have honest discussions with your child about why you are limiting their screen access. Eat dinner with your children without any electronic devices at the table — just as Steve Jobs used to have tech-free dinners with his kids. Don’t fall victim to “Distracted Parent Syndrome” — as we know from Social Learning Theory, “Monkey see, monkey do.”

When I speak to my 9-year-old twin boys, I have honest conversations with them about why we don’t want them having tablets or playing video games. I explain to them that some kids like playing with their devices so much, they have a hard time stopping or controlling how much they play. I’ve helped them to understand that if they get caught up with screens and Minecraft like some of their friends have, other parts of their lives may suffer: They may not want to play baseball as much; not read books as often; be less interested in science and nature projects; become more disconnected from their real-world friends. Amazingly, they don’t need much convincing as they’ve seen first-hand the changes that some of their little friends have undergone as a result of their excessive screen time.

Modal Trigger

Developmental psychologists understand that children’s healthy development involves social interaction, creative imaginative play and an engagement with the real, natural world. Unfortunately, the immersive and addictive world of screens dampens and stunts those developmental processes.

We also know that kids are more prone to addictive escape if they feel alone, alienated, purposeless and bored. Thus the solution is often to help kids to connect to meaningful real-life experiences and flesh-and-blood relationships. The engaged child tethered to creative activities and connected to his or her family is less likely to escape into the digital fantasy world. Yet even if a child has the best and most loving support, he or she could fall into the Matrix once they engage with hypnotic screens and experience their addicting effect. After all, about one in 10 people are predisposed towards addictive tendencies.

In the end, my client Susan removed John’s tablet, but recovery was an uphill battle with many bumps and setbacks along the way.

Four years later, after much support and reinforcement, John is doing much better today. He has learned to use a desktop computer in a healthier way, and has gotten some sense of balance back in his life: He’s playing on a baseball team and has several close friends in his middle school. But his mother is still vigilant and remains a positive and proactive force with his tech usage because, as with any addiction, relapse can sneak up in moments of weakness. Making sure that he has healthy outlets, no computer in his bedroom and a nightly tech-free dinner at the dinner table are all part of the solution.

5 Mind-Blowing Spying Technologies ~ Corbett Report

Read the article: https://www.corbettreport.com/?p=17904

Scientists and engineers can spend years of their lives in painstaking trial-and-error experimentation to develop a breakthrough new technology…and the military-industrial complex can find a way to militarize it in mere hours.

Sadly the military aren’t the only ones interested in the latest gadgets and inventions, though. The alphabet soup agencies are equally voracious for innovative new ways to spy on the public. Today let’s examine five of the most amazing technological breakthroughs…that are about to be turned into nightmarish spying tech.

On the Precipice: Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Lead Fight for Energy Independence

“Once again, our grandmother, the Earth, has offered us, her children, the elements we need to survive. Will we listen?”—Russell Means 1939-2012.

According to a new study by NASA, rising temperatures and melting ice sheets are responsible for a redistribution of the Earth’s weight, causing a shift in the way the planet wobbles on its axis.

Warming ocean temperatures, now considered unstoppable, are responsible for unpredictable severe weather patterns, heat waves, drought, floods and reduced food supplies.

Antarctic ice has begun to melt and break apart. The collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet, also considered unstoppable, will eventually contribute to sea level rise by more than 10 feet, scientists warn. This collapse would leave cities such as New York, Boston, Miami and New Orleans, as well as many other cities around the globe, in peril.

If we were to collectively cease the extraction and consumption of fossil fuels today, and shift to alternative sources of clean energy, these changes may only slow, but not stop, the trajectory we are on.

A New Possibility

Living up to the words of Russell Means, the late Oglala Lakota activist and cofounder of the American Indian Movement, members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North Dakota are leading an effort toward energy independence.

This effort, if successful, could serve as a model for how to slow anthropogenic climate disruption.

Their hope is based on a controversial clean energy technology, which is often discredited as conspiracy as it quietly moves into reality.

Low Energy Nuclear Reactions (LENR) is being considered by many to be the future of energy.

LENR is defined by E-Cat World, an industry site based on the work of LENR innovator Andrea Rossi, as “the phenomenon where anomalous amounts of heat are created when certain metals (e.g., nickel, palladium) absorb hydrogen or deuterium and an external stimulus such as heat or an electric current is applied. The reaction takes place at a relatively low temperature and sometimes results in transmutation of elements as well as the production of heat.”

Tim Maloney is an architect and eco-designer who has consulted for NASA, Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Department of Energy and has been an innovator of eco-friendly home designs.

“My personal view is that you and I are cave men, looking out the door of the cave in anticipation of potentially stepping out.” Maloney told Truthout. “I find that to be really good news. Who knows what it feels like on the other side, but I’m looking forward to getting used to it.”

His architecture firm has received awards from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory for creating homes that maintained an efficient relationship to the sun and environment as well as advances in solar energy technology and related building products.

“We really are at the tipping point of the formal acceptance of this technology,” Maloney said. The challenge, he said, is, “How do we introduce something too good to be true?”

The answer, according to one company developing this revolutionary technology, may be to provide it first to the Lakota Nation, which has approached the company about a potential collaboration.

According to Brillouin Energy Corporation (BEC), which is working alongside the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), the company’s “unique form of LENR, the Controlled Electron Capture Reaction (CECR), generates excess thermal energy (heat) by using very small amounts of hydrogen, nickel and electricity for inputs. Hydrogen is loaded, in the form of either a wet electrolyte, or as a gas, into highly engineered metallic cores constructed from nickel inside of a pressure vessel…and catalyzed with electrical charges…generating industrially useful process heat, and no (zero) pollutants of any kind.”

On November 2, 2015, in Washington, DC, BEC held a demonstration for Congress and members of the scientific community of its LENR technology, intended to open up opportunities for discussion of the commercial development of the Brillouin boiler system.

Brillouin’s system is expecting to return 10 watts of thermal energy for every 1 watt of electrical energy input.

At the demonstration, Phyllis Young, a member of the Hunkpapa Lakota and Ihanktonwan Dakota (Hunkpapa Lakota and Ihanktonwan Dakota are different bands of the same Oceti Sakowin-or Sioux Nation) Nations and a co-founder of the activist organization Women of All Red Nations, spoke to the room full of scientists and engineers about the possibility of bringing this energy into our homes.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has endorsed LENR technology, sometimes referred to as “cold-fusion” or, in Brillouin’s case, “controlled electronic capture reaction,” and is seeking funding from the Department of Energy and the Department of Agriculture for the deployment of clean energy projects, education and planning of this technology.

BEC chief executive officer Robert W. George II told Truthout, “We were approached by members of the Lakota Nation. We told them what we were doing and we felt that there is a need there.”

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has proposed that scientists and engineers come to the colleges of the Oceti Sakowin (Great Sioux Nation) to educate and train its members in the application of this technology. Additionally, young college students would get involved by going to SRI and BEC to observe the technology and learn firsthand about its possibilities.

The Hunkpapa Development Corporation was formed, according to Young, by members throughout the Oceti Sakowin to receive grants and begin construction on a series of specialized dome housing units based on a design by David Weinkauf of Two Trees Inc. These units will be based on a model built specifically to house the Brillouin Boiler and will be built on land specifically designated for their construction.

Members of the Oceti Sakowin will be involved in the education, planning and construction of the housing.

“They are a sovereign nation within the United States,” said George. “This will allow housing that they have been building on the reservations to have heat and hot water and the energy independence that would be necessary for them to increase their standard of living.”

Racing such companies as Lockheed Martin Skunk Works division, which also have claimed recent breakthroughs in this area, George explained to Truthout that BEC is only about two years away from a commercial boiler system prototype that a manufacturer could begin reproducing.

Further separating them from the pack, explained George, is BEC’s claim to have designed an “on and off switch” which can control the flow of energy output for their system. “We are not aware of anyone else who has a control system,” George told Truthout.

“You don’t need any fuel,” he said. “There’s no fuel because there’s no combustion going on. So you’ll basically have a boiler which can operate on the Lakota Nation with a tiny amount of electricity which can run off a battery.”

Safety Concerns

Given the ongoing horror of the Fukushima disaster, any mention of the word “nuclear” understandably generates fear and skepticism. LENR technology, however, has not been found to produce any of the harmful waste associated with current forms of nuclear or conventional energy production.

Joseph Zawodny, a senior research scientist with NASA’s Langley Research Center, told Forbes reporter Jeff McMahon that LENR “has the demonstrated ability to produce excess amounts of energy cleanly, without hazardous ionizing radiation, without producing nasty waste.”

“The easiest implementation of this would be for the home. You would have a unit that would replace your water heater. And you would have some sort of cycle to derive electrical energy from that,” Zawodny told McMahon.

In his article on LENR, McMahon quotes Dennis Bushnell, the chief scientist at NASA’s Langley Research Center, as saying that “several labs have blown up studying LENR and windows have melted … indicating when the conditions are right prodigious amounts of energy can be produced and released.”

However, McMahon’s article also includes a response from Chicago physicist Lewis Larsen, who argues that “all such violent energetic events are quite rare — only a handful have ever occurred over the past 20-plus years during the course of literally hundreds of thousands of LENR experiments … and most importantly, NONE of these incidents were caused by a nuclear explosion per se.”

If the research on LENR yields practical results, this technology might even be considered as a possibility for space flight: Doug Wells of the NASA Langley Research Center has proposed a study for LENR-powered spacecraft.

In this proposal, he states, “The purpose of this research is to investigate the potential vehicle performance impact of applying the emergent Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) technology to aircraft propulsion systems. LENR potentially has over 4,000 times the density of chemical energy with zero greenhouse gas or hydrocarbon emissions. This technology could enable the use of an abundance of inexpensive energy to remove active design constraints, leading to new aircraft designs with very low fuel consumption, low noise, and no emissions.”

LENR’s relative safety can be attributed to its slow-moving neutrons. As Extreme Tech explains, “Whereas fission creates fast neutrons (neutrons with energies over 1 megaelectron volt), LENR utilizes neutrons with an energy below 1eV — less than a millionth of the energy of a fast neutron. Whereas fast neutrons create one hell of a mess when they collide with the nuclei of other atoms, LENR’s slow neutrons don’t generate ionizing radiation or radioactive waste. It is because of this sedate gentility that LENR lends itself very well to vehicular and at-home nuclear reactors that provide both heat and electricity.”

An End to Energy Scarcity?

This technology could potentially end the fossil fuel energy industry and usher in a new period that Maloney refers to as the “end of scarcity.”

“It strikes me in the short term as very problematic. The closer this gets the more concerned I am at the level of disruption which this is going to cause,” said Maloney about potential shifts in geopolitical alliances and global interests that an unlimited free energy may create. “But in the long term,” he adds, “an opportunity of unimagined proportion.”

This reality is becoming hard to ignore.

In an unprecedented shift in public discourse, Congress’s National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 brings the subject out of the realm of “junk science” once and for all, while warning about its consequences:

The committee is aware of recent positive developments in developing low-energy nuclear reactions (LENR), which produce ultra-clean, low-cost renewable energy that have strong national security implications. For example, according to the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), if LENR works it will be a ”disruptive technology that could revolutionize energy production and storage.” The committee is also aware of the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency’s (DARPA) findings that other countries including China and India are moving forward with LENR programs of their own and that Japan has actually created its own investment fund to promote such technology. DIA has also assessed that Japan and Italy are leaders in the field and that Russia, China, Israel, and India are now devoting significant resources to LENR development.

Even more explicitly, it goes on to say:

To better understand the national security implications of these developments, the committee directs the Secretary of Defense to provide a briefing on the military utility of recent US industrial base LENR advancements to the House Committee on Armed Services by September 22, 2016. This briefing should examine the current state of research in the United States, how that compares to work being done internationally and an assessment of the type of military applications where this technology could potentially be useful.

Still, not all are convinced. LENR has often been shunned by the scientific community since its original inception, when it was called “cold fusion.” Huw Price, a Bertrand Russell Professor of Philosophy and a fellow of Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, writes, “As a question about sociology, the answer is obvious. Cold fusion is dismissed as pseudoscience, the kind of thing that respectable scientists and science journalists simply don’t talk about (unless to remind us of its disgrace).”

Lakota supporters of this technologyremain undeterred. In Washington, DC, Young spoke about educating young people about LENR as well as the need for her nation to become partners with those in the US who share the desire to cease the dependence on fossil fuels.

Young told Truthout, “Technology has exceeded balance. It has created a toxic environment that is more harmful and damaging to human life. A human life is threatened after three to five days without water. Native People are keepers of Mother Earth. There is a limitless clean energy that we have a duty to create and develop and use for the people.”

The Vision

The idea for the use of LENR by the Lakota originated in 2008, when Russell Means brought the idea of the Lakota Nation being powered by LENR to media ecologist and radio show host James Martinez, who has been working to see it happen ever since.

Martinez had been speaking about the technology on his show when Means heard about it.

“I was initially scared out of my mind,” Martinez told Truthout, about being approached by Means. “It was not going to be an easy task. I didn’t want to let him down.”

Martinez said, “I knew why he was asking me. I knew it was for not only the rise of Native American culture again to where it should be but also for the ethical deployment of the technology through the eyes, ears and hearts of the Lakota people…. They are the real environmentalists.”

“Our energy project is called ‘Wi Waci’, which literally means ‘sun dance.’ Our ceremony is called ‘Wiwáŋyaŋg Wačhípi.’ That refers to our sacred Sun Dance ceremony,” Young explained to Truthout, differentiating the project name from the ceremony of renewal at the heart of her culture.

Young said that she and other Lakota supporters of LENR technology believe that just as the sun warms the Earth every spring and brings life and renewal to the Earth, LENR can also serve a similar purpose, ushering in a new era of life and renewal not only to the Earth, but to the outmoded ways of thinking which have brought us to the precipice we find ourselves on now.

This technology “must be endorsed,” Young said. “It must be funded, invested in, developed, and implemented. Our existing technology has taken its toll on Mother Earth. It’s time to protect her existence. Human survival depends on it.”

CERN DANGERS REVEALED! PAPERCLIP NAZIS AND COSMOLOGY CARTEL – DR. JOSEPH FARRELL & DARK JOURNALIST

Visit http://www.DarkJournalist.com

CERN Hadron Collider Revealed! The Interview You Must See!
Join Dark Journalist as he welcomes back Oxford Scholar and author of the popular Giza Death Star book series Dr. Joseph P. Farrell. His latest book, The Third Way: The Nazi International, European Union and Corporate Fascism, explores the deep political roots and global dangers of the controversial particle physics experiment by CERN called The Hadron Collider, which was set up in Geneva, Switzerland with a massive military style budget of over six billion dollars!

Dr. Farrell’s research exposes CERN’s official story of the so-called “Atom Smasher” Hadron Collider Project, as being ostensibly created for peaceful scientific experiments in particle physics, and reveals that it is actually a dangerous advanced technology project set up for secret military purposes and is seeking the ability to manipulate matter on a galactic scale and possibly even open dimensional doorways.

Strangelets Danger
He cites the massive disturbances in the magnetosphere of the earth when the Hadron Collider is turned on and outlines that it may have serious consequences for physical life on earth and a major impact on the rotation of the planet itself. We also will discover that voices in the scientific community have raised objections that CERN is unsafe due to the potential development of “Strangelets” a distorted potential byproduct of the matter smashing experiments that have been compared to mini black holes that suck in all dense matter and energy. He also shows the undeniable similarity between the CERN Hadron Collider and a Nazi Physics project called The Bell” that was an underground Torsion Physics project built by slave labor and overseen by the top Nazi Scientists to give them a master weapon to rule the world!

Deep State Nazi Connections
Dark Journalist and Dr. Farrell investigate the history of CERN and demonstrate clear links of a post-war Nazi International through the figure of John J. McCloy , lawyer for notorious German corporate conglomerate IG Farben. McCloy was also the Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations and became the American High Commissioner for post World War II Germany. In a controversial action, McCloy helped clear and vet over 70,000 Nazis (yes, 70,000!) helping to utilize their intelligence networks to set up the CIA.

One of the major figures that he cleared was top Nazi legal theorist and prisoner of war Dr. Walter Hallstein who was eventually responsible for helping to set up CERN and who was also a key architect for developing the the Nazi plan for a European Federation that was eventually adopted as the blueprint for the European Union. McCloy, in a strange twist, also served on the Warren Commission to whitewash any Deep State connections to the JFK Assassination. JFK was famously committed to “Smashing the CIA into a thousand pieces” as a way to root out the Nazi infiltration of the agency and regain control over the government from suspected Nazi collaborators like CIA director Allen Dulles.

Revealing, groundbreaking, shocking, unnerving, and rife with controversial, staggering implications of a massive covert military project hiding in plain sight, don’t miss this cutting- edge Dark Journalist Episode.

Top Aerospace Designer Blows Whistle on Secret US Navy Space Battle Fleets ~ Dr Michael Salla

Written by Dr Michael Salla on January 26, 2016.

Navy requested Designs for Cigar Shaped space Carriers

Over a 12 year period beginning in 1951, William Tompkins worked for an above Top Secret think tank within the Douglas Aircraft Company designing kilometer-long antigravity spacecraft covertly requested by the U.S. Navy. Now aged 92, Tompkins becomes an important whistleblower by exposing the secret projects he worked on in his newly released autobiography, Selected by Extraterrestrials: My life in the top secret world of UFOs, think-tanks and Nordic secretaries.

Tompkins supports his claims with numerous documents including two designs he completed for space battle cruisers and space carriers that would decades later become the backbone of U.S. Navy Space Battle Groups.

Tompkins was given the job at the “Advanced Design” Douglas think tank, due to exceptional skills he exhibited in his war time service with Navy Intelligence from 1942-1945. Significantly, during his service at San Diego’s Naval Air Station, Tompkins directly participated in intelligence debriefings of Navy agents embedded within Nazi Germany’s most secret aerospace facilities during and immediately after World War II.

In his autobiography, Tompkins describes what the Navy spies had found:

The Navy agents (spies) in Germany discovered what all those “out of this world” aliens gave Hitler: UFOs, antigravity propulsion, beam weapons, extended life and plenty of mind-controlled willing girls programs. The reptilians made a deal with the Third Reich SS giving them this big box full of toys in exchange for letting Hitler enslave the rest of the planet. (pp. 70-71)

Over his four years with Navy Intelligence, Tompkins helped in the covert distribution of data from Nazi Germany’s two distinct secret space programs to Douglas Aircraft Company, along with other select aerospace companies and universities that had the scientific expertise to understand what the Nazis were doing.

When Tompkins joined Douglas Aircraft Company in 1950, it had already formed its Advanced Design think tank to design antigravity space craft. Once Tompkins moved over to Advanced Design in 1951, he was specifically tasked to design a variety of antigravity space vehicles, using his knowledge of Naval Intelligence gathered from Nazi Germany and his own talent for technical detailing.

Tompkins describes his two superiors at the Advanced Design Think Tank:

I reported directly to Dr [Wolfgang] Klemperer and Elmer Wheaton, the V.P. of engineering who wore two hats. He was V.P. of all the classified missile and space-systems programs. Unknown to 99.9%, Wheaton was V.P. of the above top secret compartmentalized extraterrestrial threats research Think Tank, too, sometimes referred to as Advanced Design. (p. 48)

Further, Tompkins relates the covert way in which the Navy went about making design requests to Advanced Design:

After receiving our unsolicited proposal for star ships [the Navy put out a sole source request for a proposal for exploratory star mission vehicles…]. Actually we didn’t even get an RFP (Request for Proposal); it was just slipped in under the floor door to our Advanced Design…. on the envelope it only said: “To Whom it may concern.” [p. 68]

Tompkins says that he approached his work by studying the mission parameters for the requested future space battle groups. He then was able to come up with designs that would allow the Navy to fulfill its future space missions.

Creating the configuration of a Naval Space Battle Group comprising kilometer-long vehicles from the mission parameters he had been given, Tompkins explains:

I redefined a standard Naval space battle group complement, stating that it would consist of one 2.5 kilometer spacecraft carrier, with a two-star on board as flag, three to four 1.4k heavy space cruisers, four to five 1k space destroyers, two 2k space landing assault ships for drop missions, two 2k space logistic support ships, and two 2k space personal transports. (p. 80)

Tompkins writes about two Navy star ship designs completed at the Douglas think tank, and includes the documents in his autobiography:

The figures following show two original drawings of Naval spacecraft carriers and battle cruisers that were visualized in Advanced Design, in 1954, from dozens of alternate configurations. Scale modes of these kilometer-long craft were subsequently made. (p. 67)

The first design is for the 1.4 km battle cruiser. Read more

Stargate SG-1: Soft Disclosure according to Secret Space Program Whistleblower

Written by Dr Michael Salla on September 16, 2015. Posted in Secret Space Programs

Stargate more science than fiction

Could the highly popular television series Stargate SG-1 (aired 1997 to 2007) be more science than fiction? Secret space program whistleblower Corey Goode claims it is based on real-life advanced travel technologies found all over the planet, solar system and galaxy.

In the latest Cosmic Disclosure episode, “Portals: The Cosmic Web”, Goode responds to questions posed by the host, David Wilcock, about various kinds of travel technologies used by ancient societies and extraterrestrial civilizations. Goode described the difference between various “portal” or “wormhole” technologies that either naturally occurred, or were built by a highly advanced ancient civilization not known even to current extraterrestrial visitors to Earth. This is virtually the same scenario depicted in the Stargate SG-1 series, where stargates are described as being built by a race of beings called “the Ancients.”

Goode referred to technologies depicted in the Stargate SG-1 as a fairly accurate illustration of how ring-shaped ancient portals or “stargates” actually look and work. He said that the navigation system is similar to how the internet operates whereby numerical sequences are assigned for individual computers, networks, ISPs and countries. This is the basis for the IP (Internet Protocol) numbers, which are the backbone for navigating the World Wide Web. You can check the IP address of the device you are using to read this article here.

Similarly, Goode says that a series of numerical coordinates based on hyperdimensional mathematics designate different galaxies, solar systems, planets, etc., which becomes the address for a particular portal. This has similarities with the coordinate navigation system depicted in the original Stargate movie (1994) that was then incorporated into the Stargate SG-1 television series.

Goode is not alone in describing such a numerical address system. Wilcock pointed out that another secret space program whistleblower, Henry Deacon (aka Arthur Neumann), also claims that this is the navigation method used for portal travel. Deacon began publicly disclosing his information regarding portals/stargates back in a 2006 interview on Project Camelot. Read more

Well, you can’t blame them for trying, can you?

Earlier today the grandiloquently named “Future of Life Institute” (FLI) announced an open letter on the subject of ‘autonomous weapons.’ In case you’re not keeping up with artificial intelligence research, that means weapons that seek and engage targets all by themselves. While this sounds fanciful to the uninformed, it is in fact a dystopian nightmare that, thanks to startling innovations in robotics and artificial intelligence by various DARPA-connected research projects, is fast becoming a reality. Heck, people are already customizing their own multirotor drones to fire handguns; just slap some AI on that and call it Skynet.

Indeed, as anyone who has seen Robocop, Terminator, Bladerunner or a billion other sci-fi fantasies will know, gun-wielding, self-directed robots are not to be hailed as just another rung on the ladder of technical progress. But for those who are still confused on this matter, the FLI open letter helpfully elaborates: “Autonomous weapons are ideal for tasks such as assassinations, destabilizing nations, subduing populations and selectively killing a particular ethnic group.” In other words, instead of “autonomous weapons” we might get the point across more clearly if we just call them for what they are: soulless killing machines. (But then we might risk confusing them with the psychopaths at the RAND Corporation or the psychopaths on the Joint Chiefs of Staff or the psychopaths in the CIA or the psychopaths in the White House…)

In order to confront this pending apocalypse, the fearless men and women at the FLI have bravely stepped up to the plate and…written a polite letter to ask governments to think twice before developing these really effective, well-nigh unstoppable super weapons (pretty please). Well, as I say, you can’t blame them for trying, can you?

Well, yes. Actually you can. Not only is the letter a futile attempt to stop the psychopaths in charge from developing a better killing implement, it is a deliberate whitewashing of the problem.

According to FLI, the idea isn’t scary in and of itself, it isn’t scary because of the documented history of the warmongering politicians in the US and the other NATO countries, it isn’t scary because governments murdering their own citizens was the leading cause of unnatural death in the 20th century. No, it’s scary because “It will only be a matter of time until [autonomous weapons] appear on the black market and in the hands of terrorists, dictators wishing to better control their populace, warlords wishing to perpetrate ethnic cleansing, etc.” If you thought the hysteria over Iran’s nuclear non-weapons program was off the charts, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Just wait till the neo-neocons get to claim that Assad or Putin or the enemy of the week is developing autonomous weapons!

singularityIn fact, the FLI doesn’t want to stop the deployment of AI on the battlefield at all. Quite the contrary. “There are many ways in which AI can make battlefields safer for humans” the letter says before adding that “AI has great potential to benefit humanity in many ways, and that the goal of the field should be to do so.” In fact, they’ve helpfully drafted a list of research priorities for study into the field of AI on the assumption that AI will be woven into the fabric of our society in the near future, from driverless cars and robots in the workforce to, yes, autonomous weapons.

So who is FLI and who signed this open letter. Oh, just Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, Nick Bostrom and a host of Silicon Valley royalty and academic bigwigs. Naturally the letter is being plastered all over the media this week in what seems suspiciously like an advertising campaign for the machine takeover, with Bill Gates and Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk having already broached the subject in the past year, as well as the Channel Four drama Humans and a whole host of other cultural programming coming along to subtly indoctrinate us that this robot-dominated future is an inevitability. This includes extensive coverage of this topic in the MSM, including copious reports in outlets like The Guardian telling us how AI is going to merge with the “Internet of Things.” But don’t worry; it’s mostly harmless.

…or so they want us to believe. Of course what they don’t want to talk about in great detail is the nightmare vision of the technocractic agenda that these technologies (or their forerunners) are enabling and the transhumanist nightmare that this is ultimately leading us toward. That conversation is reserved for proponents of the Singularity like Ray Kurzweil and any attempts to point out the obvious problems with this idea are poo-pooed as “conspiracy theory.”

singularity2And so we have suspect organizations like the “Future of Life Institute” trying to steer the conversation on AI into how we can safely integrate these potentially killer robots into our future society even as the Hollywood programmers go overboard in steeping us in the idea. Meanwhile, those of us in the reality-based community get to watch this grand uncontrolled experiment with the future of our world unfold like the genetic engineering experiment and the geoengineering experiment.

What can be done about this AI / transhumanist / technocratic agenda? Is it possible to be derailed? Contained? Stopped altogether? How? Corbett Report members are invited to log in and leave their thoughts in the comment section below.

Joseph P Farrell – mDNA INTERCELLULAR TRANSFER DEMONSTRATED IN NEW ZEALAND, AND A REALLY HIGH OCTANE SPECULATION….

joseph-p-farrell-2010-3

January 15, 2015
This article was shared by Ms. M.W., and I have to admit, when I first read it, I was almost overwhelmed by all sorts of really high octane speculations. But we’ll get to those in a moment. First, the article itself, and its rather sensational news, news that, again, shows how quickly a scientific “fact” can be overturned, in this case, the fact that mitochondrial DNA – the DNA we all receive from our mothers, all the way back to the hypothesized “mitochondrial Eve” – does not transfer from cell to cell except during reproduction. In this case, scientists in New Zealand have made an important – perhaps even paradigm shifting – discovery, namely, that mDNA can transfer from cell to cell outside of reproduction:

A Mitochondrial DNA Transplant Could Help Treat Hundreds Of Diseases

O.K., so what’s so significant about that? What possible high octane, way-out-there-in-geosynchronous-orbit speculation could possibly come of this?

Well, consider these paragraphs closely:

“Prior to the new study, scientists thought these genes stayed within cells, except during reproduction.

“But experiments conducted by a team led by professor Mike Berridge from the Malaghan Institute have shown this isn’t the case. As reported in the NZH:

‘A Kiwi-led research team demonstrated the movement of mitochondrial DNA between cells in an animal tumour. After mitochondrial DNA was removed from breast cancers and melanomas in mice, replacement mitochondrial DNA naturally shifted from surrounding normal tissue. After adopting the new DNA, the cancer cells went on to form tumours that spread to other parts of the body.

‘[…] It’s a leap in the science of cellular biology, and could boost the understanding of human diseases other than cancer, since defective mitochondrial DNA accounts for about 200 diseases and is implicated in many more.’

“As noted by Berridge in a release, “This appears to be a basic physiological mechanism in the body that no one has seen before because they lacked the exploratory tools. Whether this new phenomenon is important in tumour formation is still unclear, but we are interested in pursuing the research to see if the transfer occurs more widely in the body. Preliminary evidence indicates it may be a common occurrence in the brain.”(Italicized and bold emphases added)

Most readers here will know that I’ve written a number of books on the subject of Mr. Richard Dolan’s concept of a “breakaway civilization,” and the idea that (1) a vast hidden system of finance was erected to (2) provide a steady source of funding for black research projects, and that I have included, as a component of such research, not only that there may well be an entirely hidden, or off-the-books physics, as exemplified in the curious statements of the late Ben Rich, director of Lockheed-Martin’s “skunk works,” but also an off the books genetics and medical science. Indeed, most readers of this website are already probably familiar with the stories that indicate the latter, as we’re all more or less familiar with the black projects research stories that occasionally leak concerning this or that aspect of bio-weapons research.

And it’s here, precisely, that my really out there high octane speculation comes in. Now brace yourself. Most researchers into the JFK assassination will eventually come across three names, two of which maintained that the CIA had, during the late 1950s and 1960s, successfully “weaponized cancer,” i.e., had discovered that cancer could be induced, and indeed, given to people, an assertion that ultimately implies just the sort of inter-cellular transmission mechanism as is being suggested by the New Zealand discoveries. The two names are, of course, David Ferrie, the strange character sought out by Jim Garrison during his investigation into the Kennedy assassination, and Jack Ruby, who insisted he had been given the cancer that was killing him before the deal that he had worked out with Dallas DA could come into effect. In Ferrie’s case, as I outlined in my book LBJ and the Conspiracy to Kill Kennedy, Garrison discovered that Ferrie was indeed involved in some sort of obscure cancer research with New Orleans oncologist Dr Mary Sherman, the third player in this strange high octane speculation and story. Dr Sherman, in turn, was murdered under such extraordinarily bizarre circumstances – death by particle beam quite literally – was also involved in research specifically related to the transmission mechanisms, and her boss was none other than the then-internationally renowned cancer researcher, physician, and head of the American Cancer Society, Dr. Alton Ochsner, who himself apparently had some connection to the CIA’s “war with cancer” projects.

Oddly enough, Dr. Sherman was an advocate of the viral theory of cancer. Why is that relevant here, since we’re dealing, in the New Zealand find, with mDNA and very small “nanotubes” connecting cells as the inter-cellular transmission mechanism. Well, for one thing, viruses are incredibly small and can only be viewed under an electron microscope, a process which kills them, and prohibits observation of them while they’re alive. But as the New Zealand article and discovery itself explicitly states, no one has seen this transmission mechanism, which “appears to be a basic physiological process” precisely because “they lacked the exploratory tools” to do so.

Now, all of this implies that the CIA-sponsored “cancer weaponization” studies, which, if one is to believe David Ferrie and Jack Ruby, not to mention the cancer-inducement findings of Garrison’s JFK investigation, were entirely successful, suggests to my mind that some black technology perhaps existed that enabled it to observe the transmission mechanism, and to reproduce it. A black technology enabling observation of things in their living states down to a very small – perhaps even viral – scale.

Royal Raymond Rife, anyone?

See you on the flip side…

Brain decoder can eavesdrop on your inner voice

2014 10 31

From: New Scientist

As you read this, your neurons are firing – that brain activity can now be decoded to reveal the silent words in your head

TALKING to yourself used to be a strictly private pastime. That’s no longer the case – researchers have eavesdropped on our internal monologue for the first time. The achievement is a step towards helping people who cannot physically speak communicate with the outside world.

“If you’re reading text in a newspaper or a book, you hear a voice in your own head,” says Brian Pasley at the University of California, Berkeley. “We’re trying to decode the brain activity related to that voice to create a medical prosthesis that can allow someone who is paralysed or locked in to speak.”

When you hear someone speak, sound waves activate sensory neurons in your inner ear. These neurons pass information to areas of the brain where different aspects of the sound are extracted and interpreted as words.

In a previous study, Pasley and his colleagues recorded brain activity in people who already had electrodes implanted in their brain to treat epilepsy, while they listened to speech. The team found that certain neurons in the brain’s temporal lobe were only active in response to certain aspects of sound, such as a specific frequency. One set of neurons might only react to sound waves that had a frequency of 1000 hertz, for example, while another set only cares about those at 2000 hertz. Armed with this knowledge, the team built an algorithm that could decode the words heard based on neural activity aloneMovie Camera . (PLoS Biology, doi.org/fzv269)

The team hypothesised that hearing speech and thinking to oneself might spark some of the same neural signatures in the brain. They supposed that an algorithm trained to identify speech heard out loud might also be able to identify words that are thought.

Mind-reading

To test the idea, they recorded brain activity in another seven people undergoing epilepsy surgery, while they looked at a screen that displayed text from either the Gettysburg Address, John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address or the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty.

Each participant was asked to read the text aloud, read it silently in their head and then do nothing. While they read the text out loud, the team worked out which neurons were reacting to what aspects of speech and generated a personalised decoder to interpret this information. The decoder was used to create a spectrogram – a visual representation of the different frequencies of sound waves heard over time. As each frequency correlates to specific sounds in each word spoken, the spectrogram can be used to recreate what had been said. They then applied the decoder to the brain activity that occurred while the participants read the passages silently to themselves (see diagram ).

Despite the neural activity from imagined or actual speech differing slightly, the decoder was able to reconstruct which words several of the volunteers were thinking, using neural activity alone (Frontiers in Neuroengineering, doi.org/whb ).

The algorithm isn’t perfect, says Stephanie Martin, who worked on the study with Pasley. “We got significant results but it’s not good enough yet to build a device.”

In practice, if the decoder is to be used by people who are unable to speak it would have to be trained on what they hear rather than their own speech. “We don’t think it would be an issue to train the decoder on heard speech because they share overlapping brain areas,” says Martin.

The team is now fine-tuning their algorithms, by looking at the neural activity associated with speaking rate and different pronunciations of the same word, for example. “The bar is very high,” says Pasley. “Its preliminary data, and we’re still working on making it better.”

The team have also turned their hand to predicting what songs a person is listening to by playing lots of Pink Floyd to volunteers, and then working out which neurons respond to what aspects of the music. “Sound is sound,” says Pasley. “It all helps us understand different aspects of how the brain processes it.”

“Ultimately, if we understand covert speech well enough, we’ll be able to create a medical prosthesis that could help someone who is paralysed, or locked in and can’t speak,” he says.

Several other researchers are also investigating ways to read the human mind. Some can tell what pictures a person is looking at, others have worked out what neural activity represents certain concepts in the brain, and one team has even produced crude reproductions of movie clips that someone is watching just by analysing their brain activity. So is it possible to put it all together to create one multisensory mind-reading device?

In theory, yes, says Martin, but it would be extraordinarily complicated. She says you would need a huge amount of data for each thing you are trying to predict. “It would be really interesting to look into. It would allow us to predict what people are doing or thinking,” she says. “But we need individual decoders that work really well before combining different senses.”
